So the other day, I was playing rainbow six siege, and I heard one of my teammates make a callout in the voice chat. It was a real life gamer girl. God, I kid you not, I just stopped playing and pulled my d*** out.

the nice thing is if they can change the uname field without notifing the account owner that means they can set the uname to whatever they want which means if they change their minds about some of the more popular invalid names they can revert it.

Wow. I can't believe they are doing this again. Microsoft is really killing their own game with this and chat reporting.
This is done to discourage account selling
One of my first fears when Microsoft pushed account migration is the risk of them going after "questionable" usernames as migrated accounts will fall under the enforcement of the Xbox User Conduct rules. But I didn't expect them to use the same indiscriminate censorship regiment as in the chat system. There's going to be a lot of wrongfully scrubbed names in the pool in the name of "family-friendliness" simply because they have a specific combination of letters in their name.
Watching this ecosystem sanitized to hell is an absolute travesty.

@HalfSmart Yeah. Bro, my friend's name was changed because his name was originally "It'sMeFather879" and Mojang instantly thought he was trying to go for, "It'sMeDaddy879" So, now his name is "DripLord34".
@@jorcs3776 But account selling is 90 % taken up by minecraft alts used for hacking, the reason these accounts are worth thousands and aren’t used are because no one is buying them in the first place.
Account selling is against TOS iirc, so sold and compromised accounts are likely what's being targeted here
That would make sense, but a lot of these accounts don't have rare names, capes, or anything else of the sort; I don't see why they would be sold or targeted at all, it's odd

Very funny since mojang themselves have stated years ago that they don't censor usernames, and even cite the scunthorpe problem. The article that mentions it is still up, and as with every other help article for some reason claims to always have been last updated an hour ago or so.

Yeah but Mojang Studios isn't the only company at play here- Microsoft probably has different thoughts.
The thing that i find funny with Minecraft's username profanity filter is that my current name, 'childwatcher', is completely allowed and i've been able to keep it for ages! My account has also not been changed yet.
One of my mc accounts has the ign “ImANiggerXD” and I’ve been using it since 2017. There’s plenty more accounts with extremely racist/bad words that will make your ign of “childwatcher” look like a joke when it comes to profanity.

You think Mojang verified each account for suspicious activity? Quite a bit of them look completely dead or untouched. Jouna08 and EKiNTK got their first NameMC views ever about a month ago. That means they were relatively inactive in servers, enough that nobody searched them on NameMC prior to now.

As saddening as it is to see unique accounts destroyed, account buying, selling, & trading is still an issue and thus scamming, hacking, etc... I would suspect many of these non-dupe accounts have been transferred between different owners. If Microsoft can change account names / block accounts to combat this then so be it.

Why are you so sure these are carefully reviewed by humans? It's way easier to just make a list go off automatically because that's what the databases are usually built for, flexible ways to access and edit the data. I bet most likely it's just a human who was given a list and he just checks if all good not looking into it too much, and that's the cause of wrongly taken down usernames, and they're purging them probably because it either causes a bug, someone seen it and thought it was not supposed to be a thing and just decided to start removing them until he realized something is wrong or less likely Mojangs actually intentions to remove the usernames that there are people who care about.
I just spent 6 hours coding, I'm still into it and the fourth tea was definitely spare.

My Xbox name from my account, I missed TheFinisher, so I used ThaFinisher, then changed it to xX_TheFinisher_Xx. This caused most admin commands, and shortcuts on servers not to work for me on Java

Oh yep! zDropMetal and truthlyy12 are TOTALLY rare names, in your opinion at least. They were cleared too, innocent and random players who had no involvement with the name community. (Check 2:03)
@@mianunez4097 People don't sell accounts only for the reason of rare names. The reason could be capes, progress on servers, owned by a popular person at some point there are a lot of different reasons other than the names I just didn't include them because the main reason people sell accounts is for the names.

@@aguyontheinternet1 Stats for other servers? Accounts for stats on any server other than Hypixel would cost like $50 at most. There's nothing of real value there. Regardless, Mojang/Microsoft has no business changing a random player's name without their permission, for seemingly no reason.

how did you do that wild card name search thing?
AFAIK it's only a thing on NameMC, but just do the part you want to search for and then add an asterisk for the wildcard. For example:
*wild - Anything ending in wild
wild* - Anything starting in wild
*wild* - Anything with wild in the name

@@UJustGotGamed If you watched the full video, you would've realized it's not just duplicated usernames affected by this purge. Mojang name-changed several accounts that weren't duplicate accounts whatsoever. Everyone already knows about the risks of owning a duplicate account or invalid name; the point of this video was to highlight the extraneous lengths Mojang went when changing names.

Am I the only one who thinks Minecraft is doing the right thing? Yes the chat reporting system is bad, but compromised, invalid, and dupe accounts are not allowed and can be changed without notice and be dealt with however. Mojang is trying to crack down on some of the illegal accounts which is good, the chat reporting system has not worked out well at all but what is happening with accounts is not necessarily bad.
They are changing names of normal account too. Did you even watch the video?
there's a whole market for rare accounts and those accounts are extremely valuable... if people want to buy and sell accounts, who cares
