This video helped me a great deal. I was hesitant about the air gap, but fortunately my Bosch 800 series dishwasher has the air gap feature built-in. Didn't use the jack but the old disposal on top compressed the new flange, after I loosened the screws on the under mounting plate, the snap ring went right on. My new insinkerator evolution supreme SS is installed. Upon turning on, the sound was like my old insinkerator (branded Kenmore) when it was jammed. I was devastated thinking that my new disposal was defective. Not so! It's just that quiet. Had to remove the quiet baffle to see the monster in action. New design lets you remove baffle from the top. Happy, thanks for the help.

Hey, did it myself today! Replaced a Badger 1 with the Evo and your jack suggestion was the secret sauce! I'm so glad I stumbled across your video. You have no idea how the jack saved me. You'd have to be a power lifter to hold this thing up and mount it at the same time.

Thanks so much! I've seen a lot of different methods including seeing a friend get his knee under the disposal to hold it for a little bit while he installed the disposal. The car jack is a more relaxed and IMO easier way to do it. Congratulations, great job!

I kept doubting that I had it on properly until I was able go get.under and see exactly what I was doing. I have never used a jack to change a tire in my life but it was a $225 deal breaker. I would have definitely paid a plumber if not for that tip.

Air Gap? Not always necessary, loop the dishwasher disposal hose. If one does use an airgap, they don't need to be outside the cabinet. A few years ago, I installed the huge Evolution 1 HP, prestige I think. It took up so much room but it would grind rib bones fairly quietly.
Some people have a sink that is not properly connected to an outside vent so this is extremely helpful
Why wire and knock out the drain plug after the unit is mounted? If you have enough slack in the wire, connect wiring before mounting the unit, so you can turn it over and work on it rather than lie underneath it trying to stuff wires into the cavity. Pounding out the drain plug after the thing is mounted can loosen the mounts and even damage it. Remove the dishwasher drain plug while the disposal is out, so you can steady it and easily turn it over to shake out the plug. The drain tube mount is trickier than it seems -- its rubber flange is so slippery that the tube can work its way loose under the spring clamp. Better to use a metal hose clamp (the instructions say that "failure to use the spring clip voids the warranty," which is ridiculous if you use a more secure clamp).

No problem, I enjoyed it. I was amazed at all the various models that InSinkErator has now.
Install the drain assembly to the body of the disposal with the two screws provided BEFORE you try to pick up, position and turn ring to secure disposal. It seems like a small step but the drain 90 will allow you to grab it with your right hand and control the disposal as you lift it up. Be careful that you don't mess up that electric connection if you are using a jack. That quick-connect electric jack we a horrible idea.

Awesome video thank you. The only thing I think you messed up on is how you installed the quiet sink baffle, scroll to 9:02. I'm pretty sure you installed it upside down or the other way around. Yeah the idea about the car jack is awesome thanks and although I actually have one just like that and I really didn't needed it unless you are super weak and the reason why I say that is because I have an insured back but I was still able to install it myself without any help and is actually not hard at all, but as an option it was a smart thing for you to show that so great job.
I know it looks odd but that was the right way around. They do it that way on this model so that it can be taken out and cleaned. Thanks so much!

When attaching the disposal's discharge tube, time 6:55, to the anti-vibration tailpipe mount, What is the rubber piece with the metal spring hose clamp called that holds the blank drain pipe to the Garbage Disposal? Where would you go to find a replacement for said piece?

I usually just put a plug underneath the sink cabinet and an appliance whip on the disposal and let the plumber have fun with the rest lol.
I had an issue with a customer that they needed to turn on the disposal to empty the sink of water. It was a new kitchen but the second disposal. Turns out there wasn't a plumber there doing the work, just the carpenter. The sink was an extra deep sink. The bottom of the sink was exactly to the middle of the drain pipe coming from the wall, so it should drain, all be it slowly, But by putting the disposal on the sink they lowered the water level below that of the drain. They were using the disposal to pump the water up into the drain lol. Had a plumber worked on the job it wouldn't have ever been an issue.

Ummm install my 1hp evolution prestige black to black white to white and grounded hard wired from existing disposal. When I flip the switch I see a spark at the bottom of the disposal where it is wired! Is this strange?????? It comes on and operates after the spark but I assume a spark on start up is very bad yes????? 10amp breaker
Hi Rick. Yes, that is bad. Something is wrong, perhaps a loose connection.

Does this product require you to have a hardwired wall switch or is there another option? I've seen older units that have a magnet that you place in the drain in order to activate it.
You can hardwire the disposal to your switch loop going to the switch or you can plug the disposal into a receptacle that is controlled by a switch.
I've recently seen an air switch unit used to control the disposal. There's a decorative button installed on the countertop that is a plunger with a hose that goes to the air switch.
I usually install a plug under the sink for a disposal because it's a lot easier to wire an appliance whip while on the counter. Turns out this automatically works well with an air switch because the unit I saw plugs into a non switched plug then you plug the disposal into the unit and your done.

What will happen with the soap dispenser? The code also mentions that a high loop is also acceptable for this purpose and so an air gap is not always necessary.

Thanks for this video. I followed and replaced a Badger 5 with an Evolution Compact. The new unit is very quiet. What blows my mind is I went to two Home Depot stores and they don't stock this item. Yes, they have it online, but it's $9 less on Amazon at $180. HD has a bunch of Badger 5s, but they rust after 5-6 years and leak water out the bottom. Ordered it from Amazon with Plumbers Putty, arrived 2 days later. The dimensions of the Evolution Compact are almost identical to the Badger 5. I'd say the Evolution is about an inch wider, but my drain tube lined up with no problem. This is because the drain tube coming out of the Evolution is flexible. Here's a video showing the dimensions

That stinks overtime when you have trash sitting for a while. If you have to dump your trash often then its not a big deal.
