Athens 2004 really redefined what an Opening Ceremony should be, and took it from being merely a long and cheesy song-and-dance number to a truly intelligent and meaningful exhibition of history and culture. There is really a marked difference between the opening ceremonies before 2004 and after it. This remains my favorite Opening. Everyone did such a phenomenal job. And kudos to Sophia Kokosolaki for the great costumes!

AMAZING... SO ARTISTIC SO SPIRITUAL, WITH A MEANING!
Beijing just had a lot of technology and no meaning , just a bunch of crazy things, like a circus,,,
    THIS WAS AMAZING!
    Greeks, should be really proud!!!
    Greetings from Sweden!

The opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games also has the meaning of Chinese history, traditional culture and art. Unfortunately, this meaning is because you don’t understand Eastern culture, so you can’t understand it and you are not qualified to say it here.

This opening ceremony had class, something that Beijing didn't have.

It had the spiritualism the meaning the history of the Olympic Games at very land that gave birth to them. The ceremony should always be carried out Iin Greece just like the lighting of the olympic flame in ancient Olympia.

They're both great in their own way. No need to pit them against each other. What great about Athens 2004 was the spiritualism behind in, Beijing 2008 did a fantastic job in displaying China' culture.

    το έχω δει,
