- It was time to 'Esther' my ST170 powered Mk1 Escort back on the dyno with tuning genius Chris Todd!
Since the last video I failed (again) to solve her oil leaks,
bodged her heater hoses to stop the coolant leaking into her cockpit
AND I fitted a set of my refurbished injectors from Bells Auto Services! (see links below)
BUT the real question is: did her new engine make more OR less power than the old one????

Great result on the dyno Marcus. I guessed very close to what it actually made . Chris has worked his magic again .It sounded so different once chris adjusted the exhaust cam timing . Good strong power mate 👍

Great outcome there bro. Thats the thing with fords the quality of parts can let you down often. I used to own a mark 1 escort auto 72 k reg. I do love them.
However my greatest love are the Peugeot 205 1.9 gti. I fitted a 306 gti6 engine with 40k miles on clock with a 5 speed gearbox for a better turn circle. With a rerouted oil breather, fitted a lightweight flywheel and I managed to get 181bhp which is 205 bhp per ton from a standard 167bhp engine. Which is pretty significant due to a few small mods. I also added uprated thinner engine oil so engine has less drag. Every little bit helps lol. My future plans are fast cams, throttle bodies n a few other little mods so I can get around 205 to 210 bhp. That will be more than enough for a street car.
Good luck Marcus in getting these leaks all sorted out. Its usually an ongoing job with these things and fords. I'll keep an eye out for your future work on your beautiful mk1 esscy.

Thanks mate! 👍 You'r totally right that I should run filters BUT Iv heard they can knock 10% off the power AND realistically I would need to get it re-mapped. Almost everyone I know never runs filters with DCOE carbs (even with super expensive built engines) so I think I'll just risk it seeing as Im only running a £300 Focus lump! 😃

1/4 mile you should see low to mid 13`s with that 182 nice figures that Marcus, my 2.2 pinto on 50`s made 192 with a standard ignition. did 1/4 in 13.7 i can feel your smile mate lol ;) now get the slipper in..
The last time I took Esther to Santa Pod (about 7 years ago when she was in primer) she did a 14.4 with a 145 bhp Pinto. She's quite a bit lighter now so Im hoping to just about get into the 13s. . . . . . Maybe somebody who can actually launch her properly would get a low 13! 😃
For the 90 bend you could get a scrap of copper pipe n fill it with sand then bend it

Spot on with the BHP, your idle probably sounds weird/lumpy now, coz you've swung the exhaust cam back, but will sound fine when being driven...keep them vids coming 😀

Great video mate..regarding your window, put a line of sealer (tiger seal) between the rubber, press the window back in, and leave it wound up for 24hrs..should be sweet after 👌

At least now your dealing with a car thats not got possible catastrophic engine issuse. This time last week you had white smoke and major oil dumps happening..
Really dont want to offer you any advice, cos you get more than enough already. so many problems with leaking sumps.
As your sump doesn’t have a lip to retain the gasket - have you tried sticking the gasket to the sump with “well seal” first, letting it dry and then use well seal on the block too ??
Also, I’ve had more success with cork gaskets as they are less likely to slide around and get squished when the bolts are tightened up.
Also, have you spoken to your precision engineering guy to ask if he can weld a lip to the inside and outside of the sump gasket mating face so that the gasket is retained in position when tightening- that would solve all your problems in one go ??

I always use hairspray to insert windows it lubes it to slip in the mount then sets like glue to hold it.

Always found that decent seals and Fords OEM the oil seals are double lipped , so better quality . Some of the cheaper after market ones are single lipped.
The Victor Reinz was soooo much better than the old one. 👍

Thanks for the advice! 👍 I did consider just fitting a spacer but I THINK the UJs are worn anyway so may as well fit a fresh prop made to the correct length. 👍

I wonder why you don't just rip out the heater matrix and associated extra weight? I mean, do you really need a heater when you're at the level of installing carbon panels for weight loss?
When you go on a night time cruise you need to keep warm and toastie otherwise it's pretty miserable shivering away.

The injectors do make quite a loud clicking noise. Iv read that this is normal?? . . . . but Iv also got a noisy cam follower which I need to sort out. 👍
