You Don't Drive An Alpine A110, You Wear It

  • We've been lucky over the years to have had the chance to not only see a few Alpine A110s in the metal, but to actually drive them. As an office we've had this saying for a while that "you don't really drive an A110, you wear it." It's somewhat of a running joke that has been tough to describe to outsiders. Any time the marque or model was mentioned, that phrase would come out and we'd all chuckle. That was until we decided to make a short film, the latest in our "Morning Coffee" series about what that experience is like.
The cockpit is so intimate, so snug, so perfectly purpose built that it's akin to applying a wetsuit to yourself to go surfing. There's a certain ritual to the way you have to prepare to get in the car, to turn the key in the ignition, the whole thing is just so personal.
This one is owned by our friend Jürgen Clauss, the man behind AlpineLab: “Sometimes, when stepping into my garage, and looking at my cars, I am surprised that it is already 30 years and the Alpine hasn’t worn out yet,” he explains from his German workshop that specializes in these small French sports cars. “I still like to look, drive, and work on these cars every day,” he says, “To me, it was always unique, always something special; you even had to have certain ergonomic prerequisites to drive an Alpine.”
You can visit Jürgen’s website to learn more about what he's up to at alpinelab.de

I completely disagree... I did not enjoy this video as I do all others. The story each owner has is just as interesting as the cars them self's. Also too much camera shake.

I agree with Stefen and Samuel. The reason I love this channel is the stories that owner has about the car. Its not a channel about cars its a channel about loving cars. The Admirals Ferrari and Building a dream Ferrari are the peak of that kind of video. I would love to see more like those two.

Interesting. This was a different style film for you guys. Although it was good, it wasn't my favorite. I prefer the more intimate picture of the car you traditionally paint. Static close ups, sexy pans, and following shots. This felt less about the Alpine and more about the sound, the road, or the driving experience in general. The car felt like a supporting element of a film rather than it's focus. None of this is bad, I just really love to see the car front and center.
This is just a personal opinion. NEVER stop doing what you're doing. Petrolicious is what pulled me into UA-cam as my main source for automotive consumption. Thank you!

Agree that I'd like to get a better close up of the car to really appreciate the styling & details and was thinking the same as you. Vid description makes a big point about the car experience, so I'll assume they took the film in that direction. Great roads and sounds though. Need to Google this car.......

There isn't a walk around or even a single stationary shot of the vehicle. I basically just watched a four minute video of a car and still don't have an opinion on how it looks because it was never really shown. I want to see the car, not just get an impression of it.

    • @jeremiahthawley

well...I got goosebumps multiple times during this video, and I think Petrolicious aimed for that kind of audience with this video, which is, essence of cars because you DRIVE them, you dont look at them. We all love the looks and all (that is mostly why we choose a certain car for ourselves), but passion truly lies in driving them and feeling it :)

Just read a few comments and I think some are missing the point. This wasnt meant to be a story about a car and driver. This was a short film. It could have been an extended ad for an up coming movie about Alpine, a watch advert, maybe even an ad for the gloves. Its doesnt really matter as it was just really cool, and very exciting. We all come here for what we know and love BUT its great to see the crew at Petrol do something fun. I'm a fan.

The style is great but it didn't leave a lot, if any, room for showing the car in detail. These videos seem effortless because so much work went into them so it's a shame that they didn't devide more time to show more of the car than just clips of the car passing by. This must have taken them many many hours to film and edit.
