Hey, Sam. Lifelong Hampton resident here - 65+ years. You described it perfectly - meh. Grew up going to Buckroe Beach (on the Chesapeake Bay) all summer. I haven't been swimming there in many decades; after late June mid-July, be prepared to deal with a lot of stinging nettles - a lot - people not from here usually call them jelly fish, but ouch. I assume it has something to do with water temps and/or salinity. And, actually, this applies to everywhere you can swim on the Peninsula. For a looong time I've only swam at Virginia Beach (on the Atlantic Ocean - I really like the 54th Street area away from the madding crowds) and I've never seen stinging nettles there - ever - even later in the season when the ocean is as warm as bath water - thank you Gulf Stream!! Re: our "weird shaped performing centers" - it's because they're old! They were cool back when they were built; the Coliseum opened in 1970; first official event, the grand opening included a Jack Benny appearance. Yes, Jack Benny. There was one event before that - a concert with a group called The Association. Your grandparents will remember Jack Benny; your parents will remember The Association. You, you young pup, have no idea who either of those are. LOL And, yes, the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel backs up ALL THE TIME. Love your channel, Sam. Cheers, Cliff
Cliff, your comments are the best! And believe it or not, I definitely know who Jack Benny and The Association are! I was raised on quite a bit of variety of genres and time periods so many of my favorite shows growing up ranged anywhere from Laurel and Hardy to Andy Griffith to Columbo. I had no idea Jack Benny was at the first concert at the Coliseum!
@@samsansalone I've been thinking the exact same thing. Assuming that 5 years from now the bridge isn't a bottleneck, I can see Phoebus doing extremely well. Homes there sell for a massive discount over homes on the other side of the water.
Personally I think everyone who is considering moving to the Peninsula should definitely choose Newport News don’t even make Hampton an option just Newport News or Williamsburg is perfect for you
I do lean Newport News, too. Though I've been realizing that I think I like much more about Hampton than I used to think. It's really close for me, now!
Sam I live here in NN for 30 years. My daughter works got 1 kid but can't put her name on housing. Another thing they put it in the paper maybe every other yr. Then they have to call on a phone all day to speak to someone about an application. This is the most control Un fair system I have ever seen. The thing I don't like the people won't contact the mayor or the right official that can change this system. Just saying thanks
Hey Sam, what area or community is fairly nice, safe and reasonably priced for 3 to 4 bdrm apt or house near Ft Eustis Army base? With traveling less than 30 minutes to the base each day. What are the neighborhoods in that area and how would you rank them for above? No wooded, or isolated area. Moving from Illinois to Virginia.
Absolutely depends on a variety of factors. If you want to be in an area with more to do I would lean Newport News as you're closer to things like City Center and the west side, which is nice with museums and nature/trails (Noland Trail is nice, if you like outdoor stuff). But since you're going to be working on the eastern side of Hampton I would check it out first just because it's so close to you and the drive to Newport News isn't too far anyway. I would try Hampton first but wouldn't eliminate either. I would also include York County/Williamsburg depending on your budget and how much of a commute you're ok with.
Hey sam.I have a home in dallas p.a. I am looking to make at least 2 apartment out this here and move to that area.i am interested in both hampton and newport and would like to talk with you about some options.be advised I am still very way in this process.as in am still addressing zoning and finance issues here in dallas.Thank you
Anyone who is looking to moving here, look at this comment and those that follow. Just avoid Southeastern Virginia. Trust me, there's an entire coastline of beautiful country, but not here. Crime is rising since I have been here, and it was already bad when I got here six years ago. Just look at a crime map before coming here and let that help you make a decision.
Lived in Hampton and Newport News and still have family in the area. This video is spot on about these two cities.
I grew up in the area- just interesting listen someone talk about it- good work homie
Hampton is a retirement area older crowd.
Ft. Monroe is an ancient star fort. Look up star forts on UA-cam...they are absolutely fascinating!!

I know where buckroe beach is at...
I was stationed at the shipyards on pier 49, uss enterprise cvn65
Do you recommend moving to Hampton ?
Having lived in both cities, I found Newport News to be enjoyable. Hampton does lack something
Buckroe Beach is great but it needs more amenities, just like he says.
I was looking up crime shows from Newport News and this channel popped up
From Seattle to here; Newport News despite the suckiest road(s) via skateboard
Appreciate all the information man
I use to live in newport news but i moved to hampton its not that ba and i like the school but i do go in newport news :)
Very successful comparison Sam,,, thank you for this new perfect video 🙏👍
New video...lets goooo! Great informative video Sam.
Thanks, Tony!! Appreciate you watching!
Have lived in both (grew up in Buckroe). Schools in both are awful. If you move here with kids, plan on private school in your budget.
Very Informative
Don't forget Poquoson....a terrific place to live and right next to LAFB and NASA!! A great pinnacle between Hampton and Newport News.
Poquoson is racist. Come on now
oh, please@@Toni-id2pv
I've always thought that if I ever move that direction. Hampton is on the top of my list
I must say I think there's becoming a possible opportunity to get value in Hampton, especially with the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel being expanded.

@@samsansalone care to expound on that a bit Sam?!?!?!
Oh really i know a lot of ppl moving out of the both of places due to high crime
I agree. This puff piece is a joke!😂
You should pick up Gloucester and Mathews
Yes! Great idea, thank you!

Newport News is the worst!
Would you recommend moving to Hampton with children ?
I want to pick either with the horrific crime down there now
Not much nice about Hampton. Buckroe has folks putting out some serious cheese for them houses, but that area is like a cheap B-rated Oceanview

Your best bet is Yorktown or Williamsburg. Hampton, Newport News is really bad and has high crime.
Hey Sam we are moving to Lanley AFB in oct we need a realtor. I think we could use your help.
Hi! You can reach out anytime! (757) 577-8764 or sam@samsansalone.com 😃
You described Newport News to a T
Hampton is ragged. I stay in Newport News and yes it is a tough town, but Hampton is a bit rough and just too rundown. I can't stand Hampton
Newport new has Very upscale areas. HAMPTON IS WACK
I’m moving to to VA from Colorado. I’ll be working in SE Hampton/Phoebus. Should I live in Hampton or NN?? Help
Looking for an apt btw
Less crime in Hampton than Newport News.

Bethel area near Todd's lane is a good area right near both
Fox Hill or Michael’s Wood area of Hampton. Phoebus is deep Hampton so the commute from Newport News to there would be draining.
Target 🎯

Hampton for the win!

Hey Dennis! Would you like to email me? My address is sam@samsansalone.com!
Trust me, you don't want to live in this area. It's disgusting and has high crime.
Isn’t Newport News in top 3 the most dangerous cities with the most crime in USA though?
Yeaa.
There was just a shooting at Newport News Heritage high school today. 😥
Well shit there was a school shooting there today
Yes, Newport News is a very bad place.

NN always wins against Hampton.
😂🤣😂
@@woodynorris8224 better shut up
When it comes to crime, sure.
If you want to get murdered
Hampton
As the brilliant Thomas Sowell said “Biden was always been a doofus”
Wtf? Why are you bringing that stupid comment to a video that has nothing at all to do with politics?
Both cities are horrible! Not a good place to raise a family.
