After failing to get one in the mint que... i was shocked to get one at my local post office! which i find strange that they even had one in ao early.. but not xomplaining. i also purchased another one at a fair price (aprox 340) on ebay where even just the poppy is selling for hundreds. still waiting on the mail. good video.
WOW Peter, nice pick up at the post office. The one that i usually ask at wasn't getting any in. The secondary market price has really settled down under the $400 mark in such a short time.
Hey Philly, relatively short wait for your set compared to my 6 hrs 🤔😖 but was worth it . Got 20 rolls the other day 10 were King Charlie 🙄 NAB Machine . I’ll be sending some to subscribers that can’t get hold of them 😬 Cheers mate 🙏🏼💪🏼😬CCC
You may have pulled the trigger a bit early I think there will be a lot of them around. I hope you get a really nice example of one. That would make it worth while in the long run as they begin to age and get cut up.
The coins look very nice in uncirculated condition. I think the set was a bit dear but still tried to get it unsuccessfully as usual. I have been doing the rounds of the banks over here but have not seen the charlie coins yet.
Well congratulations there Phil on your $2 set. 👏 A changeover and a coronation would have been nice. The eternal flame doesn't really do it for me but I'm not a $2 guy. Big ups Carl in the UK! 👏 NAB told me that they're not putting Charlies in the machines and that they're "selling" them (exchanging them) over the counter. Nice to have a man on the money after all these years. Just love it.
Hi Tim, Yes, it was weird that it wasn't a full replication, But i don think that i mind that much. The Corro would have been nice as a re strike. I'm Sure that there will be more KCIII that i can poke a stick at soon enough.
Peter, I heard a similar amount with a clarification that 3.4mil would be released during this December If that is the case i would have thought that we would have been flooded with new coins. So far all i have seen is significant hoarding of rolls. unless they withdraw some of the old coins in the southern states i think that they will be mostly released in the west and the north. Queensland always seems to need more $1's in circulation than any other state recently.
Thanks Send, I also feel sorry for some of our overseas collectors. They would have to be very lucky to get a chance at these for release price. No wonder the bots and flippers target our new releases. I don't know of another country that go so wild for these kinds of coins.
Well done excellent effort,I have recently received a 35 years royal australian mint set by luck, was wondering how or what guard house sleeves can I buy to protect this magic set Regards Timothy hill
Well done Timothy, It really does depend on how you are looking to display them. There's really three choices paper two by two flips, capsules, and Storage grade flips Coin capsules can make a nice display but you need somewhere to put those into as well. From what I can see Guardhouse makes storage solutions for US currency so the sizes that they offer may not fit our $2 coin perfectly. When I buy capsules for the $2 coin I buy the 21 mm capsules as the $2 coin is 20.5 mm in diameter. When I buy paper flips, I buy the 23 mm display hole as it gives the best look when stapled closed. The storage Grade flips pretty much only come in the two by two format. There are lots of reputable companies out there that will sell numismatic storage solutions.
Congrats on your presentation and picking up the 35th Anniversary $2 coin set Phil, interesting selection of $2 coins that made the cut, I have to wonder if the coins that didn't make the cut are going to be offered by RAM in some other commemorative format in the future, it just seems to me that over the past 2 years RAM, Aussie Post and Woollies are saturating the market with a huge array of commemorative coins, medallions, PNC's, badges, etc. more as a money making exercise given the poor quality of some of the coin releases, it's true you don't have to collect everything, but I just feel some of the enjoyment is disappearing for genuine collectors due to so many profiteers out there, I'm just not convinced that I can justify the release price of $235 when you can pick up the original coins for much less than this if you put the red poppy to one side and certainly not the absurd after market prices, same applies for the QEIII commemorative 50c coin, given the relative high mintage of these coin sets I just don't understand where they are relative to purchase limit restrictions of 1 per person, just the thoughts of a disillusioned but passionate coin collector & noodler. Cheers Peter J 🤔🙏👍
It is very disheartening knowing your chances of getting a new release are slim. Being a longtime collector who can remember when you could get most releases you wanted only makes it worse.
Thanks Peter J Yes, i agree with what you are saying. Profiteering by the public. Overproduction for profit by the RAM and a bit of misunderstanding/misinformation in the general public who are newer collectors. All add up to a tough time for long time collectors. To me it almost feels like the mid 80's again when the RAM increased production and oversaturated the market which then collapsed.
Glad we are on the same page, I forgot to mention all the hyped up media attention and untruths that is misleading the uninformed and driving prices to absurd levels 🤔😪🤐
Nice mint set Phil. Grosey Coin Hunts does have some very nice coins in his livestreams, I have a feeling your new King Charles III $1 coins & our Salmon 50 Pence's might very common finds for a while, though I've not heard of anyone finding a full bag of 50p's yet as like the 28 I found in a £50 5-bag (100 coins) hunt from a local post-office were mixed in with 2020's from the Royal Mint's long store.
Thanks Christopher. There is a rumour that the rolls we are getting will be a mix of unreleased Mob Of Roo's from 2020 to 2022. we will see when i start to get loads of them.
Congrats on getting the coin set mate. I'm not holding much hope on getting one myself but that's life. Thanks for the video mate 👍🏻. They are really nice sets. Cheers. 😊😊
Hey Phil, from what I've seen and heard, the quality of those $2 coins in the set in regards to scratches is not very good. Somewhat disappointing. Are yours scratched out of curiosity? Those king Charles coins will start taking over now. 😅 Brings a new meaning to the saying " cash is king "
You are correct, i hope i see more than KCIII in the machines. Thay make for pretty boring hunts. I have a few coins with some dings on the Obverse, All of the Reverses are in very nice condition though.
Nice review Phil but the set is Missing the 2013 Coronation, 2016 Changeover, 2018 Armistice, 2019 Repatriation, 2019 Police Remembrance, 2020 End of WWII, 2021 Aboriginal Flag & 2023 50th anniversary of Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War! Interestingly T. Dean, the designer of the 2017 mosaic didn’t give approval for the 2018 Armistice and the 2020 End of WWII that he also designed. A. Ball the designer approved the Frontline workers coin but not the 2019 100 years of repatriation and 2019 Police?
Hi Ivan, Thanks, Yes, without approval, no release. Maybe they were only asked to approve those. I would expect that a restrike of only 35k would be pretty costly in Die's and paint tech.
Collecting RAM releases has become something of a rat race these days so I’m not surprised that some collectors have opted to collect less popular categories of coins.less stressful!

I think the 35th anniversary set is disappointing. Imagine waiting in a queue that long at the mint and paying a premium for a few sheets of cardboard. The packaging looks plain, flimsy and cheap. Also there is no mention of what each coin represents. Glad I didn’t get one. The mint should have instead waited until the 40th anniversary as that is more of a milestone not 35. Just my opinion.
Thanks Luke. Presentation of the RAM product has been in decline for a few years unfortunately. But the packaging for the 30th anniversary wasn't much different so i held no real expectations of an uplift.
I considered trying to get the 2018 set to compliment this one. But given that the coins are packaged pretty much the same, im not interested in paying over $800 for 12 coins

Hi CCC
I was shocked when I learned the extent of the queue at the RAM in Canberra,
But your dedication of a 6 hour wait is pretty crazy.
A very beautiful set Phil, congratulations on getting one!
Many thanks!
