I'm in the same boat you were in! Yours is the only one I've found where it was someone my age dealing with henna-to-gray, all of the other videos feature younger women going back to their still same original hair colour, not to a brave new world of silver & pewter where we've never been before! :D I am very grateful that you shared your journey here, now I know not to bother with that method (I've been henna'ing for 40 + years, the first 20 or so was the colourless type, the last 20+ has been to cover. Thanks again for sharing your story! :D
I'm there also. Wanting to see what i now look like w grey hair . May go back to henna as I like it but am very curious abt it . ( also red ) . Mine is pretty long and would hate to damage it taking it out .
It's good to see that Vit C, which people rave about, doesn't seem to work. If I were moving away from henna, I'd just do the roots with a cassia mix (with 10% henna), and then apply some indigo to the older hair to tone down the orange. As nice as the henna colour is, it doesn't suit some people's skin undertone.
At 37 I started seeing greys and wanted to cover them. So I started using henna. My hair is naturally red so it was a good match for my natural shade. I do not dye my hair every 4 weeks like most with roots would do... Instead I used Aveda Madder root conditioner to tint my greys in between my hair touchups every 8 - 12 weeks. Luckily I am not dealing with dark grey but instead brassy greys so it helps blend easier. The madder root feels awesome on the hair and really conditions well in between my henna treatments.
@@raleighsbudgetlife7162 I fell in love with Aveda products back in the 90's. I used their madder root conditioner to brighten my red locks during the summer. They leave your hair feeling silky and healthy. I do not recommend for oily hair as it can leave hair too heavy. The shampoos have different tints as well.
Oh, my gosh you are my Australian twin/doppleganger. I'm in the same boat, sick of spending 8 hours every two weeks doing my henna - it's so time consuming and salons in the USA refuse to deal with henna customers due to unreliable/negative outcomes (unless you want to pay a lot of money of course to experiment). I have a dark brown henna, which is two part process. Cover the grey/silver/white roots of hair with a red (step 1), wash out, then cover the roots with the "brown" henna, which is really a mix of green/blue. The green/blue covering the red creates a brown with red and burgundy (purple) undertones. Not perfect, but cheaper and more natural than chemical processing, which made my hair fall out.
I've never had a doppleganger before, that's pretty exciting 😁 8 hours is a HUGE amount of time to lose every 2 weeks. It's lovely to meet you Chico, thanks for watching and subscribing.
Why 8 hours? Have you tried pure red Moroccan henna? You can let it sit for 30 mins before using . or just apply it because it’s time consuming to apply , takes me more than 30mins. Then wait 4 hours minimum and wash it out. For the 2nd part if you wish rather than a henna premixed with indigo make your own it’s faster and cheaper . Just use pure indigo . Some ppl say to wait after mixing , but I don’t let it sit, it begins losing its properties very fast. So I mix with pinch of salt and water and apply. Then look up charts for how long (especially if packet doesn’t tell you ) . But in my experience 30mins on white hair produces jet black. So perhaps start with 10 mins for lighter browns. I personally don’t like the indigo because it only lasts two weeks on daily washed hair, not worth it for me I like the deep red tones from henna. But I’m not enjoying the brassy orange tones when it’s fading out after 4 weeks. If I leave my henna beyond two Months it completely comes out of the white hairs I have . On my black hair a red tint remains, but can only be seen in the sun . Im thinking of just letting the henna come off the white hair. But I did this once before and after 6 months I went back to the red colour … vanity 😂 No other options since chemical dying doesn’t appeal to me . I’d rather have healthy hair with white or orange hair.
Thanks for the info I’ll just let my hair grow out and just stop using henna to cover my gray. My gray is more on my edges and it’s orange 😜so I’m done using henna to color hair…. lol
Thank you for your kind words. The henna made my hair feel beautifully conditioned and I didn't have any problems with it irritating my scalp. I stopped using henna because of the time involved in application/processing. Thanks for watching and for commenting 😊
I've used this method daily for three days with only limited success. I used henna for about 5 years (but mostly root touch ups) so if others have only used henna once or twice it may work.
Yes, I think you are right Lisa. I was using henna monthly for about 8 months. My roots as well as a quick gloss over the rest for renewed shine. Your comment should help others, thanks.
Rail you should try soaking your hair in oil for up to 12 hours multiple times a month. Coconut oil really does the job it helped me alot I have very dark hair I've only used it twice and it been hopeful yours will take longer to strip since you've used henna longer but I'm sure you will get results after your 3rd of 4th try...... let me know your thoughts
Thanks for your comment Havishka. I ended up growing out my hair. Check out my latest video if you are interested. Your comment may help others that watch. Cheers.
Havishka, I have 20+ years of medium brown henna which started graying about that long ago, so it's safe to assume that what's underneath the henna (last done probably around last Christmas) has long since grown in full blown gray, pewter, silver, who knows. Do you think that the oil treatments would eventually completely pull all of the henna out? I hate the thought of my hair being all gunked up with oil (for any amount of time! :D ), but it's better than having to deal with the whole demarcation line thing, at least for me! :D Any pearls of wisdom will be appreciated!
Sorry it didn't work out, I ended up having a friend remove the color from mine, it didn't remove it all for me so I grew mine out. I have embraced my grey and love it. My mom now looks younger than me but I am ok with that LOL
Hello beautiful Jackie 😙 I was all grey before I started using the henna. It makes me look older too but that doesn't bother me. It feels soft and healthy when grey. As you would know, hard to get curly hair feeling soft when it has been coloured.

That's a handy hint Appalachian, thanks for sharing. I don't know of that brand of conditioner but others who come to the comment section may 🙂

Happy to help 😁 Good luck with your hair.
I was hopeful it was going to work for you. It was totally worth a shot.
Thanks Linda. It was a fun little experiment if nothing else 😂
You must add a bit of water to the vitamin C to activate it
I am very interested in why you want to stop the henna. I think it looks beautiful on you.
Was the henna hard on your hair or scalp?

Same thing happened here. Vitamin C did not remove henna/indigo. My ends are still faded black.
I ended up just growing it out :) thanks for watching

Thank you ☺️
My hairdresser removed henna colour from my hair.
head and shoulder shampoo mixed with 10 vitamin C pills
