    Some tricks I learned from a professional cleaner that had a company that cleaned rentals. Use a razor blade paint scraper held at a very low angle. With my toaster oven I just spray the inside with Simple Green, let it sit for a while, then use the paint scraper to get off the baked grease. After that I use a green pot scrubber to get to the areas that are difficult to reach with the scraper. Soaking time about 30-60 minutes, scrubbing time about 15 minutes and it's done. Green scrubby or SOS do a great job on the rack.

      I USUALLY USE SOS SOAP PADS, COMET, AND A STAINLESS STEEL PAD. I ALWAYS COVER THE CRUMB TRAY AND THE BOTTOM AND BACK OF THE CONVECTION OVEN WITH ALUMINUM FOIL HELD BY A SMALL PIECE OF MASKING TAPE, FOLDED ON ITSELF. EASIER CLEANUP.

    If that's a Breville like mine (and I think it is), they explicitly say in the manual NOT to cover the crumb tray with tinfoil due to fire hazard. Since the bottom try is removable and not a cooking surface, I just went ahead and used Easy Off on it. I put it in a rubbermaid container outside like you had and just coated the heck out of it, then I triple washed it. It came out great.

    I use heavy duty aluminum foil on my drip tray, held down with small round magnets on each corner.
    Also, Barkeeper's Friend comes in a powder which I think is much better than the liquid in some situations as you can control how thick you want it. I make a thick past with it that works better than vinegar and baking sode (IMHO) especially when you let it sit a good while

    • @madasahatter4489
      @madasahatter4489 3 роки тому +4

      Good call on the magnets! Thanks! We've lined our crumb tray ( and baking pan) with foil from the start but hadn't thought of magnets to hold it in place. Even at highest temps the foil doesn't doesn't cause overheating - We've checked temp with an infrared thermometer. Toaster oven pans and trays are not stainless steel and stain easily- Protecting them with foil eliminates baked on polymerized oil that simply can't be entirely cleaned off.

    Use the powder form of BKF and make a paste with water. Coat the tray in the paste and let it sit for a few days. I keep it moist with a spray bottle (not sure this is absolutely necessary though). You can then scrape off the goo, and/or scrub with a scotchbrite pad. Repeat if necessary. Are used to work for Sur La Table and I sold a lot of these Breville toaster ovens and I’ve had two in the past… The bottom tray is the worst thing to clean… Everyone complains about how bad it is… With that being said, whatever you do, do not put aluminum foil on the bottom of this pan! Why because the rep from breville told me that the kind of metal and the reflective action when the toaster oven isn’t use it doesn’t cook or bake properly… I’ve even asked the Breville rep. How do you clean it and the only thing she could tell me was, “you have to clean it every time you use it!"And I told her "...that is completely impractical. there has to be a better solution.?"she couldn’t answer me… So the only thing I can suggest is that you have to buy a whole new pan… But check with the Breville website on how to clean the Crumb pan.

    A trick to clean a cooking pan with a dishwasher soap pod: after boiling water in the pan, insert the pod, let it sit for awhile, then scrub off residue. Shiny clean.
    What if you boil the water, insert the pod, pour in the sink or pale, and let the bottom sheet sit in that for awhile; see if that works.

    Boiling the tray in water with Oxy-Clean for a half hr. or so should work, if you have something large enough to hold the tray. If you every have burnt / carbonized food in a steel pot, this method is a miracle worker. Zero elbow grease required . One scoop of Oxy-Clean will do the trick. How Oxy-Clean will work with aluminum though, I'm not sure. I guess you could boil some aluminum foil as an experiment.

    As a last ditch effort to chemically remove burnt food from a stainless steel surface, NaOH (sodium hydroxide, "lye") could work. Do not use on aluminum (NaOH dissolves it). That's a very harsh chemical though used to dissolve organic material, so use with high caution and protective gear meant to withstand it. Be careful with the cleanup, diluting heavily before pouring down the drain. Might be safer to just buy a new tray. Or do what someone else said and spend some careful time with a razer blade. Cheers!

    I just did the first clean up of my Wolfgang Pressure Oven (essentially a toaster oven on steroids with steam baking), after almost 5 years of weekly use, and just used about 1/3 can of some 5+ year old Easy-off (in 2 passes), and it was really a relatively quick (with 1/2 hour waits) and very effective cleaning, albeit a bit stinky from the fumes (it was the older version). Perhaps this would have worked for you.
