I replaced mine awhile back and the security light still kicks on once In awhile and I did the programming part and it was fine but it is still doing the same stuff any advice?? It would really help me thank you in advance
My son is having an issue where his car just died on him while driving his 02 Grand Am. I suspect the ignition switch as I've replaced the fuel relay, fuel filter, checked for fuel pressure, replaced alternator and belt. Even tried a different ECM and still no start. He has an aftermarket stereo in there and you made a comment about what looked like an original stereo in your video. Was your comment only about locking out an original stereo or does the factory stereo somehow work as a "pass through" for other things such as the ignition switch as it relates to starting the vehicle? Any advice would be welcomed even if it's just that you are not sure etc. Thank you and I like your video it's well done.
I have a JVC stereo system instead of a GM stereo system installed in my car. Is it possible to get the old ignition switch or a new ignition switch to work installed in there if I have something like a JVC stereo system installed & hooked up instead of the GM stereo system?
a new issue started for me. my key broke so I used a spare, since using a spare my instrument cluster wont work for about 30 seconds as well as my window or any power accessory buttons. im not sure if its my key or if something is going on. I have hid lights and use a relay for the daytime running lights. usually my lights turn on automatically when its dark but now I have to wait a while until something gets recognize. any help here would be appreciated thanks.
This is a classic issue of a bad bcm, also know as" body control module " . In the grand am usually they fail due to water getting in through the winshield into the dash causing corrosion in the connectors or pins of the bcm. . Its located on pass side under dash
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong I can't find the little hole so I can get the switch out... Every single day this switch is getting worse and now it's starting to lock up... There has to be an easy way to find this little hole
A strange thing happened to me on my 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. I swapped out the ignition switch and the car starts up just fine, but the security light remains solid all the time. I have no idea why the security light is staying on even though I can start it up and drive it around town.
You have to reach in the back of the cubby under the temp controlls and there room tor it your hand back then and you just pull at least that what I did
Travis Schulz I ended finding a video where a guy gave the key a good hard tap with a hammer and then it allowed the key to rotate. I then was able to change it out. I'll attempt to find the video...
Would you please let me know what I can do if the key is not turning in the ignition switch. Can i still buy a used one and replace it on my Pontiac grand am 01?

Depending on your cars factory options a replacement may require computer programming.

Did u replace with new or used lock ?
U swapped out the ignition switch and you are still using the sam ignition lock ? I think the better question is why did u swap the switch ?
@@mramericanmuscle40 - To clarify, it's actually the ignition lock/cylinder I replaced, not the ignition switch.
How'd you get the cover off the radio? 😮

So what do I do if my key won't rotate? It is stuck in the "off" position.
Joshua Payton same thing here on an 04

alternator not charging on pontiac grand am
WHAT CAUSES WHEN I TURN ON MY SWITCH TO CRANK PONTIAC GRAND AM & IT BLOWS A FUSE UNDER THE HOOD THAT SAYS IGNITINON SWITCH SOON AS U TURN IT IT BLOWS
More importantly, what’s up with those Skittles?
They make it look so easy I've been trying for three days to find this little hole and I can't...
U must have a curved pick . If you can't see or feel the hole remove your stereo you can see it from the stereo din opening

+Michael Fowler I don't think anybody knows the answer short of towing it to the dealer or locksmith......
+aracp all you need to do is go to the local dealer for that kind of car and give them id and registration and they will make you a key for under 15$
+Michael Fowler Thanks man
+aracp not a problem!
96 grand am that sticks on the base of the steering wheel...
