oh i forgot the big pro of norfolk, bars and resteraunts, awesome bars and food, theres a old german bar/resteraunt years ago my brother used to play in dart league and would take me there, kickin pizza and dinner platter and yes BEER!!!
I like the fact that norfolk is big enough to have its own culture and that you definitely feel like your living in a city, but not soo big that its overwhelming. I'm not that much of a gambler, and have only been to the Portsmouth casino twice with family, but I like the idea of the Norfolk casino because it would be built in what is currently a giant parking lot and along side harbor park, and the Amtrak station. I'm hoping the casino would result in that parking lot being turned into a neighborhood with its own unique identity. One pro that I would add are the festivals. It seems like there's always some type of festival going on, and Harbor Fest is one of the best festivals in the entire nation. A con that doesn't get mentioned is that there is a lack of regional cooperation that holds the city back from reaching its potential. Despite that, norfolk is always changing. Norfolk feels way bigger than it was 10 years ago, and im convinced that 10 years from now, the city will feel even bigger if the leadership plays its cards right.
TBH about INDOOR MALLS in general, basically in all the MAJOR CITIES, we could say it's going out of style. In SOME cases partly due to crime, "dash & grab." But mostly because ONLINE SHOPPING is easier & more PROFITABLE for Retailers versus having so many brick & mortar businesses to operate. They are about their "bottomlines" of course. So especially since COVID, they don't have to have as many employees, utility bills & OVERHEAD. The newer construction TRENDS are building OPEN AIR outdoor & DESIGNER Outlet Malls. In some cities they're turning what were once beautiful malls into OFFICE PARK type BUSINESS Malls. That goes for LA CHICAGO HOUSTON ATLANTA, & States like New Jersey Minnesota Massachusetts etc.... So it DOESN'T "necessarily" equate to a "decline" in the city themselves. Norfolk is a beautiful city to only have about 200,000 people. The realtors there hardly ever VIDEO the gifts of Ocean View or East Beach & I AM sure for good reason. Jewels that great you want to keep a secret LOL. VIRGINIA BEACH is great too. 💖😍💯
I think putting traffic as a con totally on Norfolk isn’t fair. That’s a regional issue. Of all the cities in Hampton Roads, I believe Norfolk has the most to offer. It has the hippest people, the best historical housing and restaurants. Drive through VB and you’ll see miles of townhouses in disrepair, strip malls and fast food places. I agree Norfolk has its fair share of issues too but that’s common in Hampton Roads. We’ve been here for six years and have seen no significant change in the area aside from the tunnel project. Part of Norfolk’s problem stems from the lack of political will. Other similar size cities in the US have improved dramatically in the last 20 years. Norfolk is stuck in first gear. Our two Senators only kiss Norfolk’s ass when it concerns the military. The rest of us civilians get nada from DC. I wouldn’t recommend the Hampton Roads area in general to anyone .
Geesh...talk about an ethnocentric take on things. These videos should all have an asterisk that indicates FOR WHITE PEOPLE. Lol...😊 For example, I'm sure this content creator would find that there are a WHOLE LOT of folks who would rather take in a Norfolk State football game than an ODU one. Not even a mention of Norfolk's "other" University. A Division I sports school...totally ignored. The "pros" portion of this video highlights very few things that people of color frequent. (I hope that this wasn't intentionally done.) I cannot disagree with most of the cons. They are accurate. I would challenge the viewers here to venture beyond this gentlemen's very limited Norfolk experience. His prism is very small. If these videos are being created for one very specific demographic, that is perfectly fine. However, he should indicate that in the title or description. These videos are very well put together and this creator seems like a very nice guy. However, it would benefit him to seek input from folks of other ethnicities with regard to finding the many hidden gems that Norfolk (and every other city) has to offer. The result would be a much more expansive and inclusive offering. Respectfully submitted.
Amazing City. My goal
Great video! Lived there decades ago. Was a dump back in the day. It is nice now! You do a good job of promoting its positive aspects
