I think I just realized that I tune in to these videos for the commentary even more than the solo. You're getting really good at that part and I hope you keep up this format in the future.
Thanks man! Part of my schtick. Was nervous about it at first (and not very good at it) but I'm getting much more comfortable doing it. Actually enjoy it now.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar I'm also really enjoying those riff tutorials. I don't know how popular those songs really are, but I've barely heard of any of them before you get into them. In my opinion it's so much better than the millionth person teaching how to do Hotel California or Stairway to Heaven.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar And you should. Even on earlier videos, your comments make it entertaining and compelling to watch and you have been getting better and better at it. I wonder why you have (relatively) so few subscribers. I'd like to hear from people who don't find it interesting because I really don't get it.
@@Pedro_MVS_Lima small fish in a very big pond, I guess. I'll keep pumpin' out the videos. It'll hit eventually.
Can't agree more. My favorite one as well. Where was Kelly when I was learning in 1994?.....shredding I guess
Nice one! And what a criminally underrated channel, it's a wonder you don't have more subscribers/viewers.
I'll keep hammering away at it. I have fun doing it. The numbers will come eventually.
David Gilmour's work is one of the main reasons I picked up a guitar in the first place. Still haven't managed to play this solo at anywhere near this level, but some day, hopefully.
Good luck. Keep practicing.
Another excellent commentary...you really explained about soloing.......I learned something from this and really appreciate your commentaries on these videos ! ! ! !
Thanks mate! They're fun and interesting to throw together.
You absolutely nailed that! Tone was spot on, playing was AWESOME... Yet Gilmour's is still in a totally different stratosphere- Just goes to show how incredible he was.
I've been waiting for these solos since you started this list. Awesome job as always!
Never knew about the triple tracking - makes a lot of sense! Awesome feel and tone on these iconic solos!
Comfortably numb, the song, I'm over. Ive just heard it a million times and it's just meh. But that solo I will stop and listen to every single time, always. I'd argue it should be #1 on this list (granted I don't know the exact list you're playing off so I don't know what they have there, but it's almost certainly wrong.). Absolutely a beast of a solo. Killer job of it! Here's to the top!
Thanks man! I for one wouldn't be disappointed if it was number one.
Stairway is probably #1
Been following you since you started. Just have to say you really nailed this. Fantastic progress and a fantastic cover of this great song.
Thanks very much Bork!
Great job on the solo, as always. Keep up the stories as well.. the history and players is just as important as the music we still love. You always come up with a good angle. The production discussion on the tone, triple tracking was good to know as well. Now, if i can only play a solo the exact same way three times in a row. Perhaps Cinnamon Girl.... ;-)
I'd say to make sure that you have your guitar chops well in order before tackling cinnamon girl. It's a workout.
Been here for a while and was super stoked for this one, my absolute favorite solo of all time. Great job! Really enjoyed it
You nailed, even the little details!! Amazing job!
Well done! "The Wall" is my favorite rock guitar record. There are so many great performances in it.
I love it too but it’s a disco album, not a rock record.
@@malibuclassic77 ?????
Agreed. Gilmour's elegance is in a class of its own...and, while "dark side" is their best, "wish" would be my personal fav..."SOYCD" is a perfect example of what you were saying...
Never knew Gilmour was so inspired by BB King, but I guess it makes sense. I read somewhere a long time ago that Gilmour was always upset thinking that he had slow fingers. You did a good job explaining why speed is not the number 1 component to rocking out. Even Freebird, at its breakneck speed, has a big emphasis on phrasing and melody. Something similar might be said about Waters who wrote a ton of great rock lyrics without focusing on sex, drugs, and rock n roll. That whole band was a trip. Great playing, you really got some gnarly riffs in there.
When you really listen closely to Gilmour, it becomes quite obvious that he's channeling BB King in his playing. I never made the connection myself until I read it, and then I compared the two. Different genres of music of course but the influence is undeniable.
I cried during the second solo. Beautiful !!
You know this is genius!!! I love it man!!!!!
Such great solos and you nailed that feel dude. Agree 100% with the commentary about soloing. Having that feel, regardless of patterns or scales used, is of most importance. Killer as always!
Absolutely nailed it. Probably my favorite of all time. Also love love love the black Strat!
I respect and admire Roger and David equally as well. For better for worse they had to part ways but I think both of them and Rick Wright and Nick Mason are all musical geniuses…. they are all my favorites equally
Hard for me to pick a favorite album. They all sort of run neck to neck for me. Including the final cut. But one stand out for me is “division Bell“. Some of Gillmour‘s finest guitar work can be found on this album -as he is in his prime and he pulls out all his arsenal of tricks. Marooned, great day for freedom, poles apart, coming back to life -almost all of the songs have beautiful solos and guitar work- I agree Roger Waters is a brilliant songwriter. I love his “venomous“ vocals! Which is why I love the final cut and his solo albums “amused to death“ and “is this the life reward really want. “ You gotta admit Roger Waters is an activist and he has a message and he stays true to it which I admire… very outspoken individual and I respect that greatly. But no doubt Gilmour has the soothing voice and the soaring guitar
Man i don't know how i missed this. But you know this is why i started guitar in 2018. Same guy , same band same reasons. You have nailed this video....you are doing awesome work my friend. Awesome presence and hope to be as great one day!!! Hats off my friend!
Ok yeah you nailed it. I figured you would. Good job. And the video graphics took it next level!
Thanks man! Starting to learn my way around a video editor. Fun stuff. Just don't want to overdo it.
Nice touch with the hammers... great job, and sounded perfect!
Beautifully done Kelly. Best on UA-cam besides Gilmore himself. Cheers, David
You're very kind, thanks!
Dude, I love your videos. Relatively beginner and the info you provide with these solos, as well the joy of hearing them is super rad. Thanks.
Thanks man! Appreciate it very much.
amazing
For me this is the greatest solo ever written and you did an amazing job! Absolutely incredible!
I've seen what the next three solos are but I don't think this can be beaten in my opinion... We'll see what you make of them! Thanks for all the work you've done so far, it's been amazing
Dude i always knew this was a very good solo but when you played it it just gave me chills
Thanks Jeff!
I really appreciate you for taking the time to do these, amazing job💪🏻
Amazing Kelly.....loved this one....actually listened to it three times!
Mom! Thanks, haha.
❤❤❤damn! Gilmour would be proud ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ KDA IS AWESOME
David Gilmour's solo "Into the Blue" album from 2006 has got the right amount of bendy guitar tones and Gilmour vocals. You should check it out if you haven't heard it in a while. Great job on the solo as usual.
Brilliant 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You gave the chiils man. Chills.
Fabulous once again Kelly. We’re spoilt with your playing and this solo sums everything up. We kinda expect brilliance from you each time, and without fail you deliver! TailSaber mentions he’s never been able to nail this solo like you have. I say watch you again and again, and eventually, he will. I thought “Intro” by Steve Hunter would be forever beyond my capabilities, and watching you do it the first time, my jaw hit the floor! I play it daily now for practice as it includes virtually everything (bends, slides, vibrato, runs etc). Thanks to you, I’m almost there. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Robert! Appreciate that very much. That Steve Hunter solo is fantastic. Glad you got it down. Really fun to play. Keep at it man.
Kelly Dean Allen Guitar .....thanks Kelly, will do. It’s the chromatic run down and back up in the high register that’s my stumbling block. Will keep at it though!
cool man very nice
awesome man
love this series!
Awesome as usual, looking forward to the last 3+1 to go.
Right around 4:40-4:45 of your commentary the video/audio does something weird... like a messed up edit or something. Watched it 3 time so I don’t think it’s a lag on my end.
I have no idea what happened there. Computer glitch or something. I uploaded before I noticed but it's not a huge issue so I left it.
just posted a version myself of this a few days ago its probably the most covered solo ever , and rightly so
Really good! thank you!
amazing commentary dude.
Thanks very much!
Dark Side of the Moon is my favourite Pink Floyd album! And you gave a shout out to Zakk Wylde, one of my favourite guitarists too! Nice!
Another great job!
Great job, this is my favorite solo of all time. If you want to go even further, try learning the Pulse version. The second solo is almost 5 minutes long, every note is perfectly placed, i honestly don't know how Gilmour is so damn good, its not fair :D
don't know what exact spot it is, but I know stairway is coming up soon and I'm very excited, both to hear you play and the commentary on it. Great playing here too though, I remember you saying that you wanted to get better at bending and vibrato until the point where you've mastered it, and imo you're very well on your way, this sounded very clean
You should have mentioned that Richard Wright also sang a lot of Pink Floyd songs. Wright sang the choruses on "Us and Them" as well.
About the panning audio to left and right... I’m fully deaf in my right ear and have about 40% hearing in my left, so I don’t get to experience those things as well, I just listen in mono audio. But the music still sounds great to me, I just wish I could have that feeling of one part going in my left ear and another in my right
AWESOME, came here from Reddit🤘
David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. He inspired me to play guitar and is one of my biggest influences.. like you said it's all about the feel and legato.. BTW, the first solo in comfortably numb he is not playing a minor pentatonic 90%. He's in the key of D Major and not using the D major pentatonic scale 90%. He's literally outlining and playing the notes of the D, A, G, and C chords. Using bends and the legato and at the right times in the chord progression that makes him one of the best ever. Second solo, he's in B Minor and using the pentatonic alot more but he's outlining the B Minor chord alot as well. He's not a 95% pentatonic guy. Not at all
I'm going to be disappointed when this series is over. Still, hopefully we'll get to see you take on some more solos that didn't make it onto the list afterwards
I'm thinking of putting together a top 50 or 25 list of the most underrated/underappreciated solos of all time and playing my way through that. Might be fun.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar Good idea! I'd like to see that
Kelly Dean Allen Guitar Take my upvote and times by a thousand. That would be a great series. I’d vote for a top 50 but that’s just me being greedy.
🙏🙏🙏
As usual you nailed the solo. I also agree that Gilmor was the better singer, but Wish You Were Here is my favorite Floyd album though Dark Side is a very close second. This solo is amazing I still prefer the Time solo, though that could be because Time is my favorite Floyd song. Thank you for sharing your passion with us and it is inspiring watching you get better with each video; on a side note I really liked the video and audio additions you added on this video.
Hey Justin, thanks man! Nice of you to say. Shine on you crazy diamond is one of my absolute favorites from wish you were here. I hope nobody gets the impression that I don't like those albums. I absolutely love them. Just not as much as dark side of the moon.
Kelly Dean Allen Guitar I did not mean to imply that I took offense to your preferred album. My intention was just to throw my two cents into the conversation. I do think that WYWH is my favorite because all parts of Shine on You Crazy Diamond as the way all the instruments compliment each other and trade off leads is simply masterclass.
KDA, if you could do a cover/lesson of the comfortably numb solo from the 1980 live album Is there anybody out there it would be much appreciated!!
What backing track did you use for this Kelly? I'm currently learning the second solo and am going to do my own recording soon, but I can't find a backing track that seamlessly goes from the first solo to the second one like the one you used does.
I edited it myself in my DAW.
Great job, again. I have to go with Animals as my fave PF album and def Gilmour over Waters if for no other reason Waters is a POS in every aspect of life outside of his music.
Animals is the best Floyd album. This is the way.
It's an incredible album for sure. Must do the solo to Dogs at some point.
That one dislike is Roger himself
Please do a tutorial for these two solos. I’ve really struggled to find a good, accurate version.
Doing it tonight. Will be up tomorrow i think.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar I was just going to ask this!!! I want to learn it!
loved this solo, I've also subscribed let me know what you think of my cover
great.off topic.can u do a lesson by a cat steven --don't br shy>?
Fantastic! Well played and nice tone, very similar to the original one. Wise words: as a guitarist, the deeper you get into studying the instrument, the harmony, scales and positions, the more it’s risky because if you’re not able to master those notions, you will lose simplicity and immediacy. When you play you don’t have to think, but to play. The pentatonic scale is the answer: simple and easy to play, but mixing it with all the other techniques (bend, legato, hammer on, pull off, vibrato) it become the most expressive scale.
Dark Side is also my fav.Pink Floyd LP, well balanced between music and lyrics.
If you want, listen to my Dark Side of the Moon 10 Minutes Version ua-cam.com/video/be8AK760Ows/v-deo.html Keep on keepin’on! 👋 Ciao!

I cannot believe stairway to heaven is number 1.
Such an overrated song.
Concerning lyrics, Neil Peart would like a word. Awesome job as usual!
Oh yeah, haha, forgot him. Me being Canadian and all, and a big Rush fan.
