I took my 9-5 abroad (remote in the US at the time) by asking if I can change from a W2 to a contractor. Still doing the same work, but now I get to leave the US 😊 Doesn’t hurt to ask if you already have a wfh job in the US
@@firandcurly84 honestly, the journey is kinda funny. I work in Scheduling and Dispatch for a plumbing company. So basically I answer incoming calls, emails and chats, as well as outbound calls for new leads. I was in the process of trying out virtual assisting to get out of the US, and I had written up my resignation email but wanted to call my supervisor, the VP of our department, as a heads up before I sent it. We started chatting and she went to bat for me to HR, to change my status from W2 to independent contractor so that I could stay with the company. And they approved it! So now I’m working and slowly traveling at the moment. this reply is long (sorry) 😆 I also wrote an email to management to suggest reasons to let me be a contractor, such as they don’t have to pay benefits for me and tax reasons, as well as additional time zone needs for the call center depending where I am. You know HR and management wants to know what is in it for them 😉
@ I had a huge reply but it didn’t post. 😩 Let’s try again! I work in scheduling and dispatch for a plumbing company. Basically I take incoming and outgoing calls, emails and chats. I was in the process of quitting so that I can slow travel, but my supervisor went to bat for me and we were able to get my status approved from W2 to independent contractor so I could keep my job. I also wrote an email to management, stating the reasons my status change would be beneficial for them. They don’t have to pay benefits for me, additional time zone help depending where I am in the world, etc
The other thing people REALLY don’t understand about remote jobs is that just because you can work abroad in theory doesn’t mean your company policy or technical set up will allow you to do it. From what I’ve experienced, unless you’re a certain type of skilled consultant/contractor and are able to charge as a soloprenuer, most US based companies aren’t willing to take on the tax exposure themselves if they don’t already have a branch or arm in [insert country]. And if you’re thinking “Just get a VPN” you’re seriously underestimating corporate prowess.
This. I believe a lot of companies started closing loopholes "post-COVID." IF they approve an overseas setup, they're likely not offering this to brand new employees.
Im a mental health therapist and would love to provide this outside the US. I also provide virtual therapy and thinking to continue with US clients and abroad. Thank you because I would love to relocate out of the US ❤❤❤
Because of this community -I asked for fully remote from a company that is very traditional and they offered me hybrid So every so often I go off to my home away from home in Mexico.
I’m a certified industrial electrician, have a CNA license, and I am a senior business analyst for a government contractor. I also have a LLC that sells vintage clothing, home decor, and oddities. My wife is a tattoo artist. Do you think our skill sets will transfer abroad?

I have a remote job and working on getting approved to be a digital nomad at work as I work in marketing. However, I am also skilled in two other things you mentioned. I am a damn good cook (especially soul food) and am a make-up artist. I am interested in a business visa as I do not want to depend on my job. Hello!! I'm new to your channel and enjoy learning from you! I'm a retiree with a background in HROD. I'm seriously looking at moving to MX and would like to us ER my skills there (certified leadership coach, leadership workshops) and certified classroom management consultant. Any advice about cities (except Mexico City...too large) and how to get my process started. Gracias!!
@@starfire0225Exactly! I'm a retired teacher and currently working as a Nanny! But I am hoping to move to Montenegro or Albania. I don't need to work to move there. Just like to have options.
listen, currently working towards 2-3 certifications that definitely will help with landing a remote job while making great money. listen....i was already working on going BACK....but this election put the boosters on my feet lol buy
Businesses to open - beauty supply stores. I saw a SALLYS in CDMX, but I'm referring to a "hood" beauty supply store with wigs, weaves, edge control, and satin pillows. Also, anyone of Caribbean heritage who wants to open a restaurant should open Jamaican, Haitian, and Trinie restaurants in Mexico City or abroad. Last - we need to petition TARGET to open stores in CDMX. IJS
Wish I could leave just for the experience if nothing else. But for those that can I saw Italy has a village that is offering homes for $1 to those that are leaving here cuz of election.
Watching the replay. I have my Cosmetology license but it is for the state of TN and I currently live in AZ. I wonder how that works for other countries because here, I cant work, the credit system is not the same.🤔
Do your research or pay me to do it for you because I am about to get an esthetician license and I have the same question? I’m more concerned about the business license part.
Hi Picky Girl This is my first time viewing but I have heard about you in Exodus Summit and Stephanie Perry videos. I have written a book for building well-being as was considering Coaching as an option when I move abroad. Can you provide the link to video involving women who are already doing that?

I don’t think most people realize who think if they get a job in another country, they will be OK but in some countries you would not be able to have a living or a comfortable living off of the money you would make when it comes to working in that country for a company who is in that country what I am saying is in some countries you do not make a lot of money so if you’re working in that country for a company, you actually get paid less but if you are working remotely, you actually can have more money and live better for lower cost something you can’t do in the United States
So you're saying it's like living in the USA, most ppl have to work 2 jobs or more to even care for their family. Raising cost of rent, food and every other thing . So ppl taking a chance to live abroad is not bad
I am an online Notary. What company allows international notarization? Ordinarily, a United States Notary must be in the states...even an online Notary. We can work (in the states) on a Notary platform that accepts international clients...but not the other way around. I don't know everything about the Notary world but I'm highly curious and interested about platforms we can use while abroad. What's the name of the company?
Great ideas. Still trying to figure out what I can do. Don't plan on retiring for another 10 years. Still think ill need/want to supplement my social security/401k income. Do the expats need someone to translate for them? Like when they do business in person? Hospital, banks, doctors, etc.
@ that is something I may look into. But, I’m also looking into teaching at the American International School in Johannesburg. I’m also a certified teacher here in Texas. I was also living in Houston but recently moved back to my hometown of Beaumont.
With most of these jobs, wouldn't you be getting paid the rates of said country? If you move somewhere with a low cost of living I'm assuming that would be an issue
Our country, USA, is not protecting our jobs from other nationals when it comes to India. There are a ton of qualified US citizens trying hard to get work in IT, but H1 visas are handed out right and left to workers from India. Maybe because all the recruiters are from India too.
Given that employers must pay H1B visa recipients the same wages they would pay Americans and the additional cost associated with hiring them, what you're saying doesn't bear out.
