Yak خوشگاو | The Largest Animal of Hindu Kush and Himalayan Region

The Yak is a hard and large mammal that lives in mountainous regions of the Himalayan and Hindukush regions of Asia. They are well adapted to living in cold and mountainous areas. Yaks have long shaggy hair that protects them from the cold and helps to keep them warm. They are herbivores feeding on grasses and other plants that grow in their habitat. In most areas, Yaks are used by the local people for the transportation of milk meat, t, and wool. yak milk a high in fat and protein and is often used to make butter and cheese. They are also well known for their strong and sturdy bodies which allow them to carry heavy loads up steep mountainsides with loose rocks.
In Pakistan, Yaks are found in the Himalayan and Hindu kush regions but their major concentration is in Darkut Yasin, upper Phander, and Brogol valleys.

The Yak (Poephagus grunniens) is a large cattle native to Central Asia, it is the second largest living cattle species, the second largest living bovine, and the second largest living bovid in the world, it is the only extant species of the genus Poephagus and the closest living relative of both the European Bison (Bison bonasus) and the American Bison (Bison bison), the scientific name of the yak means "grunting grass-eater" in latin, there are two recognized subspecies of yak: the Himalayan Yak (Poephagus grunniens grunniens) and the Kunlun Shan Yak (Poephagus grunniens kunlunshanensis).
