    For straight-out-of-the-camera video, I really like the "Vivid" color profile, which exaggerates R, B and G.

    Thanks for the review, very informative. I have this Drone and I love it. I stayed in beginner mode for about two hours of flight. took it off and I have to say it was awesome. I Flew today in pretty stiff wind, was amazingly stable. 5 stars For autel x star Premium.

    I love how you stress flying with care and responsibility. It would be great if this was practiced religiously. Especially with these powerful drones and any drone as a matter of fact. Thank for sharing, I will definitely consider this product when I learn to fly better. Thanks!!!

      Yeah, It will be awhile. I just purchased the Hubsan H502E and turned around and ordered the H502S because I enjoyed the E and I wanted FPV so I ordered the S. Just starting out in this new hobby and I enjoyed it. Thanks for reply and keep up the good work.

    Excellent review and tips. In addition to extra batteries, an overlooked safety feature is using prop guards - I see too few on drones. I know there is a 'rule' about not flying farther than you can see the drone, but come on, who's going to stay in the playground and not explore the limits? I had a Hubsan H501s that did not record, so it's on way back to Banggood, China, and you will find dozens of videos here about modding the range. Stock it gets maybe 500m, and with mods up to 2400m or 1.5 miles. Now who isn't going to do that? What's cool is the 5.8GHz FPV that you can receive with cheap goggles like Eachine for $80, and fly like you're actually the onboard pilot. But I have yet to see such mods for the XStar. Parabolic antenna boosters, maybe a cloverleaf for the drone, could get it to 2 or 3 miles. Suddenly your playground is huge. This is my next drone. Cool video, thanks.

    I love my Autel X-Star , one huge mistake I made was that I did buy extra batteries. The problem I have is that I am in South Africa and importing the battery make so expensive. Wish I had someone coming to South Africa so that I could save on shipping and import duties. Thanks for a awesome video. Love this Drone

    Great video! A caution to DJI fliers.. This drone will not stop as quickly as the P4 or the Inspire One Pro! I'm not sure of the technical reason but those drones seem to have natural, "brakes," and this one does not. Give it some room to slow down and stop after releasing the forward stick.

    I was just checking in. Bought the X-Star premium last week. First drone ever. Been looking at other models and nothing came close to this price wise and features. Still learning the ropes. Recorded some videos and snapped some pictures. I have not yet reviewed any of it. I'm still on beginner mode, and now I see why I didn't get the range I expected. Great video!

    Thoughtful, accurate review! DJI's obstacle avoidance doesn't always work... You won't know when it's not going to work until you hit something. I personally prefer flying w/o it -- it keeps you sharper. Autel's blog makes key point. Over confidence is the cause of most crashes. You do more than you are capable of doing. When you try something new for the 1st time, you don't quite make it...just ask me! Autel's drone is very rugged, I've crashed mine 3 times, and each time it (somehow) survived.

    Love the dog dude. I have owned 3 Phantoms and sold them all for this beast. It is fantastic. i hit a volcanic cliff face at 3/4 throttle. Totally my fault. it still flies perfectly but did need a new shell, the old one could have stayed on but hell....it's just money right.

    • @GenieDeez
      @GenieDeez  7 років тому +1

      Daaaaang, a volcanic cliff?! Man you're serious. Lmao. I'm increasingly surprised at how durable this thing is. By the way, would be awesome to see the footage of the volcano crash. I hope you were rolling

    • @angelocincotta2988
      @angelocincotta2988 7 років тому +2

      well its like this mate.... when i had the bird at mack speed heading back to me, I turned around to see exactly where I was in relation to the cliff face, by the time I saw the cliff face it was the usual reaction one has when they know ur about to have an accident. I tightened up waiting for the impact and in that moment, my finger pressed the stop record button. I totally stuffed it up. I didn't realize that while flying around I kept walking closer and closer to the wall and by the time I saw it...BANG it was all over. If it was my phantom doing that, I would have given it a seaside burial. You stay safe my friend.

    Great vid, Genie. Like someone else mentioned, Kudos to the dog - ha. I came to the XSP from the Phantom 2 Vision, and there's no comparison. But, to be fair, the P2V is waaaay old technology. I'm still getting used to flying to the point where I can still hear it, but can't see it. 2500 feet is the farthest so far, but the video is rock solid so I can see where I'm going, just not with my naked eye. Recently did my first over-water flight. Nail biting at first, but got used to it. I just LOVE this bird!

Same wires you pointed out. The batteries look like the ones I had on my P3P.I wonder if Autel bought out some of DJI Molds for making this drone.I like the machine and it's on my to buy list!Thanks again,JT

    Nice features. I've been flying and building drones for three years. My biggest problem on my builds is flight time. I also like the drones to be 250mm sized. Basically, the DJI Mavic is as close to the perfect drone for me. I wish there was competition there..

    ..nice! Good to see alternatives to DJI. They make good drones but am not keen on their marketing. Picked up a Xiaomi Mi 4k for $429. They have some firmware issues but mines been great. Getting a Spark as not too much out there that does as well in such a small form factor. Wish it had 4k and a 3 axis gimbal. It would be worth paying extra $$...Thanks

    After filming or flying can you send it to someone email right from your iPad , or phone whichever one you're using or do you have to take the SD card and I'll put it in the holder put it in the computer and do all that long process...thanks Dennis

    • @GenieDeez
      @GenieDeez  7 років тому

      Dennis Reif Doable, yes. But the file would probably be too large to send email without Google Drive or something.
      From the tablet attached to the remote controller, you can download the video from the drone onto your device. Once it's downloaded, you can send however you like.
      Sometimes it takes a while to download, so what I've done is take the microSD out of the drone, put it in my tablet, then download to the device.
      But to answer your question, yes it's possible to transmit the file without removing the SD card, but it would take substantially longer.

      Dennis Reif Overall I'm very satisfied...especially because of the removable camera and opportunity to swap out and upgrade later. The drone flies pretty damn fast and stable. Looks best during the day or at Magic Hour. The 4k camera it comes with isn't great at night, but I don't fly much at night anyway

    I have a few questions:
    1. What's the bitrate of the highest quality 4k files?
    2. Can you film with it in hand (without the propellers spinning), a.k.a just as a GoPro on a gimbal?
    3. Can you turn it off in flight? (usable when you are in a boat and you can't really land it on land so you grab it from the air and you switch it off)

    • @kenhaley4
      @kenhaley4 7 років тому

      1. 4K frame rate is 30 fps. (Is that what you meant by bitrate?)
      2. Yes. I've tested the camera in the house that way. But it has to stay attached to the drone.
      3. Yes. I've tried that too (but not in a boat). Once you grab it, hold the left stick at 6 o'clock (to descend) until the propellers stop. It's hard to hold upright that way one-handed, so be careful as it loses lift and falls sideways in your hand.

    • @ToastedSynapseGaming
      @ToastedSynapseGaming 7 років тому

      Thank you for the reply. However, by Bitrate I mean actual bitrate. Right click any video file and go to properties -> Video Bitrate

      Genie Deez I really need lessons, lol, but I'm really enjoying it. Having issues uploading to Google drive or Google photos, no matter what setting I video in, they want upload. Any suggestions? Using a galaxy S7 edge and a galaxy Tab S

      Ok, I notice that my video setting was set MOV, so I set it to MP4. BUT I have at least 12 videos on the MOV file, downloaded an app called Media converter which does convert the file. But for some reason I can't find the files the movies are in within that app, it doesn't access it

    Very informative review, sir! Would you recommend this quadcopter for a beginner, with absolutely no experience?

    • @kenhaley4
      @kenhaley4 7 років тому

      I'm an absolute beginner. This is the drone I chose. I love it. You won't crash unless you get careless. Watch for obstacles (especially power lines and things you don't see at first), dont go too fast, high, etc., and you'll be fine. One thing I like is that if you just let go of the controls, it stops and hovers. (But I imagine most drones do that).

    Nice video but I'm still considering the dji mav because of the smaller foot print and the crash avoidance.

    What's the camera used to shoot this video? It keeps focusing perfectly.

    Thinking about using this from a boat on a lake. New to the drone world. Curious about getting it back. Will it return to remote? Hard to land on slow moving boat?

    You might want to remove your gimbal guard BEFORE you turn on the drone. The camera needs to be free so when its turned on it can do its positioning acclimation process. You could inadvertently ruin your gimbal. Just an FYI. I own the same drone. I paid a little more than you but i got the carry case, 4 batteries, and extra prop guards. Happy Flying. Drone on! And dont forget to register your drone.

      Thanks Mark! I'm shooting this with a Canon 80D and a Tokina 11-16 lens. I'm doing a video next week on all my favorite lenses, so watch out for that!
