As an army combat veteran with 7 deployments 31B, no civilian law enforcement background. I have 2 sons one who is a marine and he’s mentioned the adrenaline rush many times to me. The being around my unit and knowing everyone had my 6 was the most difficult thing to adjust to after my last deployment and becoming a civilian

Just starting this interview, but funny observation. Within first few minutes, learned he's in Vegas. Thought, "wow...looks like he's from NY". Then, he says he's from Queens. Yup... Makes sense.
I love this interview best ever, I learned a few lessons from this and I will use them in every day life. Especially teaching people I’m a drug worker now and people need to learn from my experiences 💯

I’m glad Christopher mentioned mental health after Ian’s point of view on the homeless guy that’s down and out. More often than not they’re suffering from a mental illness Mr. Bick, not just refusing to start from the bottom.

Great interview; and what that officer writes in his report has more weight than anything else he/she says or does!
i used to work as a newborn photographer in the hospital. sometimes the baby didn’t make it. we were still required to go in and take photos of the baby if the family was okay with that. my studio would send the images on a thumb drive and it would be free of charge. so it IS NORMAL to take photos of a stillborn birth or if the baby doesn’t make it. now putting the photos on the wall… I don’t know about that. but the act of taking photos is normal, those photos end up being all you have of your baby once you leave hospital

A normal cop. This retired cop treated people like shit. Now that he's written a book, now he was to apologize to people that he treated wrong. Plus he wants to have compassion and respect for people. He said that " He use to run plates and the plate comes back clean he would turn his lights on to see if they would run." A woman lost her brother and he's sitting here talking about her cheap dress. Are you serious? I could go on.

I think someone who doesn’t s homeless first and foremost need housing to be able to hold down a job, where do u eat, sleep, rest in between shifts, where do u bathe?? Being able to work a job and hold down one can be the difference to someone being able to climb their way out of homelessness & not. So looking down on someone because they can’t work isn’t ok, cuz they don’t have the means to keep that job, only in rare cases could anyone climb their fucking way out of that hole!! Opportunity, & compassion are what the better half of homeless people need!

Good people make good cops....good people who are military make better cops. Military guys have the advantage of being responsible for others, being responsible for multi million dollar equipment, are able to abide my the rules of engagement ect....all while being 18 to 22 yrs old. ..nothing beats experience amd on the job training in all corners of the world and dealing with different cultures
Much respect and he is very intelligent - love the philosophy references❤. Buuut, get the sense he had some domestic issues/ crime early on that he tries to over shadow with his self-proclaimed humble attitude.
He talks about relating to humans in an arrest as an actual human , which is so rare in the police world and love that he sees someone as a person who has a life, identity, etc. He is very smart and obviously has skills that are valued in this business (law enforc, street crime, undercover narco, etcetc). Also, having any history with the law will help you down the line since you know how shit works and may have connections.
Military experience helps in 2 ways - getting out of a speeding ticket for example (speaking from observed experience) as well as invite recruitment from ski shops (iykyk...😅)
in general will allow you to enter a "company" aka feds, or the actual leadership groups of other countries... iykyk again lol..regardless of some of their history - which may be if you are one of those who can be skilled in a specific arena. Underlying narcissism is needed in this role of course, just like any other risky or sensitive job, but i am not hating (and have deep knowledge of these things with connections so not a random karen LOL) and appreciate the way in which he speaks, we need more of that. Guarantee you he has done some bad ass shit not many could do.
As a female, we always have to "judge" someone and read body language similar to how he describes in his work and its really based on natural survival instincts (plus stereotypes which are important to be aware but without taking action unless a real active danger exists.
Question for all - have any comment on the search and seizure mention early on (when he talked about 3 topics civs should know about)- I could be wrong but I interpreted what he said as basically as long as the cop can articulate why their suspicious then it's legal
Also, the story of the guy who woulda shanked him in the cop car. Damn.

Not sure where the comment went but I agree with the comment that said this guy really did lose it at 57 minutes. I liked hearing his perspective as a cop on things prior to this point. Then his personal views came in that shows his “human “ side and how he probably shows bias in his actions. Just saying.

Yea and when he started saying race or ethnicity don't matter... problems with race and police aside, every industry/workplace/etc, race and different ethnic backgrounds to some degree have an influence, even if its only a small amount and very few people. I'm not sure about the comparison with a guy buying a woman drinks and them hooking up, with him paying her for sex, because even after having had the drinks, the woman is still able to say no, morally and practically speaking, where as when being straight forwardly paid for sex, it's the man having transactional access to her body, compared to the buying of drinks being more akin to 'a wooing process'.
