It's good to see that Disney is still finding ways to keep the iconic characters alive.
It's as transparent as all their ESG decisions. This is only happening because they want to extend copyrighted designs as long as humanly possible.
They don't care about Donald Duck, they don't care about hand-drawn animation, and they certainly don't care about the fans.
Happy anniversary donald duck!
Disney also did a how not to draw episode where it was Donald Duck’s 90th birthday and he was fighting off a bunch of others throughout the decades to try to get a piece of cake
Glad Donald is finally got his own short again...he rules
Happy 90th Anniversary, Donald Duck (1934-2024)!
It’s probably going to be like 2 mins
Despite people thinking, Daffy duck is the best cartoon character in history. I will have to give this round to Donald Duck, despite his many flaws, but it shows how made his fans can relate to and say that he next to Mickey Mouse and Tinker Bell from Peter Pan is the best character in Disney history.
Fancy that. Disney celebrating the hand-drawn medium, by doing something in the hand-drawn medium!
First Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Oswald, Once Upon a studio, AND NOW DONALD DUCK🤩
What was the goofy one?
@@coldghost86 How to stay at home with goofy
Who’ll be next? Daisy, Minnie, Pluto, chip n dale or Pete?
@@SpeedyCrabbit1533 my guess would be chip n dale.
@@ObjectAnimations1Don't forget How To Hook Up Your Home Theater. If memory serves me correctly, that short showed in theaters along with Bolt
Oh my goodness it’s official. We’re finally getting a 2-D animated short film on Donald Duck. It’s opposite day. It’s also to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Donald Duck but still happy 90th anniversary Donald.
Nothing quite beats good ole fashion hand drawn
I dont mind CGI (though I agree the classic hand drawn methods is always fun to see), in my opinion whats important is old school characters like this get new spotlight.
I love hand drawn and Flash.
Love old stuff ❤
@@kootunesscrewysame
@@BerryVilchuck Yeah. BFDI and Homestar Runner kinda got me into Flash animation again.
I also really liked the "How not to Draw" short they made for his 90th as well. Having Donald square off against several versions of himself, including his reboot Ducktales design. All and all, me being excited for a Donald Duck cartoon of any kind is a given. I'm mixed about them doing an archival voice, but that's the only thing I'd question. Looks great.
I feel good and happy to see disney Bring Back the old days when Disney was very good (mostly the hand-drawn animation) finally disney well Bring back the hand-drawn animation and warner bros. Too with his new movie 🥳
Now that’s how you celebrate decades in animation (looking at you Wish!!!)
Um…”Once Upon A Studio”?
@@Mechasonicrocks that too!
Donald is by far, my ultimate favorite character, mostly due to the comics, but I obviously love the cartoons as well
D.I.Y Duck Is Going To Be Spectacular!🦆
I love Donald Duck! Exciting news.
This would have been the perfect short to debut in front of “Moana 2”. I will always hate that “Once Upon A Studio” was never put in front of “Wish” as it makes the end credit tribute of that film feel hollow without it. I will always miss when Disney would put animated shorts in front of their next animated classic… 😢
They still do that. They just didn't put one in front of Strange World and Wish for some reason (Once Upon A Studio WAS supposed to be in front of Wish though).
When wish was announced I thought it would tie a lot of the movies together was pretty disappointed
The last time I saw a short playing before a Disney movie in theaters was "Far From The Tree" (which also did the 2D/3D hybrid style better than Wish) playing before Encanto.
My goodness, I just saw the cartoon. What a disappointment! The colouring is off, not vibrant like the old cartoons, the sets stale and generic and the gags are known and very predictable. There is nothing fresh or original about this cartoon. Plus points are some moments in the animation of Donald. It approaches the technique of the greats from the previous century. But overall, it didn't make me laugh or feel wonder and awe. I'm a BIG animation fan and appreciate many of Disney's works. But this cartoon is not an hommage nor an upgrade.
LOVE IT! Would love to see a new cartoon with every new Disney movie. Pluto and Goofy needs some love too.
The legend gets a cartoon after his series ended in 1959 (has continued in the 1960s but with educational stuff)
There is also going to be a Donald Duck/Wolverine crossover comic from Marvel with Donald as Wolverine and other Disney characters are iconic X-Men characters. I hope you get to talk about that as well.
First proper short he's had in decades, and naturally it involves him wrecking his house. You have to wonder what his insurance looks like.
What it like return to classic cartooning in the modern era
So Disney IS capable of bringing back Hand Drawn animation.
They have been slowly for the last few years. Sadly, their hand-drawn team is very small. There are only two veteran animators left (Mark Henn was the third, but has sadly retired), though they have been training a small handful of artists in the artform.
@@DaveLeeDownUnderI miss hand drawn Disney so much. Especially theatrically. It’s been 13 years since Winnie The Pooh in 2011.
*Edit* I watched it, and don’t get me wrong, it’s great. But it bugs me that Disney only revives 2D animation for shorts that are only 1-3 minutes. I need more than that
@@dillonohlemiller401
Don't worry. If you want more hand drawn animation from Disney, the Disney Channels have a number of 2D animated shows.
Man i wished that we got a Mickey mouse series that is Also set in the SAME universe as the ducktales Reboot
Yes
Would LOVE that!! Disney are too scared to do anything meaningful with Mickey, sadly!
@@DaveLeeDownUnder so let's just sent mailposts then!
@@DaveLeeDownUnder to be fair Donald needed DT2017 more. The real shame is we never got a Micky series in the 1990s or 1980s to go with Ducktales and Goof Troop.
I know all we get is dumped down preschool stuff
This short film is nice for the character's 90th birthday but the animation studio really had to keep it secret while Mark Henn was doing the centennial short Once Upon a Studio before his official retirement not to mentioned being announced for the next Disney Legend awards ceremony this August.
And I'll tell all of you right now, it's not that surprising.
After Bob Iger kept all the money for himself not letting us getting paid to AI technology taking over our lives during the Hollywood strikes and with Henn now retired (no offense), he clearly made his statement on why the House of Mouse should've been meaningful if hadn't been for politics, corporate greed and tax write-offs the studio has become.
Who’ll it be produced? Eric Goldberg, Andre Deja. WHO!?
It was Directed by Mark Henn, and produced by Dorothy McKim and Jennifer Lee. It was created by Disney’s small hand-drawn team which includes Henn, Eric Goldberg, Randy Haycock, and a handful of trainees.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder just need to know since Eric Goldberg is my favorite animator
Wow I think you've been looking forward to Donald Duck celebrate 90th birthday on Sunday June 9th.
I'm really excited for the new Donald Duck cartoon to celebrate Donald Duck's 90th Birthday! This is going to be a really good cartoon to celebrate it!
This is great for donald duck
I think it should be released in theaters with a Disney film.
That would be great! Unfortunatley, this won't be the case.
I was thinking, if that were to be the case, they should also have shown this before Moana 2.
@@jamesblier6626
2-D and 3-D don't go together.
@@CreditsBean17 True, since they are their own separate styles.
Missed opportunity
We need this short to keep the hope of the Disney+ Tiana series being hand-drawn animated alive
Happy Birthday Donald sounds great!
the short may lack some details like some shadows or shapes to give more depth, but nontheless this shall be a nice start of 2D medium at the iconic studio, and in my case i have a passion 2d musical project for the studio
The backgrounds do have proper shading and shadows. The character himself doesn't but none of the classic Disney shorts had shadows on the animated characters.

This is great, the animation is awsome and i love Donald Duck & handdrawn animation. So its nice to see Donald Duck get a handdrawn short again. MAY Handdrawn animation return to Disney cinema & Disney tv. 💙
Say what you like about Disney, at least they understand the importance of their animation legacy. That's unlike some media titans I could name (cough) Warner Discovery (cough).
Donald Duck #1 🦆🤍💙💛❤
Donald Duck was always one of my favorite Disney characters, and my favorite amongst Mickey's gang, so I can't wait for this new short. The animation alone already looks amazing and nostalgic. I just hope it'll run for a decent amount of time, roughly seven minutes. Either way, happy almost birthday Donald!
I watched it. Really hated the music. It was music from lots of shorts and movies and it’s from stuff that had nothing to do with Donald. It was really distracting and I find it lazy.
Is it bad that I've known about this cartoon coming out for a week.
Now this is great
We need hand drawing back without much flash or 3D animation. I still loved traditional animation and Happy 90th Birthday, our favorite wise Quacker with temper tantrum. 😊
Be be honest I am excited to see another hand drawn animated short by Walt Disney Animation Studios. After hearing the retirement of legendary animator Mark Henn I was feeling worried about traditional animation slowly fading away due to popularity of CG animation. I’m hoping that the trainees will continue to create more hand drawn animated films in the future.
The animation is incredible
Wonderful! On top of this very cute figurine of Donald in The Wise Little Henry dropped on The Disney Store, he's getting a new short! Well deserved!
can you make the evolution of kirby?
Can’t wait. This sounds tailored made for me.
I would give anything to see a bunch of new hand drawn cartoons of Donald, Mickey and Goofy! I've been wanting something like that for years now.
Happy 90th Birthday, Donald Duck!🎂🎉🥳 We all love you!❤
I can't wait for this one..since Donald is one of my favourite Mickey Mouse & Friends characters and still a big fan of it to this day... Happy 90th Anniversary, Donald!! 😄
So cel is back?
It’s certainly not cel animated. But it is hand drawn.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder I honestly prefer handrawn in 2d animation or fully stop motion like in 3d animation with rich cel like characteristics to make it look it was cell made.
Sadly the traditional, hand painted cel style has been dead and gone since I was a baby (I was born in 1993), some of the last films to use it were in the 90's like Don Bluth's Thumbelina, Pebble and The Penguin, A Troll In Central Park, etc. Disney's last one to use traditional cels would've been The Little Mermaid before they started using CAPS with The Rescuers Down Under. Whatever hand drawn animation is still being done nowadays is pretty much all digital. I heard some independent animators still use it but definitely not larger studios anymore.
Man... Donald 90 years... Jezz. I rember in 2004 how he got 70 years old.
Happy birthday Donald
HAPPY 90th birthday Donald Duck ❤!
Those two and a half minutes look FAR BETTER then anything Disney has released in the last 20 or so years COMBINED

Wow, there are several already released 2-D shorts that I was completely unaware of: "Mickey in a Minute" and "How not to Draw", and your video is the first I'm hearing about this upcoming Donald short. Disney is doing a terrible job of publicizing these.
Disney is about to release something I would actually be interested in for a change, and the only reason I know about it is that I subscribed to your channel. (Maybe they should hire you.)
The animation I'm seeing here looks great. A VERY MINOR nitpick is that it looks too modern. I'm not sure how to describe it. I guess it's too sharp and clean. But, again, REALLY MINOR complaint. I'm glad they're even doing the 2D animation with the classic designs, as opposed to the DuckTales reboot or the Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse shorts. I didn't hate the Rudish Mickey shorts, but I wasn't really a fan of the character designs, especially Goofy's.

The hand drawn animation is finally back, although they made on different ways
If Disney shutdown hand drawn studios, who animated this?
I recently watched a podcast in which Voice acting legend Rob Paulson described a sentiment from the 1970's after the advent of drum machines in which a popular bumper sticker phrase was "Drum Machines Have No Soul."
It was really great to see a new hand drawn Donald Duck cartoon or a hand drawn any cartoon. I also appreciate that they wished to honor Donald's original voice by using archived footage but by using that instead of another voice, it sucked the soul and authenticity out of the cartoon.
In hand drawn animation working alongside the voice actor gives the hand drawn character its life because the character is drawn using the actor and their mannerisms as a model. You can tell right away in the short that something integral is missing. There are places where Donald's beak doesn't match the sounds that are supposed to be coming out.
The intention and sentiment was spot on and appreciated but the final project fell flat and comes out as a major disappointment
I watched Donald Duck in diy duck short in 12:20 am in the morning and I like it
At least Disney didn't make it woke, diverse and inclusive.
Just watched it on disney+. Very good. More of this!
I wish it was 5 minutes like the original shorts. 3 minutes isn’t long enough.
What next going to show up cinderella and Anastasia or Mowgli and Shanti or Lilo and stitch or Aladdin and Jasmine
My favorite Disney character he make me Happy
Just saw the short. Great to hear Clarence Nash doing Donald's voice again.
So excited for this!
Idk. It was really short and he barely said anything
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONALD 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
That animation is so smooth. If they're going to make another 2D animated film, it better have animation as smooth as this.
There’s a Sesame Street movie coming soon are you gonna do a video on it and when it comes out to theaters or no
No probably not
@@DaveLeeDownUnder we want some knowledge on when it will come out to theaters nationwide

We need more hand drawn animation!
I hope it get nomonatied for an oscar
As it’s not being released theatrically, it unfortunately would not be eligible. An Emmy, perhaps!
It us a missed opportunity but hey
Finally more New Disney Shorts I hope they continue making more Disney Shorts in the future
He may gets stuck with all the bad luck but still I love Donald Duck. Happy 90th birthday Donald!🎉
A new Donald Duck cartoon kick ass. 😀👍
Finally! XD
Donald Duck is my favorite character.
I haven’t been this excited about something from Disney since once upon a studio
Is coming tomorrow?!?!? I’m excited 😁😁😁😁😁
Donald Duck is my favorite Disney character. although I prefer Tony Anselmo's voice over Clarence Nash.
Is This Short Coming To Disney+ On June 9?
Nice to see that we’re getting a new Donald cartoon, even if it’s only a few minutes long.
My favorite Disney character of all times since i was in diapers
