    Great vid. Supports what Jamie Hughes says in his method feeder master class. He says he's caught with un-baited hook inside. Tried this last weekend with 2" length & 4mm pellet on my local based on that & definitely got much improved hooking rate once fish had found feeder. When feeding was strong tried bait out of feeder with 2" & hooking dropped off immediately, then back to on top & got better, and at bottom was back to best.

    I have been fishing for 40 years but only started method feeder fishing this year. I am really surprised that most people don't know this method for loading method feeders. I have been doing this straight off the bat. Was just common sense to me, and hook up rates are high. Good video all the same.

    I tried this for the first time yesterday Joe. It works a treat, my catch rate has instantly improved. I didn't miss a bite, or lose any fish all afternoon. Infact bites were unmissable, (and I had a lot of them) wrenching the tip around, and every fish of my superb mixed bag was hooked in the bottom lip. Never again will I revert back to the old way, of putting the baited hook into the mould first, so the hook bait can be seen. This way has revolutionised my method/hybrid fishing. The trouble is, I'm keeping this a secret, I want to keep this trick to gain an edge.

    Love fishing the method. Thanks for the tip. Of course you could increase your chance of hooking up more. You've got two routes. Maybe Preston could help us all out.
    I think you could get a artificial bait manufacturer (like Enterprise) to produce a neutrally buoyant or wafter type plastic bait that looks like a clump of 4mm or micro pellets, or get someone like Sonubaits to make a hookbait that looks like a little clump of micros. That way even it does slide off of the feeder it still "matches the hatch".

    A great video thank you. I have not tried method feeding yet in my 6 months or so fishing experience. I went to the tackle shop yesterday and purchased two feeders and some long life sticky pellets for a session at one of my local fisheries today.
    I have 3 rods set up and use one at a time, the first one had maggots on. I never got any bites on at all so I switched to another rod where I could use either bread or worms, i tried it with bread at first and still no bites. I then banded a lob worm on and caught two decent sized carp then nothing at all.
    I got the rod with the banjo xr on and cast it only a short distance then sat down and waited in anticipation. I did not have to wait long before it struck off across the lake. I caught my first carp on a banjo. Then it was none stop for an hour or so each time hooking a fish. I did loose a few which is probably due to my inexperience with carp but nevertheless had a great day fishing on a cold windy day late in October which I put down to this great video.

    This has been a very refreshing watch! I’ve said for years that when fishing a feeder fancy hookbaits are completely irrelevant and if I’m using pellet in the feeder, I use a pellet on the hook…..granted it usually has to be a 6mm cus a 2mm is kinda difficult to lassoo 😂
    But, as you’ve said and found, the fish are coming for the pellet, not for a single, fancy coloured or flavoured hook bait that costs 10x more than your standard pellet.
    In fairness I’ve usually placed my hook bait mid way in the feeder, and had excellent success (but bear in mind that’s a pellet on my hook, not something different, so even if it did slip occasionally off to the side by an inch, the fish were still seeking it because it’s a pellet!)
    Having watched this tho I’m def gunna give it a go loading the hook bait even lower and in the base of the feeder.
    Great video to watch, well worth the effort you put in to create it for your own benefit and everyone else’s! 👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Great system. As an out and out Pike angler, I thought I would take on some of my match angler colleagues who say I have not got the finesse to catch anything without teeth!! The match men turned up with more tackle than Angling Direct and Fishing Republic put together - pole, rods, barrows brollies, I used one rod - Shakespeare BORON 13' match rod, 6llb line , with a size 16 banded 3" hook length which landed me a 15llb carp and loads of bream and skimmers. Not bad for an old country boy.

    Very interesting. Now the question is, why would you like to use a contrasting hook bait (color, presentation, smell and taste) if the fish is interested in the pellet in the first place. Wouldn't it make more sense to use the same kind of pellet (bigger?) as the hook bait?

    • @jeffm9326
      @jeffm9326 2 роки тому

      Absolutely right. The carp are after the pellets so give them what they want. If I'm using 2 mm pellets a 6mm goes in the band. There's very little diference between the two so the hook pellet gets sucked up with the rest. I use the cheapest pellets as well, why use branded ones, the fish are happy with the cheap ones.

  • @hopingowen

    Great video Joe, and thanks for sharing your findings.
    I might be wrong but after the 'guru' underwater films. the Carp dont seem to go solely for the 'hook baits' they get hooked because the bait/hook is amongst the pellets or there abouts. So would it be better to 'match the hatch' and put a pellet on the hook. So is it worth it trying so many different colored hook baits and flavourings ?🤔

    • @stewmercer800
      @stewmercer800 Рік тому

      A wafter would make the pellets explode more from the feeder... leaving your hook length a more probable chance of being nowhere near the feeder. In my opinion.
