The cool scenes that you used to open with that originally attracted me to the channel! Don't back down guy, keep doing your thing. Eventually the others in the matrix will find you.
hit the nail on the head. this sucks for gaming channels like mine, it only wants me to do whatever got views and if I change games the views fall off a cliff, algorithm suppression is real. it seems you have to make a new channel for every idea that comes to mind and never change topics if you want to grow...what a shame. That Matrix skit at the end was awesome 😄😄

Ironically, it was difficult to find an accurate video on this topic....Im so frustrated with UA-cams shit algorithm. Millions of videos, but can only show me 12 channels Ive watched before, if that. Good vid. Watched till the end... and subscribed to you :-) Your production values are off the scale. But seriously... the UA-cam algorithm is complete nonsense. There no guarantee of anything with it. Even if you made content that is on the nose of what it wants... theres no guarantees with it. I've been making UA-cam content of different varieties since UA-cam began. In that time... a hand full of my videos have popped in terms of views. No particularly good reason. Those videos have got lots of likes / comments etc. Proving that the videos are good if presented to an audience... but if they don't... well they just don't. i have stopped thinking about it.... almost completely. Hence me watching this video :-)
Dude, only you Americans earn money, in other countries the income is 2 times less, if not even less. Then I have another question, what should be the algorithm promoting the video? Let's say there is a guy who uploaded a video, who should see it first of all?
I'm not sure you watched this video properly. But firstly, I'm not american and I'm not based in america, I'm a New Zealander.... so not sure what the point was, but it's redundant. And who should see an uploaded video first of all? People who have subscribed to the channel of the uploader - that would be a good start. The algorithm doesn't work this way.
Censorship of what? Because removing all that anti-science bunk and bigoted tripe was a great thing of the platform. Are innocent creators getting caught in the misfire from this bad content?

My channel is going nowhere and I know why -- I'm a perfect example of a creator with multiple ̶p̶e̶r̶s̶o̶n̶a̶l̶i̶t̶i̶e̶s̶ interests and, though I try to stay focussed, I have to wander at least a little to avoid boredom and burnout. While those wanderings produce my best content they also drag down "engagement." It doesn't matter if retention and other signals are positive; the algorithm suppresses them. I hope this comment doesn't attract the content police.😀
Haha absolutely Raymond, I want to see people try different things we all need to wander down those new paths to stay energised with the content creation grind.
Video is informative, you are a charismatic gentleman and the content is substantive. Ergo 1000 total views is the correct push the algorithm should give you on this. I've recently had my most popular video get close to a millions views (SirBalz. Not this channel) multiple flaws with it as I've been growing in multiple areas. So naturally my new ones with far more investment and skill got 1k and a a recent whopping 4k! It's the best creator I just wanna give up formula they could come up with. Random astronomical success to regular non-explained total failure I do the promoting for the video as well, so as to give youtube a little hint. Getting posts with a link to the video in the comments to occasionally reach between 1k to 50k upvotes on reddit as well as 1k to 3k on facebook, some with articles on gaming magazines linking to the video itself. If I'm lucky all those factors in unison will bring in enough views to make it to 10k maybe 20k. All on my end, and that is the end though after 48 hours the video is just some relique to be found only by the most spelunky of users on the platform. Sorry for the rant 😂 Just got all this flowing in my head from a lot of what you mentioned here. And spectacular hollywood-esc sketch at the end. Sorry to be harsh, because I do like a lot of your stuff.... But you still have non-blackmagic videos that do well. Have you considered some of your content is just not compelling to your existing audience? You released a whole bunch of vlogs in a row, and while you may think they were really good it did tell me about them and I really had no interest in watching them. Looking through your channel and the views it doesn't look like all your BMCC videos did amazing, and then suddenly all your videos fell of the second you stopped making videos about BMCC. Your MacBook, Manual Focus, PP vs DR, iPhone, Red One, Dehancer, and other videos all did well. You likely just lost a lot of audience by releasing a bunch of videos in a row they didn't want to watch. It also seems you may not really understand your audience. Looking at the videos that do well, it seems the majority of your views come from people who are researching products, and some from more technical camera basics (how do I rig out a camera?, how do I manually focus?, etc.). Just because they're things related to filmmaking doesn't necessarily mean they want to watch a video about you winning a filmmaking award, or one about your creative process. With all that being said, you can still experiment with new types of videos, but maybe releasing 10 in a row without knowing if people will like that style is not the best way to go about it.
Totally valid point mate, and in fact I did have a whole other section dedicated to some of the other 'Niche's' my Videos have prospered in(which I trimmed out). What I can say is most of the Pocket videos did well, and there was consistent growth with most of them the same with Mac and Edit software vids, whenever I covered more diverse filmmaking topics it was very inconsistent and they never had the same algorithmic up-tick that those two topics did, not just talking about the Vlogs. But thats kind of my point, if my audience is not 'filmmakers' or those interested in 'filmmaking' and if the people who watch are not even a true audience who enjoy my style, but simply 'people who want product analysis', that's pretty stifling. And I think that's how channels get generic. But I would suggest judging by many of the other comments here on the vid, my analysis has merit. But I respect this take, it just doesn't fill me with a desire to try and make new product videos.
@@thesavagefilmmaker You're absolutely right in saying that is how a lot of channels become generic; they're chasing the easy views. But I don't necessarily think that's the only way to grow a channel. The thing with that audience is that, while it's much easier initially to get views from someone searching "how to do this thing" or "Product X", it's not a very sticky audience; views on one video don't really translate to views on your next. What you really want to do is grow your core audience; people that will watch a video because YOU put it out, not just because it's a topic they're searching. This audience is much harder and slower to grow since you're relying on it actively being served up in their recommended videos rather than passively capturing people searching the topic (not a lot of people searching for "film festival in amsterdam vlog"). Your core audience is likely still growing, but it can be hard to see that with such variance in view count on your videos. I know I said I wasn't really interested in your vlog series, but asides from that I watch most videos you put out because I know it's good quality content. Keep going with your content and I'm pretty confident you'll eventually start seeing the results you want. tl;dr don't let the non-sticky audience obfuscate the growth of your core adience.

This is true! I’m subbed to your channel and I rarely get ur vids presented to me and of course I never hit the notification bell on any subscription
They think you're not really interested, damnit. But of course we all avoid the notification bell at all costs!
Mans creativity destroyed by YT. Talk about Mr Beast and what he does on his videos within an upload of purposeful content and your social media presence and all other social media and that'e part of the key. Plus he may have afliates links that push his content too. Personally I thumb down his content as I'm not a follower of his, so just to let the algor I'm not intrested, so don't show again. Plus I'm human and like to change my thoughts because I hate compliance. Hence never going to school and leaving with no qulifications and and running my own business for 20 years. Personally, I couldn't give a Fly Truck If any one finds any content of mine, as it's siloed deep in some 286 pc burried deep within the earths core.I'm setting atrend of 20 billion Negative Subs. The more negativity I get the more attention I get.I clicked the like button twice for your cANNEL TO HELP YOU OUT. sUBED, THEN UN-SUBED. Trouble is your too big for them to handle, so they can't handle your great content as an Indi Film Maker. Here's something to cheer you up. ua-cam.com/video/qY6nHu1GdHQ/v-deo.html. I typed into search film makers nz and your face ins't there or your not in search.
Haha 'Mans Creativity destroyed by YT' should definitely have been my title. Damn not even in a NZ filmmakers search... maybe on page 5! Thanks for that lovely little Cooke interlude.
I could help you get on to page one as a film maker as I make lightweight websites and beat heavy content management ones. I think your wasting time on YT as your trying too many avenues and your skills are varied. Perhaps do the neich thing and website. Perhaps focus on being found with a website and earn more money as a film maker that way.
