    Thank you very much for an amazing video 🙏🏼! I was looking for days almost for weeks for a QD, actually for two of them. One as a synthetic QD and another on Carnauba base! And after your video I know now what I will buy.. so during the winter when I just use a wet coat, I will use the Infinity Wax Rapid and in the summer, when I use Carnauba as a main base, I will use the Gyeon QD which is on Carnauba base.. as for both QD a glossy and shiny finish is important for me as I’m driving a uni means non-metallic black car 😉. So once again, thanks for a great detailed video.. you have my respect 👍🏼😉

    The only one I have used is the Griot’s and it is very good. But the one I prefer over ceramic coatings is a homemade cocktail. I take 20 oz of Distilled water + 1 oz of Wolfgang Uber + 2 oz of Gyeon Cure. I apply this formula with a Solo pump sprayer as a drying aid after blowing off 90% of the water. My cocktail provides incredible slickness and gloss, and I apply it after every maintenance wash. On my non-coated vehicles, Bead Maker has basically replaced detail sprays used in my drying process.

      it did very well James. Remember BH QD was the one I recomended from over 75 products previously. It scooped up more points than BH and was the highest gloss reader in the test. Its also slick and smooth.. only 2 reasons not to use it as far as I can see, isnt cheap, and is not that hydrophobic though compared to RDS and Elixir. So it depends what your after really.

    This was a great test!
    These products are definately aimed at the entry level enthusiast but us seasoned guys know that you make your own QD out of your favorite RW because most of them have some type of protection and/gloss enhancer in them, just sayin'.
    That said, Griot's Garage Best of Show is my favorite here. I've been using their products since 2005 and have been very happy with their performance but more importantly their customer service, its second to none! I'd like to invite you John to try their brand new Brillant Shine rinseless wash. This product does one thing...CLEANS, no protection and for those with a coated car it's very important what you use to wash with. The only other product I've used that is a pure cleaner is McKee's N914, an outstanding product as well. Griot's Garage doesn't rush a product out to join the herd but it does make it to market rest assured it's the best (IMO).
    Keep up the great vids John, your one of our favorites across the pond🇺🇸

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 років тому +2

      I would say these products are aim at pro or enthusiast. you will see a lot of pro's packing gyeon and carpro because they have strong reputations for products, very good accredited reputations, respected in the pro scene, yes not cheap though some guys want cheaper chems that what these brands offer. You will find a lot of pros will like BH because you can mix up probably 4-5 litres from this bottle and it will work great. griots I think in the UK without the gallon offering perhaps gonna be more for guys at home. infinity wax I think sell a lot of their product to the trade because their trade discount is large and they do free delivery, their trade prices are very strong.

    • @klasseact6663
      @klasseact6663 5 років тому

      @@ForensicDetailing I misspoke here when I said entry level. Pre-made products are ready to use but once you know how to make stuff you'll never buy that stuff again. Example being CarPro Ech2o, what CAN'T it do!
      I agree with you John about the gallon sizes for sure.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 років тому +1

      yer I think like if you look at value and you take something like Ech2o that sort of product makes sense financially doesnt it. because you take the product and you mix it down like 20 times and make a massive amount of product. If I was in the trade then you really would go for something like that. Its always the way though klasse. its like the same with APC and cleaner concentrates etc.. generally trade you go for higher concentration products. retail goes more like ready to use. I understand what you mean now yer its a fair point.

    I always go over my car with carpro reload every week after a wash , I just love the stuff, not a QD as such, but it adds a rich darkness to my interlagos blue paint, wicked beading and has very light wash marring filling ability too.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 років тому +3

      I can understand that. simple going over the car with reload make it look good and the repellency is really impressive on application. I think though its got decent durability and Im just not sure you need to be laying down that sort of thing in every wash.. put it this way. I would try elixir because it will give you the same hit. Just wish the price point of elixir was a bit lower, its knocking on the door of reload price tag and you can knock reload down a bit I guess. dunno. if its working for you keep doing it just thinking out loud.

    • @E92M3Guy
      @E92M3Guy 5 років тому +2

      @@ForensicDetailing yes I agree every week is a bit OTT , I started using gyeon essence shampoo a few weeks ago and I noticed when it was dryed off, the swirls and marring would be magnified on the very slick finish, to the point I was getting annoyed with it, but a quick wipe over with reload actually made a noticeable difference hiding the faint marring element, the bigger cob webbing and swirls were still present as you would expect and the gloss spectacular in the bright sunshine , the durability is academic to me as I do it every week any way. I'm in the process of splashing out on the 3 sizes of rupes long throw polishers ( bit late to the party i know ! ) for my 51st birthday to sort it out, had my old school makita and porter cable 7424 over 12 years from the detailing world early days.

    Difficult to measure, but my primary use for detail sprays is as a drying aid. Are there one of those tested you would or wouldn't use, or do you have a favorite for that usage? I usually use Optimum detailer. Further, in that usage, would a detailer that is very slick affect the coat of wax that would follow for good application?

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 років тому

      Ive used them all that way. Id say with BH you want to knock it right down like 10:1 t use that way but its the most cost effective to use like that. but it will thin down the water, make drying the panel easier etc.. some guys wont like having to pack different concentrations though but not a major problem. can mix some down 1:2- 1:3 say for detail spray. And mix down 1:10 in another bottle for drying aid or clay lub etc..

    Great testing and review John.....question.....why do people actually want a QD? Considering there are spray sealants that are applied identically i just dont see the point. It provides a way to easily and safely remove light contamination (fingerprints, dust, pollen, and if you are careful, bird poo - let it soak before gently whiping off) without having to do a full wash/clean/wax. You also use them to "top up" the full wax coat you put on, after a wash. Whatever you want to remove, you want something that provides lubrication and will not dull or remove your wax/sealant, and that's where a QD comes in for me. Finally it can also be helpful after a wash to do a final drying inspection.

      best advice. none. Use up fukupika and BSD first. you wont beat BSD for protection, or lets say water behviour and durability of that. nothing will beat it if thats what your after. but if you want to try something different, based one what you said about protection the best fit would be elixir. moonlight is a different kettle of fish. thats like a proper durable baseline lightweight type ceramic that you would do full prep for (or top up another existing ceramic with potentially)

    Value is one of those things thats in the eye of the beholder.
    Some folks dont care about cost too much because they’re a weekend detailer, whereas the everyday detailer will care more about cost oer ounce. And Elixer can provide great value if you’re topping a ceramic coating.
    I think the value throws the final results off a bit cause its so subjective. For me, I dont really care about cost if it works great.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 років тому

      I think value though nick is the least subjective thing I can measure. say you were with me while we are doing this test. me and you would like debait things like ease of use, slickess etc.. we would be trying to work out certain performance things and it could be so subjective we could disagree. but when you start talking about hard figures of price, I think its less subjective. Gloss can be measured with gloss meter.
      Hydrophobics can be visually seen.

    • @ForensicDetailing

      relative value yes its subject isnt it basically to how much money you have, the difference in cost is quite irrelevant to lots of peeps, but ultimately the price is the price. I think you have to like compare price and peeps can see that info and decide if its relevent. A bit like all the criteria really. the biggest problem is the hydrophobicity arguement. will talk about this in another video soon. It is hard to like compare these products properly the more I do it the more I realise theres no right or wrong just a whole load of different personal requirements for each viewer.

      beadmaker is laying down a material over the surface which then goes onto harden over the course of say 4-8 hours or however long. Its not really a detail spray. I wouldnt spray beadmaker onto wet panels because Im wasting product, I wouldnt grab beadmaker if I had a smudge on the panel to tidy up. etc.. yer not from the rhopoint IQ though.. but BSD had good gloss on application with the old 60 deg meter. you cant compare that reading though with the data in this test. different test panel base gloss. also the values I gave here were the average for 20 deg and 60 deg readings taken from 2 different panels. and the 20 and 60 deg readings scale differently.. so like gyeon got like 91 GU average in this test. The BSD had a 82 gu gloss reading from 1 panel on a 60 deg reading only.
      the rhopoint though is a different animal to the old chinese one. I witness 4 GU varience on the old chinese ones in between calibrations, so I could never compare data from different calibration sets with the chinese one. also the chinese one forces calibration on startup, and shutdowns after 60 seconds if you dont use it. this caused me an absolute nightmare doing the tests. the calibration "plate" on the chinese one is a bit of black plastic. the tile on the rhopoint is like glass stone thing with a certificate signed independently to prove calibration plate has been measures properly.
      all the data I now collect with the rhopoint I am storing up to build a database of product performance going forward. This will allow me to compare products more accurately and provide better reviews. the analytics on the rhopoint also me to compare the data so much easier. I was writing them down as a backup in this test just in case something went wrong with the export I didnt want to loose the data. but I dont need to do that really now I know it works. I can export and analyze it on the laptop and compare average data very rapidly.

      so a QD's whole point is to remove light dust and finger prints? and no other functions?
      this is a subject matter we have covered on the channel guys. I could write a long reply but the answer is buried away in the videos. short answer is just no, those are 2 functions of QD (2 from a big long list of possible functions). The brands will have a vision for what their detail sprays are for, each customer will have a vision of what they want a detail spray to do. Theres no official detailing defintion guidebook. If a QD adds gloss then its a spray wax? no again thats a definition I dont recognise. For me a spray wax is a water or solvent based liquid emulsion thats backboned with a wax. Industry calls lots of products polish or wax that dont align with how I define products though.

      As "detailers" we are like Rabbits in the headlights a lot of the time. "Ooooooo look a nice new shiny bottle" its pretty important to have shelve upon shelve of loads of products for some. We've all done it. Take AG's new Polar Wash and Polar seal. Two new products that dont fill any gap in the market, but many will have ran straight out to Halfords and bought them. I have used AG Polar Blast at the hand wash stage and Polar Seal is really just a foam cannon version of Aquawax, they have even pretty much admitted that to me. BH Wheel Cleaner and BH Korrosol, virtually no difference in their abilities. I have Korrosol because, quite frankly, it is the best non acidic wheel cleaner I have ever used and I can use it as its designed as a fall out remover over the car. I use AG Aqua wax which I use as a QD as well as the drying aid its sold as. I used to use Gunk for all my de-greasing needs years ago, now its BH Surfex, because again its not just a de-greaser but a very flexible APC. the key is using 2 cloths. if you try and spread and buff with just one the cloth picks up a lot of product and you can sort of drag that product around. so I have one cloth that will get like wetter with product but ill use that around the whole car to spread after its sprayed. then I have like a pile or 3-4 dry ones that ill pick the product up with. this pretty much sorts out any problems with streaky products. but I know what you mean marconorth, some peeps might just find other products are easier to work with and you can just use like one cloth for the whole car and its less important that its bone dry secondary cloth type thing. BOS I think might be the best in the test with regards to what your talking about. It is cloudy and mirky if you lay out to much. But like when your buffing it back it starts like vaping and going clear. try BOS if like how it is to use is a priority. Inf wax though is pretty easy as well so if you want more protection or beading from a detail spray thats a good choice,.

      I think the winner of this shoot out will fit the bill nicely as the best all rounder.
