Notes from the original seeder:
"Got this in a snail mail trade years ago. Sound is reasonably good considering how old it is (I think it's a soundboard but it might be a radio broadcast) and the performance is fascinating, REALLY long versions of some of the tracks. Plus I don't think there are that many live recordings of Herbie with the Mwandishi group in existence, IMHO this was his most groundbreaking period. Enjoy!"

Fantastic to hear this amazing band live, thanks for posting!
I was there!
For me, this was Herbie's most experimental period. It's not surprising. He just came away from a number of years with Miles Davis.

Quasar is one of my favorites always so funky!
Thanks for posting - Hidden Shadows!!!,, has there been Anything Funkier than this tune? I’ve had this melody stuck in my brain since I first heard this in 1972.......
I found that album to be quite esoteric and on the fringes of the fusion period. Among the three Mwandishi albums I rated Sextant my least favorite. Nevertheless a good album.
Sextant is so good. Nowhere else can 19/4 groove so hard, plus the use of the Arp 2600 was just so tasteful - the rhythmic loops are truly captivating. Probably my favorite Herbie release, given it’s ingenuity and overall listenability.
