Had to run to the comments to say absolutely no need to overdye the sweater! If you must, then you must. But from an outside perspective it looks beautiful and is truly OOAK. The combination of the color shifts and the texture is really neat - if I didn't know otherwise I absolutely would have believed it was intentional!

I adore the color of your handspun sweater! I hope you keep it as is, it’s truly beautiful and unique.

I think your hand spun sweater is perfect as is. But I love the look of hand dyed yarns, and unique pieces.

Hi Emily, I love your handspun projects. ❤ I think your handspun sweater looks amazing. My first reaction was WOW - the ombre effect is great! It looks both understated and intentional. All the shades are clearly in the same family and go really well together. I hope you love your sweater - whatever you decide to do with it - but I would say leaving it as is, is definitely an option. 😊

I would absolutely just embrace the colors on your handspun sweater, knit it and leave as it is! I think the colors look so cute and it’s kinda an effect you would never get if you would have not handspun the yarn, right? So totally voting for keeping it as is and being proud of yourself for achieving such a cool project :)

I share the same interest in quilting! A maker that stood out to me is Lo and Behold Stitchery. She's got lots of free content and high quality videos that make me feel like it's achievable and approachable. I've been eyeing her "puff quilt" pattern for my first project!

I recommend a quarter inch foot for your sewing machine. Pre-starch all my fabric b4 I cut it (unstarched fabrics like to "wiggle". Also a fatquartershop here on UA-cam helped me learn and improve my quilting skills! Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Honestly I love the handspun sweater! It looks completely handmade and has its own story. If you don’t like it, listen to your gut. But know that it is beautiful on its own!

Yes to quilting- over holidays got some stuff for English paper piecing - mostly thinking small and portable - would also like to do some small traditional quilt projects.

I am into quilting too lately and I don't even know how to sew!! lol your handspun sweater looks beautiful from here! And I was thinking, maybe when you make a yarn purchase you can take a picture of the skein/skeins and make a separate album on your phone...that way you don't necessarily have to track but if you decide to, even later on in the year, it would easier to do so!

Quilting ideas... tools make life easier: cutting mat, rotary cutters,1/4" foot for your sewing machine, cutting and squaring rulers. It's not a huge investment and well worth it. I'm not a yarn collector, I but yarn for each project, but I am a fabric collector. Watch out for that bug 😂

Ok, had to stop the video to tell you that I really like the look of your hand spun sweater! And that is coming from someone who never knits with hand dyed yarn because I can't handle any inconsistencies. But your sweater looks great! The colours are so harmonious. I hope you end up loving it without overdying 🤞🤞🤞

The handspun sweater is pretty. I think you should finish it and over dye it. I think you will wear it more if it more consistent color wise!

I love the way you are approaching goals this year! Sometimes in all the "self improvement" and goal setting rush and idealizing things we can forget to ask to important questions when setting goals. 1: When I achieve this goal, how will I feel? (Will it really make me happy or is it just something I think I should set a goal to). 2: Can I actually see myself doing the work to achieve this goal/ do I want (or can I) to put in the work to achieve this goal?
BTW, I love the handspun sweater and would not overdye it. I think the subtle changes are exactly what is the handpsun charm ;)

I don’t have any concrete advice for your handspun sweater, but just wanted to say that experimenting is SO much of the creative process
So I think you should do whatever your gut says
And ultimately yarn is so forgiving, you could finish it, try wearing it a bit, if you don’t like it, dye it, if you don’t like it once it’s dyed, frog it and reknit alternating skeins or holding with mohair to soften the colours. All that’s to say, don’t feel like you’ve failed because you are in the middle of creating. I’m sure you will end up treasuring your first handspun sweater ❤

How sad would you be if the overdying didn’t work? Personally if I were at a point where something needed to happen I’d frog, isolate the different section to use in alternation with the consistent sections.

With the hand spun - have you got it caked up in a way to let you change balls each row like they suggest with hand dyed? You could rip back and then re knit with alternating rows? Hate myself for suggesting it because working with two balls rather than one is such a pain, and you’ve already knitted so much! But I feel like overdoing it would be a real shame, given how gorgeous the colour is!

LisaR: I hope you don't 🐸 - It's a beautiful knit . I'm not sure about if you'd be happier with over-dyeing . The colors on video look purposeful in the placement . It could be a lot less stress to go for it if you have any leftovers :) Knit up a few small samples and try those first .. Glazing might be a really good choice . It'll help tone stripes down , not cover original colors , It's not a hard one to do , and you'd still have room to dye deeper if not satisfied. ❤Loved your goal discussion;) I just rekindled my quilting interests also :) A great help is a nice spray starch & a great steam iron . Have fun making all the things :))

Have you watched Erica Arndt’s UA-cam channel? She is great at sewing and breaks down quilting.

I also paused the video at the handspun sweater, it's gorgeous....BUT at the end of the day you are the one wearing it, are you happy with it? Are you going to wear it with the striping? Me personally I think the color is beautiful, it's handspun, the colors, though striping, are cohesive and even throughout. You can also accessorize to bring out the darker or lighter tones too tbh.
