Hey everyone! Today we're taking a quick look at the Kiesel Guitars RV69K Roy Vogt signature 6 string bass. This thing features a killer double-P pickup combo, 3 band preamp w/ variable mid freq, and a glorious Dragonburst finish. Let's take this thing for a spin!
Big shout out to my great friend Kevin for sending me this bass. Thank you my friend!
Big thanks to Dom @ ThirdFloorGuitars for setting up my instruments. You can find him at www.thirdfloorguitars.com

You're content is insanely awesome. It is CRIMINAL that you only have 3.2k subs. Keep it up!!!
Thank you Nolan!
It's rough because there arent just as many bass players around.. sick playing
Interesting sound.
Interesting configuration.
(2 split-coils + 6 strings)
Great playing as usual, very informative reviews also when they're focused on very "obscure" models.
Cheers 2u, clawsman!
Jöe
Thanks as always, Jöe!
I gotta say, Lobster-this channel is just so freaking great. I have a blast every time. Bravo!!!!!
Thanks Sam! I'm glad :)
Great playing again ..and to say you don't normally play a 6 string and only had a tinker with it as you say ...you came out with some nice stuff that really brought out the quality of the bass tones ...and as ever informative...I now want that bass
Thanks Andy :)
Great tone and great playing!
Thanks Andy!
Your intonation is so good...
Thanks Steve!
so sick! I’ve got a kiesel zeus multiscale 5 string bass in ferrari red that just doesn’t quit
Awesome sauce!.... awesomesauce ;P
Great playing Lobster! you handle that 6 string quite well, I don't know 6 strings looks very scary to me I would be terrified just to pick it up...Lol
Thank you!
Had to come back for more. I can,t wait to get my hands on this thing. I can, but I can't. Knowuhimsayin?
It's a comin!
I love that you included "just fucking around with a 6" noodling. Reminds me of how I would do handed one of these
Thanks! Yeah I don't know what to do with a 6 haha.. But I try, oh my gawd do I tryyyyyyyy. And I say heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
@@LowEndLobster Disgraceful
Nice job as usual LEL! What a beautiful finish on that bass!- Stay healthy! Brent, VT
Thank you Brent!
Really awesome! This is one of my favourite basses from kiesel/carvin. Great job!!
Thanks Basil! The special surprise after the full review will make you like this even more.
@@LowEndLobster I'm waiting for it, man!! That will be great!!!
Thanks for the Kiesel review, I have never seen one in person but so many respected players use them they have been a curiosity for me. Maybe in the future I’ll grab a 4 string. I’m my older age I have come to appreciate sticking to 4 strings. The bass sounds great though
Thanks Chazz!
Sweet!
Thanks Don :)
I owned a peavey tl6 in the 90s, with the same pickup configuration. It was an awesome bass.
Nice! If you have pics of it and instagram, send em over!
I had a pedulla series II 5 string in that finish. Beautiful bass
Thanks Rich!
👌one fine bass!
Thanks Hudson!
Thinking about getting another sold the one I own a few years back own a lot of five strings now I think I’m ready for one thanks for sharing
Thanks John!
I got a 30 somthin year old dragon! I just picked up a carvin dc400 guitar in dragon burst with a 4A maple cap...om my god is it beautiful.
That double Split Pickup set up reminds a lot of those vintage Peavey TL-6 basses.
Thanks Joe! You're right! I almost pulled the trigger on one of those earlier this year, but resisted hahaha.
@@LowEndLobster if run into one in the future, give in; they’re not making anymore American Peaveys.
Cool! 🦞👍
Wow! Definitely some Clavinet type sparkle to that tone
Thanks Martin! I hear it!
Very nice jaco qoute! I had a 6 during my Primus phase, but eventually sold it due to not playing it anymore. There are times when i do miss that high c for chords.
Thanks James! It's funny, I actually wasn't even using the C string in most of that Three Views rendition. So used to playing it on a 5 ;P.
Oh yes, this is going to be a beast when it returns in the phone booth on the 69th
Gonna start calling this thing Rufus.
@@LowEndLobster YES!
Thats one aggressive slap sound
Indeed! The pickups are very aggressive, I wish they had a passive tone control to mellow em out a bit. Small potatoes though, overall it's a great instrument.
A 6 string p!!! That is crazy
I have only heard good things out of this brand
I want it
:)
I've always been curious about Carvin/Kiesel basses but haven't wanted to take the chance on ordering one. At least when I ordered my Ibanez EHB sight unseen I've already had a lot of experience with Ibanez basses, but I've never touched a Carvin/Keisel let alone even seen one in person. Plus all their bass demos seem to be geared towards metal players and have tons of distortion and effects so you can never get a true sense of how the instrument sounds. I am really looking forward to your full review of this bass!
Thanks Michael! My experience with them is limited as well. My good friend has a Carvin 5 string from a decade and a half ago, and I've played some random used ones throughout my journeys. However, I've never really sat down with one and had an in depth look.
I need that shirt!
:)
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the Kiesel Fingerboard Treatment copyright attempts as well as the well-known cases of Jeff Kiesel personally shaming customers on social media.
Hey Wil! I don't really know anything about that, I usually focus on the instruments. But I will be looking into it!
@@LowEndLobster The copyright attempts are absolutely hilarious. You can pull up the pdf on Google.
And for the other stuff, Jeff Kiesel thinks he's God's gift to guitar. And there are plenty of fanboys to feed that delusion.
Also I would be very interested to know how this bass compares to comparably priced production basses.
It seems just a little odd to me that it would have two identical p-bass type pickups and would have only Master tone and master EQ knobs. It would make more sense, to me, and would provide, I think, a hell of a lot more tonal variety, tonal options, a lot more control, if you were at least given individual tone pots for each pickup, or have two pick ups that are not identical, but are a good matched pair. I was curious to see how the kiesel six string bass and their active preamp sounded and, I'm not blown away but it sounds pretty good
Thanks Metalbass! I agree, the stock config wasn't... the best... Check out my mod video on this bass where we installed two EMG P6 pickups and paired them with a Darkglass preamp :)
ua-cam.com/video/w8xmfaS7iLs/v-deo.html
I see you with the 3 Views of a Secret chord melody. Bass sounds absolutely dirty, in the best way.
Glad you liked that :). I picked that up from the Jaco Big Band tribute album that came out in the mid 2000's - the word is out. Otiel had an awesome intro solo that included the chordy three views. I love it.
i too want it
:D
Alien Audio puts in their Constellation basses two P-bass pickups but the rear one is reversed. Frorm what I heard in videos, it sounds really nice, very close to full size humbuckers. Here I think there is too much treble for my taste. Otherwise, nice looking bass. Sometimes I think about trying 6 string myself.
Ah, I've seen those! I agree with your assessment on the tone here, I wish there was a passive tone control to roll things back a bit.
They have the best finishes
The dragonburst is beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful and absolutely too many fecken strings. I also haven’t seen a kiesel that doesn’t have fanfret before. (For some reason that sentence sounds like I have never used words before. Hopefully you understand it anyway) love everything about it but the 6 string part. Can’t wait to see full review. Thank you for sharing lobster.
Cheers Primo
Thanks Tommy!... I agree ;P. Also, Kiesel has definitely been on a multiscale kick lately. I love Adam Neely's.
@@LowEndLobster indeed. I know told you before, I played guitar for 35+ years and only picked up bass as my “main” instrument only about a year (almost 2) ago. I only play 4 string as of yet, and think it’s perfect, probably because I never got into 7string Guitar. Even If a 6 string bass was tuned like a guitar, it would still feel weird.
I just got my tele (Guitar) back from my brother, who did a full refurbishment of wiring and pup swap and set up. I haven’t picked up a guitar since I switched to bass, and ...WOW how the hell did I ever get my fingers in such a small place???
It seems like a freakin toy. I think I’ll stay on this side of the stage for now on.
Just thought I’d share that story with you. Cheers hope you have a wonderful day buddy.
Haha love the T-shirt! 😁
Thank you :)
Dual P…that guarantees a decent rock&roll tone.
60% of the time it works every time ;P
Nice bass; sounds like a modern P bass. Gorgeous finish; very impressive looking. I owned a Carvin LB76 20 years ago and although it was decent it couldn’t compare to this one
Fit and finish is definitely better than the carvins of the past IMO, though my experience with them is limited. It's a well built and well playing instrument without a doubt.
Sounds great, as always! Between your awesome playing and that clean signal chain, most every bass you play sounds amazing. Is that an Orange Crush 50 or 100 behind you?
Thanks Steve! It's an Orange Crush 50 BXT, purchased it for the solid sound and dedicated line out.
I'm a simple man. I see PP, I press like.
This bass is big PP too
What is the bridge spacing? That doesn't look like 16mm that you'd expect on a 6banger...
16.25
What he said! :P
@@TheBeardofDOOM Huh, looks more spacious... it is a gorgeous beast, to be sure!
These videos are impossible to watch now... I keep having to rewind because I am drawn to that beautiful champagne music man and miss half the review..
Haha thank you! I agree, that bass is quite the looker (and with matching tone to boot!)
Damn, that bass is almost as big as you xD
Haha yes, and I'm 6'2" (well 6'1.5" ;P) and it looks big on me.
@@LowEndLobster Must feel like a monster to play, or more like a massive gun!
@@WildWildWeasel It's instructed that you need to yell "GET TO THE CHOPPAH" before you pick this bass up.
What is the string spacing?
i didnt know vsauce was a bass player
Yer blowin my cover!
I think the slap tone is a little bit too bright for my taste
The pops just take over
The treble in these headphones sound a bit much.
Beautiful bass
Thanks for the video
Thanks Ras! I agree, wish there was a passive tone control to soften up the tone a bit.
aye fam u got a 5 string u dont use that i could have? for free if possible
Sorry dude. Check out Glarry, you can get a 5'er for cheap.
This thing has been for sale online for quite a while right?
I had been making offers on it since the beginning of the year, yes. Finally got it, and we have a nice project in the works!
@@TheBeardofDOOM sweet. I'm glad to finally get to hear what it sounds like. I saw that thing in so many forums and Facebook groups and could never get the seller to make some sound samples. Congrats on that beauty!
You're really going to enjoy the special project! More coming soon :)
@@TheBeardofDOOM So glad you got it, man. Persistence really can pay off.
@@g.matthews500 hell yeah man. We have one hell of a project in store for this thing. Keep an eye out for it. You might want to buy it back when all is done 😁
Wow what the fuck is that I seriously don't know what that is why is this
Jeff Kiesel = Eric Trump of guitar industry
Sorry, just out here stating facts.
I've heard some.... interesting... stories to say the least hahaha
