Glad you enjoyed the rifle! I'm the guy who designed it. Originally I had also explored making it in .275 Rigby, .30-06 and 6.5x54 MS, but there was the problem of extraction for a rimless case. Would have had to radically redesign the action, which would have driven up cost considerably. The Courteney is also an attempt to revive the wonderful .303. All the best, TL
You made an excellent job of it, really nice piece and shoots very well for a 303,. Re rimmed V rimless, what about 7x57R or 6.5x57R, that would get round the extractor problem, if you're making one in either of those two, let me know.
@@GunMartTV Thanks for the reply! I would have loved to do that, but 1) the market for these calibers is quite small and specialized in the US, and 2) even as a special project (say, as an exclusive for Dealer John Doe), the minimum order quantity (MOQ) to make it financially worthwhile and keep price reasonable would have been too high. Even .303 took about 2 years to plan, since Uberti had never chambered that cartridge before, and MOQ was fairly high. So glad the rifle is getting kudos, though! Thank you again for showcasing it!
30 40 krag wide selection of bullets 303 brit few, o well I had to have one anyway I love nice SS beautiful gun having trouble finding scope rings with enough eye relief
There are few 303 rifle platforms that could be considered ambidextrous. The Ruger No.1 303 limited run. Very old Winchester 1895 303 rifles. And the custom Hagn falling block action . And now the Uberti. The 303 Br. is an absolute dream to shoot recoil wise , so matches up well to the light and handy 1885 rifle platform . It carries more than enough power to harvest deer to moose. It would surprise few hunters in Canada if you listed the 303 as having harvested more moose here than any other cartridge . Well done Uberti.
I am less well off financially than most people and am a huge fan of single shot rifles, most brands and models can be bought new for very cheap and while 1885 copies are in a different price class than most others I have the pleasure of owning the 30 inch 45-70 uberti 1885 ..it's my prized possession..I'm jealous!!! I would love to get a Courtney 303 model!!!!!
I think the accuracy of the .303 is equivalent to the 30-40 krag with a similar type case. On game both rounds will drop our American elk. Great review!
Hi David. How are you getting on with your Courtney?. I have one on order and have been waiting over a year now for it. How does it shoot and what loads are you using?.
Many thanks foe the video. How well does it shoot with .311 diameter bullets. I read another review on this rifle which said it only shot well with .312 diameter?. Which as you know are hard to find.
Very good video. I've purchased a Courteney Stalking Rifle in .303 British. I plan on taking it Black Bear hunting in Manitoba, next spring, using 180 grain rounds. I have mounted a 30mm 1-6 Power scope, which gives me plenty of light and clears the hammer nicely.
I just got back from the range and sighting in my Courteney. Wow, Am I impressed. I shot 180 Grain PPU ammunition and was getting Sub MOA groups, with a rest....No Lead Sled.
More than enough gun, your set up sounds ideal, I still have my test rifle and will remove the Pecar Champion scope and fit a 1-6x24, which as you say is probably a near perfect pairing.
Hi. Can I ask you what make if scope did you fit to this rifle? and also what scope rings did you fit. Also were they high, medium or low rings. Many thanks
@@kris308100 Burris 1-6x30. I used extended rings to bring it back enough. I think they were two piece medium wearver offset. I also added a Tourbon, leather cheek riser
I was considering one of these, when I had a spare .303 slot. However, we need some more lead free .311/.312 bullet options for it to be a valid long term rifle. Fox are considering making some mind.....
And there's the rub, the lack of popularity of the old 303 British would seem to mitigate against the development of non-lead bullets. But I might give Fox a ring and see what they might be doing. I'm hoping to take it hunting with my 150-grain load, as the lead ban if there is a total one, is yet to be confirmed, although I reckon it will happen.

If one is brought out in a 9.3x74r I'll be the first one to order it! Or 450/400 Nitro!
@@locarnese5598 how about 9.3x74r, a classic African hunting cartridge!

Beautiful rifle, I bought one immediately.

A really beautiful gun. Hopefully I can get one some day. I'd like to see it in 7x57mm or 6.5 Swede but in lieu of those the .303 will do just fine.

Such a comprehensive review! Thank you

Beautiful rifle, looks more classical without the scope though. Just saying.
Che bello!

Don‘t mount a scope on this classic rifle
