:0 Craig McCracken blew me away this time. Where is the hype!? That meditation ending scene was dragon ball and steven universe on god mode. Craig may have made my childhood but the adult me needed this story. It spoke to me more than marvel or anything. Totally cliche in a brand new way. 10/10 changed my life and cured my receding hairline.
Powerpuff is by far his most famous work, but he's also created 3 other spectacular shows that aren't as well known. In my opinion Craig deserves more name recognition in general, he's a true icon
@the hevy And hasn't the name of the Powerpuff Girls been dragged through the mud as of recent? You know, with the reboot and the attempt at live action.
finally watched this and loved it so much!! the interviewer's passion is so relatable, there was such an exciting energy all around! this was a great insight into both the showrunning & thematic elements of the show :-D
Craig McCracken is one of the cartooniest cartoonists out there. His shows have all been about things that kids usually find interesting; Powerpuff Girls had superheroes, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends had... well, imaginary friends, and Wander Over Yonder had aliens. Kid Cosmic is also about superheroes, but more on the comic book/illustrated novel-side. They also added more aliens into the mix, making it feel like a combination of PPG and WOY (Papa G even has Wander’s color scheme and a similar looking hat).
I still havent seen Calvin and Hobbes mentioned, but that's the vibe the design gives me. Kid is a Spiff the Spaceman in a way. The shot of him getting up from bed even looks like a reference to Calvin's appearence.
27:59 That's something I'm trying to do as well, ... probably some other creators will do it more in the near future as well. because it is sorely missed in today's industry.
Just finished Kid Cosmic. Not gonna lie, been ignoring it as a recommendation then one of my fav animation UA-camrs praised it. Couldn't stop watching. It was so good! I love what he said about Superman too. Why is so hard to conceive of someone with power who chooses to help not hurt? There seems to be this idea power has to mean overpowering others. And the essence of heroism is not being that.
What really stood out to me in this was that Craig wasn't aware of what certain tropes are called, but rather asks what needs to happen in the story. That's how you do good writing! I've worked as a ghostwriter for places that churn out books that demand you follow The Hero's Journey format without ever allowing writers the freedom that comes from asking basic questions: What's the main tension of the story? What do we learn about the characters/world/etc. from this section? How do we get from this point to this point? What are the obstacles and how do we get around them (or what keeps them from getting around the obstacle)? You're not supposed to grab a trope and shove it in the story without thought, that's how you get bad stories! Tropes are just P A T T E R N S we have noticed. If you write literally anything inevitably someone will find a trope for it.
I’m here from the future! In another interview Craig did, he said the reason he made the show shorter than Netflix wanted it to be was because he wanted to make sure he got to tell the whole story without getting cancelled before he had a chance like Wander Over Yonder did. Well he literally predicted the future because Netflix just lost a ton of subscribers and cancelled pretty much all of their in house animated series. If this show hadn’t finished last month it might not have made it lol, as far as we know it was THIS close to being cancelled at the last minute.
I'm really happy. I watched all episode of this show. It is really different in a fun way. And definitely. One of the best thing he has ever made. Wonderful.😄👏👏
Can you tell Craig Mic cracked to make a four season of kid cosmic where everybody gets their cosmic Stones back and then George's new phone to fight and it's the government again the old one
Mr Maccracken, you are a terrifying man to makes this film too dark for kid instead, I've seen the plot where an alien stuck out his middle finger at them and the creepiest part where alien is out of space are dead in space and the little green guy said about taken over the flargin earth is kind of a bit opposite swearing and weird.

Craig is an underappreciated legend, I hope the show does as well as it deserves

I saw Kid Cosmic and Craig you did an awesome job with this series. Will there be a Season 2 someday?
I think so since they added that last cliffhanger when the characters are in space.

This was a very enjoyable and insightful interview. Thanks for it. However, I wish there was spoiler warning before watching this.

It's not that dark
There are worse. Craig struck a balance. Kids do not need to be protected and cradled too much. A little darkness is healthy.
Stick with disney if you're that scared of the darkness of reality.
