It’s absurd. A blood test for my dog cost me 400 dollars. Who the hell can afford costs like that? That was just the blood test and then 200 for the appointment only not anything else. Almost 1000 for my dog who had a stomach ache
I saw a dog get hit by a car. I picked the dog up and took it to a vet. I don't own a pet so I was shocked when they told me that they will not even look at the dog unless I paid $2000 up front. They sent the dog to a shelter where I got a text message saying it didn't make it. I really feel like they put the dog down. I realized that pets have little to no chance if they should become sick or injured, to survive.
It use to not be like this with vets, you could take your dog in and yes your spending money, but for only whats needed such as meds. Now it's a $70 to $80 charge to even walk through their precious doors. Can't get out under $300 for basics! $60 for antibiotics and I end up just getting prescription at Walgreens for same antibiotics for $22. Last time I was at the vet this year, which has been a lot, I finally was like this is one reason so many animals end up in shelter's because people feel hopeless, and of backyard breeding is another shelter influx. The Vets just don't care anymore, it's all about price gouging!
Many thanks to those who try to help people keep their pets, however euthanasia also means that your beloved pet won't get adopted by a neglectful, abusive person or family. In other words, no suffering.
Here's what really P*SSES me off. A lot of shelters and rescues will force the owners to surrender their pets and then the shelters or rescues PAY FOR THE TREATMENT and put the animal up for adoption. The ANIMALS ALREADY HAD FAMILIES THAT LOVED THEM!! So the animals sit in the shelters or in boarding racking up more bills, costing the shelters or rescues WAY more money then it would have been if they just would have helped the owners with the treatment costs in the first place!! A question to rescues. Why can't you post urgent donations needed for Xx family trying to save their dog! Donations can be sent to Ridiculous Corporation for the Fleecing of Loving Pet owners, in care of Abouttodieifnotsurrendered!! Why stress the already stressed out animals by removing them from their homes? Why torment the pet owners TRYING to get help for their animals? The shelters are struggling, rescues are struggling animals are being shuffled from Loving owners to kennels at shelters and rescues, farmed out to fosters to be sent off again to more strangers if they get lucky and get adopted. Why? Why? A dog in foster care is SUPPORTED BY THE RESCUE! So rescues and shelters ARE WILLING TO PAY ALL THE COSTS as long as THE OWNERS SURRENDER THEM?! WHAT am I missing?!?! So now the shelters and rescues are FULL of animals that had loving homes, leaving no room for the abused or abandoned animals THAT DON'T HAVE LOVING HOMES! WHY?!?! There is literally a rescue that pays THOUSANDS of dollars MONTHLY to BOARD ANIMALS they took in but have no where to put them. THOUSANDS! None of this makes any sense! None of it!!
ua-cam.com/video/ZQT-4vUP3zs/v-deo.htmlsi=6jKtLs84YLwkeiFz This is video includes most of the infamous LIVE that was quickly deleted. I believe the first 20 minutes are missing. This part contains many confessions, some of which include, the fact that she views the interest on rescue savings as "free money". She admits to having unrestricted $430K savings that she is keeping to do something "special with". Listen closely. You will see she even contradicts herself in the same video. Judge for yourself and compare this to the explanations she subsequently posted and deleted, many of which you can find on the Reddit post. I wonder if they help owners or force them to surrender?!
Ain't that the truth! My Vet charged me $462 to send off a cyststocopy of my dog's urine to a university because he doesn't have a spinner to separate the specimen. It was inconclusive! I spent over $1,000 to find that no one knows why he had blood in his urine! I think it was stress. He's very intuned to me and I was extremely stressed out at the time. Poor dude. 😢 Simparica costs me $700! I have 3 pups and each box is equivalent to $100. There is 6 in a box. Two month supply for me. I can't wing it when it comes to my pups' health. If they contracted heartworm... it's curtains for them. I have to bite the bullet and give up something for myself. They mean the world to me as they do to most pet owners. ❤❤❤
There is a shortage of veterinarians too. A lot of them with private practices have retired. Now we have these major corps owning vet hospitals/clinics and charge an arm and leg.
This is terrifying. My animals are my family. How is anyone supposed to take care of them? No one can afford costs like this. I live in fear every day that God forbid something happens. I would rather die than my babies 😭💔
Greed is good, according to capitalism. That's how you become a success. It's sick, but we keep supporting more tax cuts for the rich so that they will "create jobs".
Veterinary Secrets on youtube.....he was basically forced out of providing affordable vet care.....advocated for alternative practices? So moved to online care.....
Its happening here in North Carolina. I had to put my service dog down after he got hurt because I couldnt afford the vet bills. I miss him dearly. One of the many, Hardest choice of my life
The main issue is payment. Most animal clinics demand 50% of payment up front. If you have a $5000 vet bill and half is demanded, who has that kind of money laying around?
I've adopted my dog at 6 weeks old from the shelter he's now seven years old I take very good care of him I give him love every day sadly I'm poor and would not be able to take him to the vet I'm able to afford his yearly vaccinations that's about it
And most of them require payment on the spot so you are forced to pay or allow your animal to suffer, no payment plans are available. I had to put my baby down to untreatable kidney failure in July. The medication they gave her and the tools they used to diagnose the issue along with the cost of putting her to sleep cost about $600 and in February we had to have her teeth cleaned(was told is was medically necessary) and some potentially (POTENTIALLY!) pre-cancerous skin tumors removed which cost $800 ( only to lose her 5 months later) long story short, she has been gone 4 months and her bills won't be paid off until after Christmas. Thank goodness for credit cards.
There has to be an organization that donates funds that covers cost for veterinarians, like parks. There just has to be! There are a lot of animal lovers out there. Like Betty White. Or Jack Hana. He did big game animals probably, but there just has to be. Pamela Anderson? They must have organizations that donate to vets that cover for owners that don't have funds for meds and things like that.
Pet stores have monthly veterinarinans that come and do low cost vacinese and rabies shots and sell flea heartworm and tick meds. I get a baby syringe and give my dog pepto-bismol when she has a tummy ache. I give my dog nose breathes when she has a treachea choke.
Blame corporations who buy up vet clinics ,then jack up prices for corporate profit/greed

It's our own fault!! I traveled a lot with my pets overseas and most countries vet care is extremely inexpensive!!!

That's intimidation. They tried to make you feel responsible and guilty. Not right.
Doing the same thing to animals as they do to humans in this country.
Private equity firms are buying up vet offices all over the country and raising the rates and cost.
Demonic, money grubbing, private equity firms!!!!

Learn to do WITHOUT price gouging healthcare for humans AND animals
Strongly agreed about the cost!!!
The only reason I never had a dog is because my fear is that I could never afford the vet bills

Happens to humans too… you just don’t hear about it.
I’ve even had a doctor suggest it for my mother.
Where do you live that doctors suggest euthanizing humans?

Expect to pay 200 dollars just for an office visit fee

This saddened me so badly.
