- Well I don't know about you, but I thought that race was about to be incredibly boring. As it turned out I couldn't have been more wrong! Contact between the leading pair giving my watch time some hope this weekend. Here are all my opinions of the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix!

Max made contact, got a puncture, limped around the track, made an extra pit stop, got a 10 second penalty, and STILL finished 17 and a Haas seconds ahead of Perez.

Red Bull are gonna struggle with the constructors championship I reckon.
He's hands down the worst driver in the grid rn. You could put Sargent in that car and he'd do leagues better

@@sebololiver It's hard to say that at this point. Perez is barely in the points half the time. In a Red Bull. Albon and Gasly got sacked for less.
Perez being 17 seconds behind verstappen after everything that happened has to be one of the most diabolical performance in F1 history.
Without the crash I believe he would have lapped Checo.

Could be worse, could be Charles Leclerc. His 11th place finish not only means, he misses the opportunity to possibly throw himself back into the Drivers title race. But it means despite EVERYTHING that happened to Verstappen and Perez, Red Bull still increased their lead in the Constructors (by a single point yes, but this was and should been a huge opportunity for Ferrari to potentially greatly close the gap to Red Bull in the Constructors).
Perez started 8th and finished 7th. Leclerc started 6th and finished 11th. He genuinely had a worst GP than Checo
The best part of the race was Hans Zimmer on the podium. He seemed happier than everyone.

@@jeti_0674 it was unneccesary , lando should have gotten the 5 secons penalty earlier for track limits , so max could relax a bit and max only drove him off the road because his rear tyre fell off. the car wouldnt stear into the corner because the back was only going one way
@@dennisozgan2200 Kinda irrelevant who drove whom off the track AFTER the contact already happened, and it was Max at fault no questions there, he drove into Lando. I am a Max fan but he really fucked up this time. Guess after couple of years of cruising he got a little rusty, similar thing happened to Lewis in 2021 when he suddenly found Max hounding him and at first looked shocked.

I wanna see them racing hard (obviously Max cant tell the difference between hard and illegal but hopefully he'll watch Sky's short learner videos on the basics of F1 - more specifically, how to defend in F1.

I think most people voted before the crash since it was within the last 10 laps and Norris was doing well before the crash.

Just to be fair to Checo, at one point Max was also complaining about HAASes sitting on his rear wing. Checo sucks for sure, but fair is fair, he fucks up enough on his own, no need to pile on when even Max didnt just drove away from them.

Schumacher intentionally wrote another driver off and got band for the rest of season and stripped of points. In 2021 he intentionally drove into Hamilton in silverstone on the straight prior to the big accident. Then crashed on purpose into Hamilton in monza before break testing him in Jeddah both of these incidences could have killed Hamilton if it was not for the halo and quick reaction from Hamilton. Verstappen will kill somebody eventually.

Honestly they spent four laps riling each other up, this seemed a bit inevitable. Did make the race interesting though, so there's that.
The Sky commentators forgot that Lando had a time penalty for racetrack limits violations that was yet to be applied. Max could,have let Lando passed and kept within 5(?) seconds or used the DRS to release Lando.I
They also missed that Alonso took fastest lap on the,last lap denying Max.
THe hills are alive with the sound of raging Lando fans, and the Dutch having their usual party.

Honestly that crash made this the best race of the entire season so far. Instead of a boring Max - Norris 1 - 2, we got a George win, Oscar P2 and Carlos P3: objectively the better ending. Plus a boat load of drama. This kind of drama and contact-happy racing is what F1 used to be like and I welcome its return. Now we just need FP1Will and RocketPoweredMohawk to get on the commentary together.

Verstappen seems to be one of a long line of drivers who has such exceptional talent that it hurts to watch them drive like a douche whenever someone gets close to them when they could probably just win on merit.
and yet these same people, who bash Max on every chance they get, revere Senna and Schumacher; both weren't all that nice and sportsmanslike to their competitors either. Schumacher liked to drive off his competitors on multiple occasions when he was about to lose to the other driver.....that said; Max, but also Lando ( because imo both had fault), drove like a douche.
I love how everyone just forgets that before Ferrari decided to be Ferrari in 2022, Leclerc was more than enough of a challenge for Verstappen, without being stupid about it. As for Norris and his statements post race...welcome to the big leagues bro, this is how it is. This is a competition and points count.
Perez didn't also finish behind Hulkenberg, his teammate drove a lap on 3 wheels, took another pit stop, received 10 sec penalty and after all that still was classified 17 seconds in front of him

Since it has been overlooked slightly I do think Russell and Mercedes deserve credit for their mid season comeback. A few races ago the prospect of Mercedes winning a race seemed laughable, now it is not only possible, but has happened. Yes Russell was lucky with Max and Lando's collision, but he had to be in the position to capitalise in the first place. He is establishing himself as the Mercedes A-Driver and if Mercedes are able to continue their improvements into 2025, then maybe, just maybe, he might be in with a shot at the title.

It almost seemed Max had grown out of being a total prick in wheel to wheel racing. But no he just had a faster car and didn't need to be. Still, it's shouldn't surprise that he will even be a dick to a good friend.
I tought the Max/Lando crash was kinda funny because of how predictable it was. Lando kept sending it and Max avoided crashes, to make up for it, Max took them both out on the one attempt that made sense (as Lando would have gotten the DRS for the following straight, his divebombs would have given DRS to Max).
I'm not even sure if Lando had severe damage from the initial contact, it kinda looked like his car was fine for a bit while Max' tyre was gone immediately.
Personally, I'm fine with the outcome... but I tought the constructeur's title would be closer.

About the Lance Stroll contract thing, they were actually joking on Austrian TV about how the negotiations might have been like, with Lance‘s dad being team principal and such. I also think we will get a few „unfortunate retirements“ at either Red Bull or McLaren.

He is actually not that consistent, he has these nasty outliers - often early in the season - where he gets on the podium. Weird, but it happens.
If Horner didn't keep Jos out of the car, his reaction should've been something like:
_"Yeah, I have no idea where he got that. I never said a word about him and the car to anyone. Why would I care if he drives it?_
_He should ask the person that told him that why they made up some bullshit."_
But it wasn't.
