Great exercise! I do it not only with funnels but all different orientations. Helps me a lot to improve my control! Thanks for sharing this great content, Richard!
Excellent informative video once again Rich. It’s good too be able too see you fly these manoeuvres on a sim for demo and for real at the club, you don’t often see that on UA-cam. Just in case, I already have a Unicorn 🦄 and it’s just had four Unicornettes if anybody wants one 😊
Try doing a square. So it goes past you flat and straight, and at the corner you do a sharpish 1/4 funnel and back into flat straight flight away from the flightline. It'll get you used to going past you from side to side, and also forcing you to control the amount of funnel in the corners.
Damn, another video that tickles me in a way => it makes alot of sense to speed some time on this. While it might not be smack 3d. Isn't crazy 3d but will sure turn some heads if they throw some of this out on the field
By freezing on the sticks, you must mean that part of the hurricane/funnel where my heli suddenly falls and i have no idea what happened. I stopped flying it at a certain position?
It comes down to varied practice. Just doing funnels doesn't make you work enough, so I would do lots of sideways flight where you constantly have to vary the angle. Sideways figure of 8, sideways square with a bit of bank at each corner, sideways stalls, sideways waltz, etc.
@@rchelicopter may I also ask what’s your mental model when flying side ways? Do you image a center point in one of the sides leading the direction and fly with that in mind?
No center point for me, just the nose at right-angles to the direction of flight. Initially it's very stepped to get it going in the right direction, so left cyclic, stop, forward, stop, oh back, stop. But if when you start doing entire flights where you fly around sideways and can do stalls, loops, rolls, etc. you can switch very easily between forward, backwards, sideways. It's never as natural as forwards, but it's close.
I recently started using neXt (after seeing Richard use it) and it is my favorite sim after previously using RF9.5 and AccuRC. neXt feels and looks the most realistic and has a bunch of great easy to use features.
what an excellent comment - tell you what, you go find me 5 videos where nick maxwell demonstrates manoeuvres that are modern in the last 5 years and I'll give you a unicorn!

Great informative video. Basic Funnels are kicking my butt lol.
Sounds like you're trying them already. You can even do the flat versions of the waltz. Forces you to fly it 👌
@rchelicopter Your the best bro. A different way of looking at it may help.
already doing the tail down waltz and although i didnt start it to get better i did it as it is super pleasing for a (non heli) spectator crowd :)

Great video!
Thanks Frank, very kind of you.
This is another one of your videos that has really helped my flying. Thank you!
Hells fire! excellent stuff Richard.
Much appreciated!
I always lose my circles with any maneuver when the Heli comes around close to me. Im having a hard time not looping out and continuing the circle.

Awesome, good to hear. Defo one of my fav moves.
More new stuff for me to learn (or at least try 😀), thanks Rich.
Oh wow this is awesome! I'll definitely be trying these as well, great video.
Great video, helping me control the funnels a lot more. I jumped on Next to practice this and I think thats you in the lobby :)
Defo not me, working at the moment. But nice to hear it's helping. I'm using the waltz to really nail those piro funnels down 👌
@@rchelicopter ahh ok. Another Richard on next then. Thanks again for these videos!

That's it, you got it!
Any tips on how to do funnel easier? I found difficult in understand the orientation to maintain the circle comparing to forward or backward circles.

@@rchelicopter thanks Richard. I shall just dive into sideways flying more than just funnels. Thanks.

Thanks for these videos. What sim are you using? I have AccuRC but I'm not getting on with it. Feels a bit to video gamey to me.
This is neXt. I switch between that and Heli-X. AccuRC is good, but no updates for 3 years and lack of multi-player stopped me using it.

Why not show us in real life lol. Like Nick Maxwell would.
Family life unfortunately. Check out the pilot proficiently program. All done IRL 👍
I love my wall of death pirouetting funnels. They are nuts fun. Sim or IRL. Hurricanes whatever. Pirouetting.
