Hey Rob, Those fenders turned out really nice. You're right, the front edge tapering wider to the rear looks great. That's one of the reasons I dont care for the big name flat flares. Too wide at the front edges. I'd buy yours! Rock on, bro.
Hmmmm… Very rough looking, but also, very utilitarian. Annnnnnd, you made them yourself. Personally I might have welded it from underneath as well and then cleaned up the top welds a bit more, but I like what you did here. Home built and functional, Love it!
I want to do something like this for my 95 Sport. But I don't want to cut the fenders or body at all. I plan on using the factory holes for nut serts. I also am not planing to plate the fenders or body, it will be the flares only. Your's look awesome!
Very good video. I just picked up a 2000 Cherokee limited in great shape can’t wait to do some of this stuff to mine. Keep up the great work and videos 👍
I’ve been scouring the interwebs for ideas for my second gen 4runner. Apparently the second gen 4runner is pretty well forgotten about in the after market industry.
Absolutely awesome job, coming from a machinist and welder. Question, why not grind the welds down? I think it looks kinda cool but personally I would have ground them down and I'm just wondering if you did it for looks, or what. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Rob , Those came out really nice . Good job my friend . Looking forward to your next video and I am subscribed to Nate's channel . He does some pretty cool things. I'm looking forward to his new projects for overlanding . Until next time take care .
Little late not but instead of a bracket you could’ve cut it all the way to the fender line then cut another piece about the 20% longer in width beveled the one Edge... oh wait you’re now getting to the point there you’re gonna do the same thing but bolted only.. I would’ve made a wider piece bent it a little then welded it to the bottom of the arch area and bolted it through the top. In a way creating a v or y sandwiching the fender while being welded to the new fender at the bottom and bolted at the top. Nate clearly helped you to use that bender cause those bends look ALOT better then the ones on the rear fenders.. Needed one more support piece right at that front bend, but your fabrication skills are way way better then they were when you did the rears lol Little tip for your next build.. use your highlift when bending.. attached a wider board to it but you can use it to draw the metal down at that height to the frame and while a longer piece of say a 2x would keep from having those wired bend lines like you had in the rear. Also no hammer marks lol. Those did turn out really well though by comparison.
Great job!! I just prepped my XJ to trim the fenders. A little nervous to start cutting but definitely need the clearance. You guys are in Washington too, right? ❤️🐞. They turned out awesome!!!
I always thought the point of tube fenders was to tie the ends of the tube into something structural. It seems like if the only significant mounting point is the center these may not handle abuse, but then again if you don't drive you XJ like a buggy it's probably fine and you'd probably break other stuff if you were treating it rough enough to break these.
Yes that's probably true. But these are for sure stronger then any aftermarket companies tube fenders because I at least made that center bracket for extra support. If I was making a full exo cage then yes i would tie them into the structure of the cage. But alas I do not have a cage as of now
Your explaination of your project was very enjoyable to listen to and watch. How many sqft of sheet did you use to complete all the flares? Thanks Bud.
I might have made a triangle out of the bracket you made for the fender to add strength but seems to be strong at the end, i'm not a fan of grinding welds down for looks because it makes them weaker, besides your just going to hit the trails hard anyway, not like your rolling up to some fancy car show, it's just a jeep man, nice job I like em.
Would you recommend building your own flares to someone who has never done any metal fab? I have a custom design I want to do, but not sure if I'm getting in over my head.
I would totally recommend it. The cost of metal is not terrible and that's the best way to learn. I never built a set till these. They aren't perfect but I made them. I would say give it a shot
Muddy Beards 4X4 Thanks for the fast reply, also do you recommend that hf pipe bender, I know it's not the easiest thing to use but I don't have 500-1000 dollars to drop on a bender.
Awesome job. I'm thinking about making a set in the next couple of months. Did you use sch 40 black steel pipe like the ones you can find at lowes and home depot?
Really designed for offroad use only, but I have heard the law states that fenders must be as wide as the tires. However I have never heard of anybody being stopped by the police for something like fenders.
Looks Really Good! However, I cringe each time I see guys using a angle grinder/cutoff wheel without a guard on it ( as i type this my left index and 2nd fingers have about 60% feeling and dexterity from accidentally letting my grinder/cutoff wheel kickback into my hand several years ago while working on a fabrication project for my jeep, it cut through my leather glove, down to the bone at the 2nd joint on each finger ) #leavetheGuardsONguys :) On another Note: I would have made the fender panel Longer on the Frontend to include coverage for the side of the' header panel' around the sidemarker light/lenses, to provide a "guard" against busting the front corner on a rock or tree. Overall Looks Great, keep up the good work!
Thanks man. I totally need to put the guard back on. I take it off when grinding because it's easier to get into places, but when I'm using the cut off wheel I need to put it back on.
I came up with a solution for this, on all of my small angle grinders, I have like 6, that way I dont hafta keep switching the grinding disk to the cut off wheel to the flap wheel to the wire wheel, etc., but anyway I take each guard off and cut them with my chop saw, I cut them down where they are still wide enough to work but not full width to get in my way for grinding and cutting, so I still leave about 3 inches of guard which is all I need, just thought yall could use this tip??
He needs to work metal. He’s already cutting steel fine, just lacking forming skills and structural vision. Not trying to be mean or a jackwagon but curves in steel aren’t that difficult, and you could manipulate the sheet over the tubes with a body hammer and not have to slot it; saves time and wicked stronger at the edge. (a tube roller isn’t much more than this pipe bender but it sure would do a better job with a whole lot less work. And no pie cuts. Unless he meant birdsmouth cuts on the webs)
Perfect
I’ll try to do that on my 1994 Limited GC

I wanted it to look that way. Rough and useful. They will get beat up on the trail most likely anyway
I love these ones I LL try to build something similar to my jeep but aluminum ones we LL se how it goes thanks for video very helpful
great job, tanks man, now now I´M going to make it like this too

Nice job Rob...They look pretty sturdy too.
Thanks. You could jack the jeep up with them

👍
Looks great man! Super functional and now you have a beer holder for those wrenchin' days!
Great idea
Those came out really nice! Good Job!
nice fender i'm make them for my xj great looking fenders thanks
Any video on shock mounts
I love your design. I'd put the angle iron facing downward like a teepee so it doesn't keep mud and moisture. Do you sell these?
Awesome work... Built not bought lol glad I found this channel.
Right on dude, liked the brace
Thanks man. I think it makes it a lot stronger
Very nicely done, is there a video for the rear?
Yep just check out our channel. Its on here
Great job on them, I should have made a set for mine like that years ago. The weekend after I installed a snorkel I had a tree snag fender.
I think these will go a long way in protecting the body. Thanks for watching
If you did this to a stock ride height xj would it look good. And how big of tires do you think if you did
The fenders look good. Any reason you didnt go all the way down to the rock sliders? Then go from the sliders to rear fenders.
Just liked this look
Absolutely awesome job, coming from a machinist and welder. Question, why not grind the welds down? I think it looks kinda cool but personally I would have ground them down and I'm just wondering if you did it for looks, or what. Thanks for sharing.
Those look like they turned out great ! Nice video
🤟
Strong Work!!!!
I want to do this. I was thinking of tying into the bumper and slider for maximum strength.
Awesome idea. They would be super durable then
Awesome video man! I'll be doing this to my 01 XJ
Right on man. That will be sick
Those are great! Nice work 👍
Thanks 🤘
I just discovered your channel. Perfectly done. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
Awesome man thank you
Dam mate that look so sick, awesome work
Appreciate it 🤟
Hey! How much do you want for a full set of 4?
Great job man. Looks awesome!
Thanks ma

nice to see people doing their own shit good job!!
Thanks brother
great job man!
Thanks!
Very nice 👍🏽
Great job man.
Really need to do this but finding the tools down here in Costa Rica is a chore.
Costa Rica?! Sounds like a great place to do some off roading.
There are some ridiculous roads down here. And off road is even more insane.
Looks great!
Thanks man
Great video, can you give me the shocks you used for the conversion please?
Shocks?
@@MuddyBeards4X4 I ment like brand or part number, is it just rear shocks up front?
I will have to measure but they are rubricon Express shocks
@@MuddyBeards4X4 word lmk because the OEM style shocks I have up front will not get tight. They bang around and wear the bushings out fast.
Where is the best place to get 10 gauge sheet metal from? Looks like Home depot only goes down to 16 gauge from browsing online.
Probably want to seek out a metal supplier. The metal yards will usually be cheaper the home depot too
That’s a lot of work but it looks great!
Красавчік! Завжди дивлюсь ваші роботи, із задоволенням!
Looks good, I would have personally put the cut in half tube facing down so they don't collect water.
I welded them up along the bottom. No water getting in there.
Great job!! I just prepped my XJ to trim the fenders. A little nervous to start cutting but definitely need the clearance. You guys are in Washington too, right? ❤️🐞. They turned out awesome!!!
Yep fellow washingtonian. Just remember to measure once and cut twice lol
Muddy Beards 4X4 🤣

Thanks man. I am actually not sure how much material I used. I had a 4x8 sheet that i have been using for various projects
It doesn't look good... It looks freaking awesome!!!

I agree. Thanks man.
nicely done
🤘
I ordered the Hooligan Offroad DIY kit. I don’t have time to design things. 😂
Those look badass
Muddy Beards 4X4 Yeah haven’t welded it up yet. Been busy with other things on the build. But they do make a nice kit.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 All built and are bad ass.
Another great video. .....

I have a video building fender armor. I like your version too!! Good work brother
I'll have to check it out
Nice work👍 I want to copy them for my CJ7
👏👏👏amazing
Now that would be cool.

It bends stuff lol. Not the best bends but ya I dont have that kind of coin either. So really not any other options
Muddy Beards 4X4 Thanks for the advice man, I really appreciate it!
Thumbs up if you're ready to hit the trails with a Cherokee XJ after watching this
Nice video! I'm curious, how much lift do you have on your jeep?
About 5 inches
@@MuddyBeards4X4 thanks for the answer! It's a 3" lift + 2" spacers? I'm thinking on doing that on my XJ, but don't know if it works
No 5 inch Rubicon express springs.
Awesome job. I'm thinking about making a set in the next couple of months. Did you use sch 40 black steel pipe like the ones you can find at lowes and home depot?
Yep. Its not known to be the most durable but with the sheet metal skin and some cross supports they have held up well.
Nice job , have a question why is that much cutting on the fenders, and you see that a lot on xj . Just be safe and kip wheeling
Frankenstain 4x4 I was thinking the same thing mate, maybe the fenders from factory are really narrow
Ya there is not much clearance on xj"s. Also I dont want to lift it anymore so cutting it out is the best option.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 ok , just to say did you tought about extending your bump stop .
I have extended stops on the rear but not the front
@@MuddyBeards4X4 get some in the front it will help a lot and it will brevent damege to the axel ...... my bump stop are super extra long
The anxiety of having to match left and right on this would be high for me. hahaha.
Yes especially with that tube bender. It's not exactly scientific lol
Another like here. Nice job!
Appreciate it 🤟
Молодец! Красиво получилось!
