    Dude this awesome. You're my hero! I have a 2000 SC Buick Regal and I am going to replace the SC with a turbo and I am going to push that little 3800 to it's limits. Given that the block is designed very similar to the Buick Stage 2 race block. Thus far the only issue cropping up with this block is with too much boost the head gaskets leak and the heads need to be fire ringed. Good luck and please keep keep us posted.

    Are you planning on going with aftermarket rods, some forged ones? I meant to say in my other post, with forged pistons, rods and a good tune I have yet to see a 3800 block give up. I am pretty sure this block would be in the high 7's if the aftermarket support was there.

    Pretty cool. Sourcing parts for a NA Miata with turbo l36 power plant. T5 out of the F body puts the shifter just about where it needs to be. It fits the tunnel with no hammering. And doesn’t make so much torque that’s I have to worry about the rear end. Just need to add a brace and it’s good to go.

      How'd that turn out?

    • @jgetscensored7837
      @jgetscensored7837 Рік тому

      @@hakujyan still just a bunch of parts collecting dust in the garage. Being a dad and being in the military get in the way of building stuff. But I went the supercharger route as it’s cheaper and easier with this engine.

    • @hakujyan
      @hakujyan Рік тому

      Okay I feel you on that. I have a miata and I'm getting a F body 3.8, don't know if I'll swap the miata but it's cool that things fit

    • @jgetscensored7837
      @jgetscensored7837 Рік тому

      @@hakujyan yea, the no fabrication approach is what really sells it for me. If you can bolt parts on, you can build it.
      The Miata power plant does have its limits, mainly in the rear end. They sell reinforcement for it but you can also directly bolt in an rx7 rear and end they’re quite a bit stronger.
      The transmission is good for any realistic amount of power the 3.8 is going to throw at it, so long as you upgrade the clutch.
      And the engine almost seems like it was supposed to go in there. I’ve heard guys use the factory sub frame and just drill holes to accept the 3.8 mounts, but even if it doesn’t work out, there’s plenty of universal cradles for the Miata and they’re pretty cheap.

    • @morboost4224

      Honestly I didn’t know about grand nationals till I was neck deep in this project. My inspiration was my friends in their silverados drifting around and I couldn’t get sideways with my lack of decent power and open diff. Now it’s opened up a whole world of opportunity and I love doing this stuff but it all started very small, I wasn’t grown up around hot rods and shops like a lot of the guys out there. However now I like the grand national a lot and I do go on grand national forums sometimes to see how those guys approach things that the guys with the later 3.8’s haven’t even touched the surface of yet

    My question is since you threw a rod & the block is toast ,we're are you going to find a block that will bolt up to the TH400,?
    The early blocks from the 76~80 that were in the Buick sky Hawk had different transmission patterns and the starter was on the passenger side of the block . But GM modified the 3.8, 231so many times so now can you transfer a series lll block into the camera.?
    I think about this problem so many times because the starter could interfer with the cluch pivot and linkage on manual apps unless you get a hydraulic clutch . And will your TH400 simply bolt up to the 3800 series lll?
    It would be cool to see you fit that supercharger into the camaro body and mod the hood for cowl induction similar to the 70~72 Chevelles .Or fab up bug catcher slot at the base of the center of the windshield right where there's that high pressure compression zone.
    Believe me, I've thought about building a 07 GTP with rear wheel drive .Kinda like the 87 buick GNx,but without the turbo .hey if you could find a good 87 grand prix diner car and cut out the transmission tunnel sheet metal with the complete cowl and floor boards,yup that would be a lot of work and fun to see you work your way through the complications. But the potential fun factor would be outrageous. That's why the 67~69 cameras where great .You could un bolt the sub frame and put it on slider rails to move the complete engine to and frow for clearances checking.
    But I like to see you young men tackle these creative ideas.

    • @morboost4224
      @morboost4224  Рік тому

      Series 2 and 3 blocks are identical as far as bore size, deck height, etc. I’ve had both series 2 and 3 blocks in this car. you should be able to swap parts over no problem. Series 2 parts will hold 450hp or so for quite some time but much over that you need series 3 internals or aftermarket parts. The stock series 3 is commonly pushed around 600hp or so. Built bottom ends usually don’t live long above 700hp, have seen a few well over 1000hp but they don’t live long. That’s just too much hp per cubic inch at that point. It’s like making 1500hp with a 350 Chevy. It can be done but don’t expect it to live long up there
