  • Māori children made up the majority of those in state care, with the inquiry finding they were also more likely to be sent to harsher institutions and endured higher levels of physical abuse than other ethnicities, while also giving rise to gang membership.

Unfortunately there would of been more whanau care abuse than state care cases, Incest was rampant in Polynesian families back in the day especially in Maori whanau's. Father's, Uncles, Aunty's and others were molesting other whanau member's and it was swept under the carpet and encouraged not to be talked about. The amount of story's told to me from victims of this abuse is unbelievable, some even resulting in pregnancy's. The victims of the abuse that I know of are in their 40s right up into their 70s and all say it was whanau member's not outsiders.

So why were they ending up in state care if there are Whanau there to step in and take care of them?

So, does that mean the State of NZ is to take the blame for this concerning maori, regarding all the colonisation rhetoric etc ? What are or were 'the harsher institutions' and the 'higher levels of physical abuse than other ethnicities', how was that possible ? A lot of unanswered question here.

Thats why they have had the inquiry...to get these answered by victims and those who saw the abuse.

@@neillewis785 It’s because they’re poor. Them being Māori is only relevant because they were a target minority during settlement which created deprivation in a large chunk of their communities. No different from poor Irish, poor British, poor Scottish, poor white Americans, poor African Americans, poor Latinos, poor French etc. Look at the states of all poor communities and you will see the same stats world wide.

@@EvilVillianInc Plenty of poor people in NZ and it's only going to get worse. So what do Maori leaders intend to do about it?

@@clintonrobinson8070 Yep. The gap is widening and it seems to be a trend in all western countries. They can only do so much. Māori are NZ citizens and fall under the responsibility of themselves and the crown. Māori no longer have the right to self govern and are not responsible for the actions of random people with Māori heritage.

@@EvilVillianInc Expecting the state or the crown to help is unrealistic. Who do you think put us in this position in the first place? It isn't incompetence or naivete on their part, it's a systematic destruction of western culture. Ask yourself who gains from our loss?
