      Technically where I live we had around 9-10 weeks off, but the school district is shifting their school days, so we only had 8 weeks this summer, and that was torture! I feel bad for you, doing 6 weeks. :(

    Growing up in England, I never went trick or treating, my mum always forgot Easter and she doesn't like clutter around the house so Christmas is rather bare XD

    • @102fuzzbuzz
      @102fuzzbuzz 9 років тому +4

      Wow u just wrote my childhood, never went trick or treating my mum and dad would pretend we wasn't in so no one would come to the door, Easter always consisted of one chocolate egg from my mama and Christmas last year my mum was debating to even put the tree up if it wasn't for me being there and saying I will do it then we would of even had that, she hates the mess it makes, so I sat there one evening while my parents were at work putting the tree up all by myself such fun times 😭 lol

    Eid is a Muslim holiday and its amazing. It comes after an entire month of fasting and what it is , is basically three days of adults or older people giving you money (like a lot of money ) and eating and drinking until you get a food coma . Stay out until 2-4 in the morning , wake up late , go to parties which serve an enormous amount of food. Dress up in new clothes (it's a big thing to buy eid clothes ) .

    Did he just say Christmas isn't as big as Thanksgiving in America? That's not true at all for my family and most Americans I know. Christmas is HUGE here. I know different holidays are more important in different families, though.

    • @hannahsded413
      @hannahsded413 9 років тому

      In the UK we normally get together with family and eat ourselves into a coma and watch Christmas TV all day

    • @kpredd13
      @kpredd13 9 років тому +2

      +gracieliz95 For some reason he has made himself the spokesperson for all of america, when he should just be saying 'a video of my experience vs someone else's' it aggravates me. Especially since not everyone in america even celebrates both of those holidays. Easter is biggest in my family, in others it is christmas, some it is hanukkah, etc. Christmas is much bigger here than Thanksgiving and you can judge based on the brakes we are given from school for them.

    • @cjlatinaj678
      @cjlatinaj678 9 років тому +1

      Yea, I was like WTF! Christmas is the most popular holiday here. I always see Christmas stuff on display at stores during the summer time. We celebrate Christmas way longer than Thanksgiving. Christmas is month long celebration while Thanksgiving is like a week long celebration.

    you forgot about bonfire night! it is a huge holiday in my family. also on new years eve in the UK we sing auld lang syne after midnight and cross arms (i don't think that you do that in the uk). Most people watch big Ben count down and watch fireworks from other country's around the world. In my family we all go to someones house go to celebrate it.

    • @imcrazysosueme
      @imcrazysosueme 9 років тому

      Marianne Ciric it's still fun for us, because we get to sit in the ground all day and be as noisy as we want and cheer our friends on. And we get our house cup on sports day, and we may not do anything to earn house points, but we get super hyped for the results

    Sorry, but why are you celebrating a document being signed with fireworks?

    In Scotland trick or treating is called guising where you had to perform a joke, song, or skit to earn your sweets.
    We have 2 weeks in October that used to be for young people to working in the fields called tattie howking but is now just another holiday.
    We also have Rabbie Burns' day on the 25th of January where we celebrate the poet Robert Burns by reciting his poems, wearing tartan, and eating haggis, neeps, and tatties.

    We have Sinterklaas in the Netherlands. It's about getting presents and Santa is actually based on Saint Nikolaas. We don't really celebrate Halloween but some people throw a house party for Halloween. We also celebrate the King's birthday. And a lot of fireworks are actually illegal here or at least illegal to fire(?) unless it's newyears or if it's a professional firework show.

    we get up early to watch the macy's thanksgiving day parade, the dog show that follows it.
    we eat food (we have 4 people in our family and we cook enough food to feed maybe 50 and we don't invite people over) until we all go into food comas, and then we watch christmas movies and put up our 10 foot tall tree with maybe 300 ornaments on it

      Yeah I'm from Louisiana and have been going to Mardi Gras since I was born and it's very very big holiday. Everyone gets off from school for a week or from Monday to Tuesday and we party like no tomorrow. We have parades from Friday night till Tuesday for the really big ones and maybe some small ones on Thursday. The floats throw beads, footballs (america), toy spears, stuffed animals, and coconuts on Tuesday if your really lucky. So many traditions that I don't even know where to start !

    St Andrews Day in Scotland. We eat haggis, neeps and tatties with Irn Bru and shortbread while usually wearing something blue. We also have Burns Night where we celebrate the very famous Scottish poet Robert Burns (you know the guy that wrote out Auld Lang Syne and all those Scots poems). Usually you have a Scottish themed supper and some Robert Burns poem reading competitions and recitals. They have that Beltane fire festival and the fringe festival in Edinburgh. Then you have Hogmanay which is pretty much a few days of Scottish partying and ceilidhs on run up to the New Years which is usually got a TV broadcast going on. That's all I can think of for now anyway.

    I’m in England. No one was forced to celebrate Valentine’s Day in my school.
    Most Schools in England don’t break up for summer till July and we go back a week or two into September.
    In England we call it both shrove Tuesday and pancake day. On calendars it will be written as shrove Tuesday but people will sometimes in a fun way say pancake day.

    Thank you for making these videos, it's really fascinating to see the cultural differences!
    In our city (In Russia) except for Valentine's day we have another kinda.. celebration day at 14-th of February. It's basically a day when our city won?.. the nazis?... Basically weve stopped nazi occupation of our city in ww2 at that day and now every 14-th of February not only we have "love post" where we send cards to each other, but we also watch horrible world war 2 films to comemmorate the victory... And I think that's quite horrible tbh, because we're little kids... So every 14-th of February I really didnt wanna go to school because I knew what was gonna happen x)

    At midnight on New Year's where I live in Ireland, people go outside the front door and bang saucepans with wooden spoons. No idea why. Also the school priest would go round to every class on the morning of Ash Wednesday and draw crosses on everyone's foreheads with ash, and everyone just wandered round with massive grey crosses on their heads all day!

    In England we have bonfire night or Guy Fawkes night which celebrates the fact that a guy tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament and failed. So we have a huge bonfire and fireworks. There is also sometimes a competition for kids to make the best ‘guy Fawkes’ and then the winning creation gets thrown on the bonfire

    • @frostfang1
      @frostfang1 8 років тому

      I agree, but I think the day is sometimes bigger, in the sense that you are more likely to spend the day feasting with extended family if you have it, than on Christmas.
      Christmas definitely had more hype to it, and you get more time off for it and new years, but I feel like people are more likely to keep the holiday between immediate family than Thanksgiving, but its different from family to family.
