That cabin was absolutely gorgeous!! I went on a writing retreat for my birthday last year and it was so much fun! 11K added to the draft is crazy progress, and I have no doubt that you will CRUSH that November goal! (I'm on my work computer so just pretend I left a camping emoji here lol)
Ok this cabin is STUNNING!! This looked like such a fun writing retreat! The blowing on cereal was so funny. Congrats on such a high word count weekend!! 🏕
🏕 omg so cute!! everyone doing writing retreats for november (you and alyssa both!) is SO psyching me up for mine in the last weekend of November. Really happy that you got so many words :)
🏕️I love that you shared this. While I was writing, so many other authors would say things like it's unrealistic to just be able to go write in a cabin in the woods. But you made it happen and showed how practical it can be. I mean, the other writers had kids, but it isn't like you stayed there for a week at a time! 💖 Glad you made progress and had some fun at the same time. 🥳
I rarely find a fellow Washingtonian on YT and I'm so glad I found your channel! That cabin looks so amazing and congratulations on crushing your writing goal!
I'm glad you had a great writing retreat! I took my first one last year, and I was so productive. I'm actually leaving today for my writing retreat, and this video was perfect to kick off my trip. I'm excited to try and balance vlogging with writing!
the most comforting & inspiring writing vlog ever 🥹 there is nothing better for the soul than time spent with a friend who shares a passion for your craft, and crafting together. 💛
@ agreed!! I never imagined I’d find friends irl with my same hobbies but now that I do, we have knit & sips nearly every weekend and yarn/book shop & yap. its amazing 💓
My friend organized a writing maraton last saturday for our local writing group and it was soo much fun all writing together the whole day. Glad you enjoyed yours, I will definitely repeat this at some point
🏕️ this is elite 🤩 I love love loveee the idea of a writing retreat and the fact you had a fellow writer and friend with you - actual goals 🥰 congrats on your progress 🎉
🏕 11k words is INCREDIBLE. congrats on a successful writing retreat! this was so fun to watch and I'm feeling so inspired to go write my own project! love your videos 💜
Okay intro!!! You are so creative! 🍂🌲👩💻What a gorgeous spot for a writing retreat. 🏕️ I am absolutely living for the cozy vibes! 15,000 words is HUGE! Way to go Brielle! 🫶🏻
🏕️ omg such a beautiful place to get some words down! I would love to go on a writing retreat… I just need friends who write 😅… but honestly, you did a great job at taking advantage of the time you had! Congrats
🏕🏕🏕 Soo many words! This retreat loks amazing! I envy you, the cabin we get to share with my friends is located in the mountains and it is suitable for only seasonal spring +summer+early autumn stays,.. How I miss it :D
I'm curious to hear how your word count was in the week after your retreat. I have had a few kickass retreats where I'm killing my prior daily word counts, but then I crashed the following week and got almost nothing. Any tips for keeping up the momentum once you get home?
Great question! I had a lot of writing sessions scheduled for the week I got back (livestreams I’m hosting, my writing group) which I’m hoping will help me keep the momentum! I gave myself one day off after the retreat but I’m jumping back in today with my writing group. So if you can schedule sessions to prevent that crash I think that helps! I’m aiming to just get at least 1k per day post-retreat since that was my goal prior.
What I'm noticing, with other writers going easier on themselves and becoming healthier, is that perhaps natural selection took NaNoWriMo out of the equation for us. More than enough things are out there contributing to labor culture. Of course characterization is worth taking the time sink into! 98% of the time it's the glue holding all the other elements together. As Mic just said, having the time for something to be bad is VERY nice. It's possibilities. Then when you get to the 11th hour and have to rip out everything that doesn't work, the pressure doesn't kill you. The writers at Disney who worked on my favorite film (Beauty and the Beast) wasted 2 whole years on a version that was passable, but it kept the juices flowing, and enough structure was in place for the lyricist Howard Ashman to show up and bulldoze useless bits out of the way. It worked because everyone trusted the process, except (ironically, LOL) for Linda Woolverton, the 1 person who got credit for the screenplay. Go figure. The second you said "low-budget horror", my mind jumped straight to It Follows. You know what the scary part is? 10 and a half years have already passed since It Follows premiered at Cannes which means almost a decade going of the memes ... the passage of time is relentless. 14:30 Your "Taking breaks is good" face is priceless. It's pretty much "Windows XP is loading the spiritual contentment file, please don't click off this page".
should've clarified the characterization was more of a subsidiary character so they weren't impacting *too* much of what was going on, hence why it didn't feel as urgent lol, had that been a main character im sure I would have been extra concerned lol (but glad that I sorted it out nonetheless!! definitely made me more confident going forward) but yes!! also love your comment about my 'taking breaks is good' face hahahah sometimes it reallyyyy is the simplest shit that makes the big impact. and yes im so glad I've been able to lower the pressure and sense of crazy urgency on myself this year...it feels so nice to be taking a more chill approach.
You make writing (and life!!) so FUN and ah it just makes me so excited to work on my projects and enjoy this little slice of time we have here on the planet!!! GO BRIELLE! 🏕️
This was so magical! I love what Mic was saying about having the time for things to be bad! When I dedicate a whole day to writing there's time to write a scene where the writing isn't quite flowing and I'm not really liking it, but then you have the time to move on to the next scene and maybe that one is better! 🏕
yesyesyes!!! I agree! it usually takes me like an hour to even get to the point where things are flowing, so I think longer writing sessions are going to become my new standard! such a helpful realization
🏕 oh it would be so easy to switch programs and start writing now but I still need to work for another half hour... why do I keep watching your videos while I'm working?😂
huh, i also haven't just... taken breaks in the middle of writing??? something to try. same with a writing retreat, i'd love to go on a little writing retreat with a few friends of mine, it seems so fun 🏕
