Stop waiting for a messiah. Every black man and woman has the right, power and ability to change our culture. There are too many of us that don't want things to change. They benefit from the way things are. Malcolm was killed by men that look like him because he began speaking of working with white america to improve the lives of blacks. The Nation of Islam is just like the drug dealer on the corner: profiting off of peoples' misery and fueling it. They benefit from the conflict between the races. Why change.

I'm a black man, 37 years old and over the last three presidential elections have probably stood in line for about 12 hours just to vote. Everyone on this panel is highly educated, (most highly paid), and very well respected in both the white and black community.
What I'm still trying to understand is what is it exactly that they(we) want from President Obama? We asked to be treated no different than anyone else, but it now seems like we're saying "hey we're both black so treat us different".

A man who can be preacher, teacher, motivator, entertainer, researcher, critic and friend - all simultaneously... .poignant, motivating, comic, demanding, enlightening, intimidating, inquiring and reassuring. He communicates with his audience, whoever it might be, with empathy and pathos, love and demand ... a mind and a heart clad in humaneness. Our collective potential expressed as insight and expectation. Perhaps mankind CAN evolve further ...

Black people have to empower themselves! All of these successful black people need to effect change in the aa community! We always looking to the government to give us a hand out! iTS NOT going to happen! Blacks people have to build their own schools their own businesses their own colleges etc! It's starts from the grass root level! Michael Dustin and cornel west and al sharp ton and Oprah and Tyler perry and to jakes All these black people with influence and all these successful black athletes why don't THEY DO SOMETHING! All they do is complain and argue amongst one another and attack the president it's foolishness and it will get us no where!

    • @jkimmay2313
      @jkimmay2313 8 років тому +2

So your belief is that all of this is Obamas fault? Black men and women with influence and their own money can do things to promote black business and education within the AA communities! Michael dyson cornel west what are these guys doing besides "talking"... Just like your rant it's solves nothing! It does not solve the issue.

Speaking for us and doing for us are two very different things! Speaking without action is pointless sir. If we have money to be on the top of the list for consuming surely we can also take some of them at money and began
Producing. I stick to my belief that it starts at grass root level... Trying to get anything from the federal government has proved to be historically ineffective!!!

    • @ericgarner1000
      @ericgarner1000 8 років тому +1

Jill Kimble It's not just President Obama's fault, it's the entire design of the white capitalist power structure that's at fault. It's not just Obama's fault because we have been in this state of neocolonialism since 1969 and the civil rights movement, when we obtained political power without economic power.
Black men and women with money CANNOT influence the present property relations of the economic system within America and here's why:
      1) No matter how prominent a job/position they have in the white power structure (CEO, Pres., VP, manager, etc...), THEY WORK FOR AND SERVE SOMEONE ELSE. This means that their money (no matter how much they make) is under the control of someone else. There is only so much they could do without 'losing their job' or little influence so to speak.
They must worry about being to work on time and every day, there is NO TIME FOR ANYTHING ELSE (start a business, etc...).
      2) The hourly wage alone is NEVER enough money (no matter what the salary), to start a business or buy property without a loan. No matter how much money you make, your expenses rise (family, bills) eventually causing you to live from check to check. No extra money for extra activities.
      3) Even if you do have the money saved (in millions), you still are not allowed to buy property with just money down, YOU MUST GO THROUGH A BANK TO GET A LOAN. The banks then put you though a rigorous set of requirements only to reject you in the end. I know, my wife and I tried to get a business loan. IT IS NOT THE FEDERAL GOV'T THAT IS TURNING US DOWN, IT IS THE PRIVATE BANKS THAT IS DOING THAT.
I mean sure they'll give you a loan for a car or a house, but a loan of a million dollars to start a corporation sized business? Forget about it; and that's what we need you know, black owned CORPORATIONS to put thousands and even MILLIONS of us (AA's) to work, a true self supporting community. THERE IS NO WAY THE WHITE ESTABLISHMENT WILL ALLOW THAT. We would have to protest and fight in the streets for this (which is what we REALLY should be fighting for in the first place instead of just police brutality and a street being named after someone).
      4) Even if ALL AA celebrities pooled together and tried to obtain a presence for businesses nation wide, again THE WHITE ESTABLISHMENT WOULD BLOCK THIS, and they've been blocking this all along by threatening to fire top AA celebrities and CEO's, and bank redlining restrictions. The only way that we can get businesses is through holding companies and 'silent partner ownership' (check the Diplomats - the hip hop group - and there ownership holdings).
      5) In order to grow, our small businesses need WHITE CORPORATE support through investment shares, etc... (HARPO Productions for example, oh you didn't think Oprah owned everything did you? She only owns 45% of Harpo productions at best). This seizure of power severely limits what a black owner can do as far as hiring decisions.
I'll stop there but there are other reasons. Merely to blame the black capitalist class is to misunderstand how capitalism works and how ruthless it is to a small business community such as ourselves. You are dealing with corporate monopolies who have complete control over the entire wealth of the US and almost the world. This is why our businesses are small and struggling, with the constant threat of being put out of business.
We are small 'auto dealers' trying to compete with huge car company/corporations that own the iron ore, rubber, transportation, airwaves, and have lobbyists in the gov't. This is why every time you turn around, a black owned business is going out of business. They can under bid us in the price, because it's cheaper for them to have products manufactured.
I am not saying 'do nothing,' I am saying that 'we need to stop blaming ourselves and take the revolution to where it really matters, CLASS STRUGGLE in the streets.' We need to threaten to tear this country apart to change things ECONOMICALLY instead of just going with the flow and looking down on each other, being blinded by our individual successes in a 'white mans world.'
It was in the sixties that the most hope for our progress was a reality, but they killed the leaders and pushed the country and us to the right as some of us got their jobs while the rest was left behind to fend for themselves in the streets by 'hustling.'
We need to get back to the roots of struggle, this time fighting for our right to own our communities (instead of just for desegregation), like other nations are doing INCLUDING ISIS (although Isis is going over board but hey, they are scaring the shit out of the white man huh?).
What you don't understand is that they will only allow us to have there money for as long as we buy their products making them rich. The minute we try to do for our selves, they will cut the money supply. THEY DO NOT WANT US AS PRODUCERS, THEY WANT US AS CONSUMERS. THEY DON'T WANT US AS OWNERS, THEY WANT US AS LABORERS.
It is NOT THE GOV"T THAT IS SAYING NO, IT IS THE BANKS AND PRIVATE CAPITAL THAT KEEPS US IN A DEPENDENT STATE TO WHITE AMERICA.
Look at South Africa, their movement is stuck right now as is ours. They (the blacks) are up against PRIVATE CAPITAL (the Dutch millionaires and billionaires) that owns their land and resources. That is a severe distortion in property relations (Lenin). They will gun us down if we turn this into an economic struggle instead of a political one.

    • @ckbond41
      @ckbond41 8 років тому

+ericgarner1000 This is the reason why black folks should put their money in black owned banks. I think if you went to a black owned bank you might of got your loan. But to be honest, whenever black reach anyway they thing their own is not good enough. You have to understand how Capitalise works. If you spend with them, they are very very happy. The minute you stop spending with them, they would take notice and adjust their direction.
May I ask, Why don't black Americans put their money in black owned banks?
Look at the church with their collections, all or most are going in white owned banks and the banks are using the multiples to make loans to white and other races of people. Now wonder Black Americans can't get no respect from nowhere.

Also let's not forget that even though 95% of blacks voters voted for Obama, it only made up of 13% of the total vote, only 2% up from 2004. I know we all like to THINK we are the one's that got him elected, truth be told even though we were a nice part of it, we weren't the deciding factor. Large amounts of money, a great grassroots campaign, and a catchy "Yes We Can" slogan also did the trick, of which millions of whites were involved. I wish they would specify what it is they are demanding.

It is quite interesting Mookey, most of the ones you find in here imho, are PAID PERPS, we know them well enough to know they don't do anything without a dollar behind it so, why would they care about what Blacks think or are talking about? While UA-cam's considered a free social outlet, don't you think for one second there aren't any PP's in here, just to spread lies and deception! Most of the ones commenting are only miming what they've heard somewhere and have never even interacted with Blacks, their comments give them away! NOBODY in this country knows woodies better than Blacks, with over 4 centuries of experience with them is PROOF and you're bound to learn something about them!
They've spent a lot more time slowing us down and undermining the efforts of Blacks than they EVER have helping them, this is no anomaly, it's been proven time and again and STARTING with short term employment from Black men, the HEAD of every Black family, whose been replaced with continuous long term employed Black women, this isn't an anomaly either, it's INTENTIONAL, keep a Black family mans employment stagnant and he's verbally castrated by his woman. Many Black women have lost their minds because they don't understand the game on this level, half of them have gone crazy and the other half's raising the money for the trip! I raised 4, 3 of my own and i was able to do it, not because of long term employment, which i didn't have but, because i had more talents than working a job i never liked anyway!
I made more money BELOW the radar than i ever did working and had some quite decent jobs but, instead of me preparing for the beginning, the minute i saw my first check from them, i prepared for the END! When i pulled up in the parking lot of a new job they begged me to take, in a Chrysler Town & Country i paid cash for TWO YEARS ago that i bought for my wife and paid CASH FOR, i received a pink slip the next day and it dawned on me what my Dad taught me many years ago that he said to me: The only thing wfs with a nickel hate more than Bfs themselves, is when Bfs have a fuckin' DIME! Man was the old wise man correct, we've FORGOTTEN more about them than they'll EVER know about us, tell me we second guessed what would happen with Darren Wilson and Mike Brown? We knew because we've seen it time and again. Let someone come here and tell me I'm wrong and if they do, they'd better do more than just say it, they'd better explain why because if they don't, when i get done tearing a hole in their ass, the word ENEMA will be given new meaning!
      Peace to you!

mookeychase0907 Thanks for your comments Mookey and the Creator gave you a "time-out" too and showed you what you no longer want to be a part of! Prison's the gateway to hell and sometimes, some of us have to be brought inside those gates to realize how hot that fire is! All kinds of things go on there that you don't want to KNOW about and many more you care not to TALK about! The Creator's got something else for you to do and prison AIN'T IT BROTHER!
I'm glad you made it out in one piece brother, you OBVIOUSLY have some wits about yourself and a STRONG WILL or else you wouldn't have never made it out and it's a TRUE example of what's often said, "What doesn't KILL you, will make you STRONGER!" The ONLY people who TRULY know the price of FREEDOM, are those who've lost it before and you and I BOTH know, it's PRICELESS!
It's incredible how being held in one place for a long period of time, will force you to OPEN your mind, you get to the point where you don't even see those walls anymore and the only thing your vision is focused on, is what you're going to do with yourself when you get your freedom back, you know EXACTLY what to do and the FIRST thing you establish within yourself, is to STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THERE!
Nobody can tell me there's no such thing as GOD, as some would say or, a CREATOR, something much greater than ourselves and if you don't, here's an example: ManKIND can cure diseases, build fabulous automobiles and put a manned/womaned space station in orbit but, you know they CAN'T DO? Create a SKAB, when you cut yourself and it heals, that's PROOF beyond all doubt that something's working inside AND outside of you, that's much greater than yourself!
I consider myself a SERVANT to HUMANITY, that's why I'm here, to SERVE! You and I Mookey, we OWE brother: Our parents, they didn't HAVE to care for us but, they DID, those who tried to steer us right, we went left and cussed them out, they didn't HAVE to do that, those cops who arrested us, they could've KILLED us but, they DIDN'T, even those prison officials who took care of us at the taxpayers expense and last but not least, the CREATOR who sent us here for a PURPOSE, he/she could've ENDED us but instead, gave us another chance to GET IT RIGHT!
We OWE and it may take us a LIFETIME to PAY UP and we WILL, whether we want to or not! I understand this and I'm OBLIGATED to pay that price, whatever it may be!
Ashe Selah to you brother and may the peace and blessings of the Creator be with you on your walk through this life!
      I

Clint Flournoy Clint my dude I couldn't have said it better(Malcolm Mike or Boyce either lol) Malcolm is one of my heroes my pops and Jesus complete my top three. Prison is what some of us need in order to clear the smog and open our minds. I say if you're in the streets you need to go to prison because you have to make up your mind and choose if that is what you want for most or the rest of life or not? Do you want freedom or bondage? I know the reason I went to prison not only because I committed a crime but the underlying issue was why did I commit crimes? So I tell dudes all the time if you don't know why you go to prison you'll be in and out until you find out,I always take the example of Malcolm prison was the best thing that happened to him and at the time it was for me too. So much so that I looked towards the heavens thru the roof of the cruiser and I said "thank you God" See I knew I was gone for a minute my daily life of crime irresponsibility neglect and bad decisions was finally over. Man that was a good feeling and 22 years later I still remember how that felt. Clint I agree I couldn't quite figure out what my purpose in this life was it finally hit me matter fact my Muslim homeboy told me 11 years ago he said "Dee your here for one reason my dude to serve" I realized at that point we are all created to serve our brothers that is the reason why we make it thru so many things to gain the experience to help the next man or woman thru it, God is far beyond brilliant! Who else but and experienced person could help one thru troubles or problems? So that is the reason for all the mercy you explained not so we can come back and shine but so we can come back and some one can see us shine and believe they too can shine after a setback. So Clint keep walking in your calling my dude I am a counselor in the Human Services field I have worked with all kinds of populations and I loved all of them bar none. I may not like my co workers but the clients residents etc is what I love and why I live. The most important people of all times were those who served those who gave their lives so that others could live better lives. My brother take care until next time...

@@LoveFoundation100 What about national policy initiatives similar to Bill Clinton's information innovation initiatives that spurred private investment and job growth in the 90s?
Why couldn't President Obama have pursued a similar moon shot initiative in the energy sector to get industry leaders and private investors excited to part ways with their monetary reserves to stimulate job growth?
All Americans feel the energy of a booming economy when it happens, and that gives them a sense of hope, progress and positivity. It energizes the citizenry.
That is what Bill Clinton's presidency did for this country, because he had a vision for where he wanted to take the country, an understanding of the technologies that needed to be developed to realize his vision, and ideas about how to get industry leaders and private investors excited about the opportunities possible with the implementation of it.
This is where I disagree only slightly with Dyson's statement. A rising tide that can target diverse segments of society is a good thing. That is what many Americans experienced during Bill Clinton's presidency.
If America would give Hillary Clinton a chance to hold the reigns of the nation for at least one term, I think America could feel that sense of hope and prosperity again.

When in Roman do as the Romans. Dr. Dyson knows when and where to do what is appropriate. What's wrong with know when and how to speak to people in their own language? Our ancestors knew when and how to speak to people appropriately. Do you really thing that Dr. King spoke to his inner circle the same way he spoke when he was speaking to 250,000 people- No! What are you doing to make a difference?

You "assumed" I was being rude because I corrected you on a quote that had nothing to do with the sentence that followed it? NOR is there a country called Roman. I will take the higher road by saying I apologize if you thought that I was being brash. Hmmm, but, I'm not the ignorant one. Be careful with your choice of words, unless you are looking in a mirror. And furthermore, what was uncivilized about what I said? The only person that I could ever be intimidated by is.... uuuum.. NO ONE.

Special rights. How silly! The right to attend a school that has the same resources and access to updated textbooks as a student in the suburbs is an equal right. The right to be subject to the same punishment for the same crimes is an equal right, and the ability to NOT be turned away from a position you are qualified for because you are Black is equality. Your special rights claim is off. Fact is, with or without Dr. Dyson, racism still exists in America and the govt needs to weed it out.

in the 70's the televised representation went from showing poor white folks in need, to showing "welfare queens". prior to this period, blacks were kept from receiving government benefits, like SSI and AFDC, for example. field workers and cooks and nannies weren't covered.
I just want to add, you ignored the question about the "hidden welfare sate". That is the welfare that we provide for the rich.

If the President came out and publicly endorsed programs specifically for blacks how many people in congress would support him considering the lack of support he gets now for trying to DO ANYTHING? They already call him every pejorative term in the book. Let's vote him out of office and elect someone we KNOW has no interest in helping the black community. How much sense does that make?

Why is one side of town without resources? Historically speaking most "black neighborhoods" were once thriving economies, especially inner city areas, so the real question is what happened to them? I would say its the social programs, the programs that say blacks are inferior and need more help because they can't achieve on their own. The programs that say blacks need the help of bureaucrats. Can't you see that the welfare state is whats oppressing blacks not the "white side" of town.

    • @MsBahbii

Like Bill Clinton did with his information initiatives, Barack Obama could have pursued national initiatives to spur private investment in innovative technologies that could have stimulated job growth in areas to benefit all Americans. But that kind of smart politics requires vision, intelligence, political skills, imagination, and the ability to form alliances with industry leaders to implement policy initiatives that can benefit producers as well as consumers.
That is why Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice for president than Barack Obama in 2008.
It's hard for me to admit that, because I was such a strong supporter of Barack Obama in both of his elections, but looking at the fallout from his presidency, I believe it to be the truth. He should have remained in the senate a few more years to hone his political and leadership skills.
Barack Obama served his purpose in being a great representative of the black community in the office. In that regard, Michael Eric Dyson is correct in that black America is still waiting on their Willie Mays ( aka first black advocate) to hold the office of the presidency. And in being the first black advocate to hold the office, it does not mean a black president cannot represent all citizens of America. It just means the first black president who will be unafraid and unashamed to truly champion causes that benefit the African American community.

Not really, because the counterargument is "Well, hell, we wouldn't be in the lowly state we are in now if it weren't for slavery, if it weren't for Jim Crow, if it weren't for employment discrimination, and educational discrimination." So there is an obligation for the government to make concessions for a minority that were inhibited by racist practices of the past that have survived and are still in existence today.

No President should be helping out "black people", Presidents should be helping Americans regardless of their color. When you make black people in this country into a special case you galvanize any accomplishments they earn because everyone else looks and says.."he/she wouldn't be there if it weren't for affirmative action etc" Leave black folks alone in this country and allow them to prosper on their own as they've proved they can do.

Saw this on a "Friends" FB News feed, and found it, quite an interesting Perspective. I've always been profoundly found of [some of] Michael Eric Dyson and the depth of his thinking - THIS caught my attention as a VERY INTERESTING PERSPECTIVE... something to "Think" about, indeed.
He even speaks of an inherent "Code" of non-communication among our African American culture - Stuff that "We Know.... but won't say/admit to Publicly or even in Private in many cases. And I'm MORE THAN SURE... that there ARE THOSE, that wouldn't even promote the thought-provoking Logic of what Dr. Dyson is professing here... as to NOT give the appearance of "Not Supporting our First African-American President. And I DON'T BELIEVE FOR A MOMENT, that Dyson is saying this as in "Not Supporting The President... NOT AT ALL. But we KNOW, that some would use it as a base... and try and discount the Logic of what's been chronicled here.
I personally am Marveling at the faces of the so Called ELITE Black Leadership at the discussion table... wandering what's REALLY going on in "their Minds" at that very moment of Dyson's expounding Rhetoric!!! :-)

If this type of attitude were verbalized more in the black community it would absolutely help race relations.
