A lovely, wholesome meal 👌
That bread looks amazing ! The soup, as well!
Mouth watering again Mudbrooker. You never fail. Thanks for the recipe. I can't wait to try it.
I love barley in my soup but never buy or cook it. This looks like a wonderful yummy recipe to try . Thank you .
Rutabaga too, is really good.
Bulk barley is dirt cheap and is so good.
Someday we'll have a woodstove too.
I had chicken soup and bread for lunch, agree there is nothing better than soup n' fresh bread for a noon meal, breakfast or super for that matter. Have to say, while watching ypu cook,it reminded me of the Galloping Gourmet show & thought you are the Backwoods Galloping Gourmet of wood cook stoves.
And that is an awesome recipe I will try, peace from Peace Country Canada.
I'm starting a collection of good ol cast iron for my cookstove. (Old Atlantic) I bought this summer. Have about 4 different size Griswold frying pans but looking for a good sized stew pot or two. Love your channel ❤️💯👍
Back again for the recipe……making this again….tonight!
Thanks for the video and the recipe
You're welcome
Looks so yummy!
Thank you
Cheers 🍻
Im thinking the only way to find made in America stuff is getting the old stuff from garage sales. thank you it will be back to basics soon
Second hand stores, garage sales and antique shops are all good sources. You'd be surprised at what's out there.
Far superior quality, well worth the search
That looked very good.
It is.
my dad used to make a mean barley soup with oxtails and a bit of ham good soup indeed thx
Barley goes good in just about any kind of soup.
Amazing stove and beef and bread! Also liked camera up above!!
I like it up there too, I'm gonna keep playing with the angles until I can get a good view without being in the way.
Looks great mud! But I have to pass on the peas, sorry LOL
Looked perfect, only I would skip the peas.
You can use all manner of veggies, Even potatoes but they're a bit much with the starchy barley.
Would you consider tossing tha beef in flour before browning to help thicken at the end! I have added barley and I find it thickens like okra. Love both.
You could, but I wanted it a little thinner to soak up with bread. Letting it simmer for another hour or using a bit less broth to begin with would've made it thicker too.
Mud, love your shows, I'm wondering how to restore my cast iron waffle iron, if I can't get the wood handles off, will lye and oven heat ruin them? Thanks.
Yes, you want to avoid lye and heat on wood parts. It's best if you can remove them but if you can't without damaging them you can hang the waffle iron from wires so the handles are above the lye bath. When you season them, wrap the handles with aluminum foil, cover the foil with a thick layer of Play-Doh and wrap with more foil. Season them at 290-300 degrees F. They won't be as dark as they would be if you seasoned them at a higher temperature but they'll darken with use.

Thanks man, I appreciate your reply
Mudbrooker, I found a skillet that I cannot ID. Any chance you can help?
Maybe, send some pictures to themudbrooker@yahoo.com I'll take a look. Be sure to get all of the back and the top and bottom of the handle.
