The effects on Billy of the horrible Parkinson's disease shocked me a bit when I saw him get up to receive the award. I noticed Billy does not blink much now, a symptom of this terrible disease. I adore Billy, and I hope he has many more years left to bring us joy with his comedy.

I know he will. He is not a person who gives up without a fight. He has been through so much. Sad not to see Pamela his wife there with him and his daughters.

+John King The Big yin will leave us gasping for our breath for years to come!
But yes, it is very sad to see him like this.. a man so full of life slowly beginning to feel the effect of Parkinsons.

+John King Yeah, the unblinking stare was the most unnerving thing about it. I assumed it's just an effect of heavy medication against parkinsons though.. In any case, I love this guy and wish him all the support and love he needs.

After I watched this interview with one of my all-time heroes, Mr. Connolly I had tickets to see him at the Hammersmith Apollo - the night after this award. I have always loved Billy's stuff, however, I didn't go to the Apollo. WHY? - I have seen Billy many times from the first time, with The Humblebums, supporting Peter Sarstedt at the Adam Smith Halls, Kirkcaldy, in the early 70s, to the last time I met the legend, in Brighton after his gig at the Brighton Centre. Billy has been a presence at my side always. I didn't go to see Billy at the Apollo because I want to remember the man as he was at his finest. He is and was a fucking legend. He will never be surpassed. Love the man!

+Stewart Nicol as BILLY CONNOLLY I saw him (2014 in Melbourne, Australia) not long after his illness was announced and it was already fairly pronounced. Having seen this interview, I am glad I got to see him before it got too bad - I think I would have done the same as you. It pains me to see that wonder trapped in that frail body. He's still in there though. He's been a big part of my life for almost 20 years. My then-boyfriend introduced me to him and I loved him ever since. I will be very sad when he leaves us.

My favourite comedian. Breaks my heart seeing him so fragile. But his mind still sharp.

The Big Yin......legend, lucky to see him live twice. One at 'Blazers' circa 1980 in Windsor, where I made the mistake of sitting on a front table and leaving mid performance to go to the loo......he said "and where do you think your going" and he got me on the way back as well! uur Billy

I love this man! I'm just glad he got this while alive, rather than after he's gone. It sucks that sometimes legends are awarded after death. He must be ecstatic to have this honor.

When I discovered an old cassette tape belonging to my late Father, little did I know what was on it let alone the affect this man would have on my life. His outlook is the best therapy the world can offer. To laugh is the best form of survival, of getting through stuff. Billy has had some serious issues to face in life, but look at him! He's a shining example of bravery, of courage, of how to live life with the knickers down.
My hero and my idol since I heard Raw Meat for the Balcony all those years ago.
I love him! While it saddens me to see him in decline, his whit is still there. While it saddens me to see him retire, his achievement leaves me dumstruck in amazement. Sir Billy, you are a legend ❤

Sad to see Billy like this. The fixed stare and looking quite frail. Good, though, to see his sense of humour is still evident. How well he deserves this recognition.
