    Awesome that they let you choose some scents to try! I will have to add Lost Alice to my sample list. I saw some comparisons to Gris Charnel (which doesn't work for me), so I ruled it out, but now I'm hoping I'd get the slightly sweet carrot aspects perhaps. Fingers crossed! ;-)

      Gris Charnel also diden't work for me! You are not alone, its very hyped up 😅 and it gets compared to Penhaligons Mr.Beauregard. I can confirm that they are, I tried them sied by side, but I love Beauregard while Gris Charnel is just meh. So I am definitly gonna try lost Alice too.

      I have both and I don’t think they are anything alike. IMO Lost Alice is more subtle.

      Oh really? Gris Charnel did not even cross my mind as a comparison to this one. But then I have only had a sample of GC so perhaps my recollection also isn’t great

    I just bought a bottle of Hemingway, and I now want to explore the brand further. I had tried much of the line before, but only at shops and in passing. You have to wear MM’s and not just sniff them in a shop . Hemingway, for example, evolves significantly over time. I also love that they balance edgy vs wearable, which is key for all fragrances but especially so for vetivers like Hemingway. Great video… as always 😊

      Thank you so much! haha I feel this is true for most perfumes - that you have to wear them. But yes I agree with MM's. Kintsugi was like that for me, for sure.

    Hello Cherie,
    I haven't tried any Masque Milano. Listening you talk about some of the Iris notes in the fragrances had me thinking about a video that Wafts from the Loft did with Sarah McCartney from 4160 Tuesdays London. She let them smell natural orris butter in comparison to a synthetic product and they were shocked at the difference as the synthetic was smooth and less jarring than the natural. The natural had that more challenging earthy smell. I wonder then, that the A'Tessa actually uses the natural more earthy version rather than a purely synthetic one? Carrot seed is supposed to imitate the smell of orris at a more affordable cost and is often paired with orris to enhance it. Anyway, just some thoughts as I was watching your overview of some of the fragrances. - Jenn

      That was such a great video! I love WFTL. I really wanted to get the perfume they did as a collab with 4160 Tuesdays but sadly they couldn’t ship to Oz. Thank you for the reminder of this, I might go rewatch!

    Hi Cherie! What a coincidence that yesterday, I have sampled the entire line available in local Melbourne perfumery and ended up buying Madeleine. It is an amazing house. Thanks for making this video. Cheers🥰

      Madeleine is next on my list to get a sample of I think! I’m definitely developing my taste for gourmands at the moment! X

  • @thehonestperfumereviewer6336

    Great video. Interesting how different we describe these fragrances. To me, Tango is pretty easy to wear but not super unique either. It is beautiful, though! Love it. Don’t own a bottle because I have so many other ambers. I own Lost Alice and I really enjoy it. Just like you, I love iris/orris!

    • @TheTopNote
      @TheTopNote  Рік тому

      Hi Kicki! I have been going through my perfumes lately just studying them and think most of my ambers are very vanilla (literally). Bengale Rouge is probably the most challenging one I had before Tango and I never actually found it to be that challenging. I wonder if it’s the heat that makes it hard for me to wear Tango, it seems to bring out the more animalic hints - I reserve it for the coldest days (which is not that cool here, let’s face it 😂)
      I’m trying to remember if I’ve seen you talk about Panthea Iris? If not definitely recommend trying to sniff that one, it’s a beautiful iris- still one of my faves. Have you ever tried Irisss by Xerjoff? I’m curious about it but too scared to try it as I could never afford it.

    I have Lost Alice and Madeleine. I love both, but totally get why you’re not discussing the latter: it’s a creamy, nutty full-on gourmand IMO. I’ve been to Thailand, and I think you should def bring and test Tango. Can’t think of a better place for that 😉👍🏻

    • @TheTopNote

      I haven’t tried Madeleine yet but I want to! But perhaps by your description Lost Alice is more suited to me anyway. Can’t wait to ‘Tango in Thailand’! 😜

    I'm very much a burgeoning fan of this house. I have Lost Alice and Madeleine, two very different gourmands. Madeleine for me is one of the first sprays of a perfume I will always remember, an instant love. Lost Alice took me a bit longer but one day I sprayed my sample again and realized I needed the bottle. The others you spoke of today will be on my test list...even Times Square!

    When I smell iris flowers I think they smell gourmand. Lost Alice captures that side of iris to me, in a way. I do wish that orris could smell like the flower lol but most of the time it is earthier and not as sweet or velvety. An iris (and ambergris) scent I love even more is Musc des Sables. Just got my bottle this week 🥰

    • @TheTopNote
      @TheTopNote  Рік тому

      Musc de Sables is lovely! I went through a Sample of that earlier this year, and was very tempted to buy a bottle - but was saved by my “no-buy”!

    I got a tiny sample of Kintsugi and also L'Attesa after hearing you talk about Kintsugi. I Though I was going to have to get a bottle but now, maybe not, haha! It started out so great like a chypre at the opening but now 20 minutes later I am smelling an odd smokers breath sort of smell that is borderline unpleasant. I have enjoyed smelling this however but on to L'Attesa tomorrow. I am also an iris/orris perfume lover so it should be a good day. Thank you for your take on these perfumes as I had never tried this house! oxJulia

    • @TheTopNote
      @TheTopNote  Рік тому

      Haha I think that’s the same kind of smell I get from Mitsouko. I can see how this might go a similar way, but luckily it doesn’t get that stale sourness for me. Clearly other people get it though. What did you think of L’Attesa? X

    • @StelmaDesigns
      @StelmaDesigns Рік тому

      @@TheTopNote Interesting you mention Mitsouko as it's my all time holy grail perfume I have worn for almost 40 years! I can't say I smell anything sour in Kintsugi, just a cigarette and saliva smell if that makes sense and it's subtle. It must be a note I am unfamiliar with. I'm going to try again another day. I really like L'Atessa! It's so different from any Iris I own or have smelled. I get a dry papery smell right off but since I only have a dinky 2ml sample I am not getting a true opening I think since it's dab on. It definitely changes on my skin after that and I can't even describe what I am smelling it's just a unique iris. It smells warm to me and softly woody especially in the dry down. I am thinking of going all out and pouring what's left into a small spray vial and wear the rest tomorrow. I agree it's more on the earthy side and to me, all iris perfumes seem slightly aloof and elegant, maybe introverted. This one is like this also to me. I may be getting a bottle of this one if I can find a good price. oxJulia
