I am hopeful for tomorrow that these tips will help. I have been making the exact mistakes as the guy in the video so will update you after tomorrow on the water in La Ventana

@@progressionsports The biggest and most helpful comment was turning down into the kite and not carving hard back upwind. I was too used to being on a surfboard and was continually making this mistake. I actually had some successful gybes today which felt remarkable. I also have to mention that I have been self taught for learning how to foil and after three days of flailing I bought part of you intro-to-foiling video and it was the thing that go me up on the foil. Thanks for all your help

Yeah for those first few session, riding broad out of the carve, with the kite high, makes getting used to toeside riding far easier. Glad you are starting to get them and you'll be surprised how quickly they will improve once you have done a few correctly. Just keep practising, and do lots of short runs, so you get lots of turning practice in.
And I'm glad to hear the other videos have helped - a lot of people have taught themselves to foil but never really understand what they are really doing. I hope the videos makes the theory of rising up and controlling the foil clearer and that can only help you become a better kitefoiler overall.
      Keep up the practice!

Enjoyed the style of the video thanks. Ive got a 535cm2 front wing and I think I'm going to struggle with gybes!

You can make it work but you will need more speed to stay on the foil throughout and your kite control will have to be more precise. No doubt bigger wings, which can be ridden at slower speeds make learning the techniques a lot easier and then its easier to transfer those skills to high-performance wings. I'd suggest focusing on practising off the foil to start with so you can go a bit slow and have more control, once you have the timing right, try the foiling version.

@5:20 this exactly doesn't work for me. in light winds i have to turn upwind asap in order not to catch up with kite and loose line-tension.
my problem is to point d board upwind quickly enough

Thanks!!! This helpfull. I find it difficult change feet in a gype. When do i change for example? Before turning in the turn or as a beginner afterwards? If you can show comen mistakes would be helpfull. Thanks.

    • @progressionsports
      @progressionsports  4 роки тому

Thing of the foot change as something completely separate from the carve part of the turn. So you can be riding heelside, carve round and ride toeside - there is no rush to then do a foot change back to heelside.
And the opposite is true, you can be riding heelside do a foot change so you are then riding toeside, then when ready you can carve round and end up back your heelside.
We do already cover alot of this in the First Gybes - Off the Foil video:
      www.progression.me/foiling-first-gybes
And I am editing the foiling gybes collection now - the Riding Toeside video is already out and I am working on the foiling foot changes video now and hope it have it out in next few weeks.

Hi thanks for the Video I have bought the Progression Foiling videos but the gybing video says coming soon how much longer will it be ? Just one other question how high should the kite be on the gybe 11 and 1 oclock because if I have it higher and go downwind I have to lean back to stop going under the kite.
I have a 1325cm WIng how fast should I go into the gybe I ssem to touchdown a lot

Hey RG. You do have the First Gybe - Off the Foil video as part of the Kitefoiling Volume 1 Collection which should get you started. The final Foiling Gybes video - Carving Turns - is close to being finish and will be released this month.
If you find you are going under the kite, this could be that you are sending the kite up to 12 was to quickly, many combined with carving slowly. You want to creep the kite up slowly from middle of the window, up to 12, carving the board and foil once the kite starts to turn. Don't let the kite go past 12 until the board is pointing directly downwind, then direct the kite fast and deep into the powerzone in the new direction as you carve the final part of the turn.
