The buildings were demaged in WWII and the communists instead of restoring elected to tear those down. In case of the Royal Palace which were damaged to a lesser degree instead of proper restoration they added cheap 'fills'. Interior art and other valuable were stolen by the Germans and Soviets.
World War II - American bombing - The remaining German and Hungarian soldiers fled to the castle district because of the siege ring. The Russians therefore fired cannon at them.
The sad thing about this is that the palace, which they are rebuilding, will no longer be available to the public after it is finished, as it will be given over to the President of Hungary. It's quite sad because my mother used to sing with the choir below the dome at the time, and as a child, I went there with my school as part of an arts program. Seeing the dome from the windows so close was such a beautiful experience for me as I was drawing with my class. It is quite sad that other people won't be able to have this experience with the new one anymore. In terms of design, while the new one is understandably more beautiful, the old one, in my opinion, actually looked better in many ways as it reminded me of the elegant buildings in the United Kingdom. I guess good days always have to end here. 😞
In the Castle District, 5 buildings are under construction. 2 of them are already fully finished from the outside! Plus, Building A of the Royal Palace itself has been demolished!
Brilliant to see some of the restored and reconstructed historical buildings in Budapest

@@juz3r1 Thank you, I didn't know the details.
Didn't like my reply? Which part of it? That the Germans stole Hungarian property?
The communists also demolished several buildings in the castle district many years after the war for ideological reasons.
slideshow and AI...is it a high school project? 😊
Thanks for watching 😊
Work smarter, not harder.

The progress on the construction site is breathtakingly slow.
