The scraper simply wanted more sheep upholstery as it was very fond of the newly added sheepskin steering wheel cozy. Seat cover and a dash cover. It was so close.
I have been around the dirt moving industry for more yrs than i care to count and i can't remember seeing a detroit engine that didn't leak oil. The saying was if it ain't leaking it's out of oil.
Runnnnn Forest, runnnnnnnn! It would've been so much easier on Forest if whoever was shooting the video at 3:41 at the steering wheel and empty seat would have just climbed in the cab and stopped it...lol.
Well I take my hat off to the young lad who magaged to get BOTH of the engines in this ts24 going then lift the bowl then put the trans into gear. Hahaha, Well done
Why was the pan not down on the ground when it was parked??? Why didn't the guy just hit the brake & stop the machine??? Pulling wires won't do SHIT!!! Why didn't he put the machine in neutral??? The TS24 has everything right in front of your hose!!! Nothing is in Abrabic or Russian...ENGLISH everything is in ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How do I know??? I operated scraper for over 20 years!!!!
How thay got the throttle wide open was interesting. You pull the accelerator UP and the diesel will stop! And they were spring loaded to idle. Sounds like a crank. I've operated 14's and 24's and they both operate the same way.The transmissions are air shifted so they have to run a while to built up pressure and there is a seperate foot throttle for each engine. What they need is a job running one. They won't last long.
There are many detroits which were painted yellow...but, in fairness, this could be a re-power also...many Terex scrapers were repowered with Cat and Cummins units
My question is how would a group of boys figure how to start a scraper, put it in gear, release the air brakes while riding on it without considering how they were going to steer it. Lucky they didn't get hurt when they stuck their hands and arms inside the engine compartment as the machine was going. A 5,000 plus RPM belt won't care if your fingers are in the way, neither will a hot engine block or the clutch.
I was referring to the TS-24 had a flat tire. Apparently to stop the scraper they did something to the valve stem to let the air out. The machine was mechanical throttle and it was just sitting there in gear at a fast idle.
Most scrapers in the 70's and 80's, were running air operated throttles, as well as air brakes(thought you'd like to know) - Cat and Terexes both had them...
We had 2 of these... seemed you had to push pretty hard on the pedal to get it to go. I can see how they could get the bowl up, but the brakes off and in gear and reved up to move... and yes they are very slopply machines, I can't keep the on a 16 foot wide road! They are all gone to the blast furnace now!
For now the beast of Sanford lay dormant. Leaving it with no master or commander. One day, legend says a man in a hat shall control its power and unearth a near by field.
I vaguely remember seeing this episode as a kid.I used to watch 999 under my parents supervision quite often. Watching it now I was listening more than looking so I might hear the scraper's engine in between the talking.I saw that the engine was painted yellow at the beginning and thought it might have been a Detroit Diesel even then. Then at certain points during the film I thought I heard the distinctive sound of a 2 stroke DD.I didn't just imagine that did I?
6v53/6v71 DD ... not sure but there was one up front and one at the back pushing !!! I bet now if those boys talked about it now , they would still get nicked .. obviously if they were albayneon then they would be given an operators license immediately 🙄 🤣
I am an auto technician but, I put an ignition switch on a front loader... I tried it to make sure the engine turned and it fired immediately. I had no idea of the controls and would have to driven it into a tree to stop it if it were in gear. I was so surprised that I panniced and pulled bat terminals and then cut all of the wires to the switch.... then I saw a lever that said 'stop'..... pushed it.... it stopped. It was attached to an air flow restriction.... duh. IDK about runaway. MAD PROPS
He would have run it till it ran out of fuel? Haha, good luck with that. Those old Detroit two-stroke diesel engines can literally over-rev and run away themselves if the fuel rack gets frozen, and they will run with or without fuel. The only way to kill the motor then is to plug the air intake up.
Impossible. Even a 2 stroke engine needs fuel of some kind, even in the instance of a broken turbo seal leaking oil into the intake, the oil acts as the fuel. Otherwise, without any form of fuel, it would be considered a perpetual motion engine, which is physically impossible. Think twice before posting such nonsense
That must make them the cheapest diesel ever made and extremely popular with buyers. I can hear the salesman saying " sir this machine doesn't need diesel, except to start it"
When my dad was a kid his dad had an old station wagon in their backyard and his dad told him if he got it running he can have it. So he got some of his older friends to help him just get it running and it took 3-4 months but once he got it running, it was blowing smoke everywhere and stalling but he got some books and put them in the seat and he got in and he drove the car onto the road and actually got a few miles before the cops stopped him and took him back to his dad and his dad grounded h
Eh... maybe... it wouldn't live forever, but I've been part of a motor 'bricking' or two... our record was a little over 20 minutes on a 300 Ford I6 wide open.
And i thought it was going to be a video of an actual Detroit running away. On those terex double barrels all you had to do was pull back on the pedal to kill it.
TS24 used to drive a TS40 much larger. Who left the key in the ignition? Brakes lock on until air pressure is at safe level controls top lever lifts bowl kids would pull this just for laughs it will move with no air pressure up. So lets say kids bang it in gear and it has no air brake it being a oldie it will have no brake.. Scrapers are a pig to keep in a straight line and this thing is bouncing so round in circles we go. Starting the back engine that never happened Walt Disney
Shoot the opposite side of the engine with the turbo, I've yet to see an internal combustion engine run for more then a minute or 2 without oil, I don't acre what kind of engine it is.
Those kids needed a damn strong telling off. And made to pay for the damage caused from their pocket money for the next, oh I dunno, thousand years or so...
hahaha "i did a bit of cross country running for the force so i had a bit of experience there" yeah, takes a lot of training to run across an open field.
The way I see it, if you can catch up with the machine jump up on the back and crawl over the top to the cab. I mean it's logical because if you fall trying to jump on, you don't get run over.
In the 1970's we did have one run up against a D9G running... with a flat tire... the kids managed to make it move...
I thought this was a video of a detroit running away and coming undone lol
My question is,how did they know how to raise bowl, release the brakes and put it in to gear?????????
The scraper simply wanted more sheep upholstery as it was very fond of the newly added sheepskin steering wheel cozy. Seat cover and a dash cover. It was so close.
if the enigne is at full throttle it will not quit leaking oil Especially it the engine is a 2 cylcle detroit
I have been around the dirt moving industry for more yrs than i care to count and i can't remember seeing a detroit engine that didn't leak oil. The saying was if it ain't leaking it's out of oil.

I don't think both engines were running as the rear engine is a air start
With some of those old Terexes, if you get the front engine running, the back will bump start when you get moving.
It's people like this that made health and safely breath down everyone's necks nowadays
i thought this was a classic diesel motor runaway... lol man was i suprised
legend says it is still out there somewhere roaming the hills
@maplemanz They probably didn't know, but kids will often hit any levers and switches to see what they do.
sounds lik a british version of rescue 911
Thank you fpor sharing this with us.Do not envy the cop in pursuit.
I chased after my tractor wile going down the hill and stopped it before it hit a car, felt so accomplished at eleven :)
Why was the pan not down on the ground when it was parked??? Why didn't the guy just hit the brake & stop the machine??? Pulling wires won't do SHIT!!! Why didn't he put the machine in neutral??? Your quote....."in front of your hose!!!!"
What does a garden hose have to do with this video?
How thay got the throttle wide open was interesting. You pull the accelerator UP and the diesel will stop! And they were spring loaded to idle. Sounds like a crank. I love the part where the suspects (children) flee and the police calls for dogs. Like Mr.Burns says "release the hounds".
it was a reenactment. like the US show 'Rescue 911'
Never seen a Terex start up that quick either!
There are many detroits which were painted yellow...but, in fairness, this could be a re-power also...many Terex scrapers were repowered with Cat and Cummins units
Why didn't the camera man that was on board stop it or steer it?
My question is how would a group of boys figure how to start a scraper, put it in gear, release the air brakes while riding on it without considering how they were going to steer it. Lucky they didn't get hurt when they stuck their hands and arms inside the engine compartment as the machine was going. A 5,000 plus RPM belt won't care if your fingers are in the way, neither will a hot engine block or the clutch.
7 minutes of 'What might have happened if.......'
I was referring to the TS-24 had a flat tire. Apparently to stop the scraper they did something to the valve stem to let the air out. The machine was mechanical throttle and it was just sitting there in gear at a fast idle.
i love how do the re-enactment and get it to smash through stuff lol
They don't call it a "dramatization" for nothing! lol
wow.....this is the saddest ''documentary'' ive ever seen...
These kids are now in an institution, like most 24drivers!!
My names Mrs Jones and I love a man in a uniform.
Something similar happened to me when I was 13 with a bulldozer at the city dump after hours. Pretty scarey for a kid.
So much for hands free communications, one law for them one for us.
Most scrapers in the 70's and 80's, were running air operated throttles, as well as air brakes(thought you'd like to know) - Cat and Terexes both had them...

THOSE MACHINES ARE LIKE TANKS
2 stroke Detroit? Not likely... you'd piss it off and it would run faster. Any engine oil sucked into the blower would put that thing on steroids.
The kids were able to find the key. But the dippy cop could not.
For now the beast of Sanford lay dormant. Leaving it with no master or commander.
One day, legend says a man in a hat shall control its power and unearth a near by field.
Did the children get caught after the digger was stopt
Ha ha ha, at 2m 14s the cop requests a dog! "Right Lassie, jump into the cab and stop this leviathon!"
"Arf arf..."
Lol
***** No! Really? I guess I must be retarded thinking us Brits had a sense of humour....*rolls eyes*
***** Ha ha ha, I always try to be funny man ;-p *rolls on down the road*
those damn kids
I vaguely remember seeing this episode as a kid.I used to watch 999 under my parents supervision quite often.

@@christopherhampson265 TS24's had an 8v71 detroit front and rear if I recall
they have 2 engines
I am an auto technician but, I put an ignition switch on a front loader... I tried it to make sure the engine turned and it fired immediately. how times change. a vauxhall cavalier police car and a ford transit ambulance
When my dad was a kid his dad had an old station wagon in their backyard and his dad told him if he got it running he can have it. So he got some of his older friends to help him just get it running and it took 3-4 months but once he got it running, it was blowing smoke everywhere and stalling but he got some books and put them in the seat and he got in and he drove the car onto the road and actually got a few miles before the cops stopped him and took him back to his dad and his dad grounded h
... I started laughing when he started ripping the cables and flippin switches. THERE IS A CLUTCH PEDAL
No clutch pedal on a TS24.
Eh... maybe... it wouldn't live forever, but I've been part of a motor 'bricking' or two... our record was a little over 20 minutes on a 300 Ford I6 wide open.
Why are they letting them play on the machine to begin with bad parents?
going absolutely buhhhh naaaannn ahhhss
With no one pushing on the pedals it won’t move
And i thought it was going to be a video of an actual Detroit running away. On those terex double barrels all you had to do was pull back on the pedal to kill it.
+josh33025 I thought it was a runaway as well.lol
TS24 used to drive a TS40 much larger. Who left the key in the ignition? Of course it was. Anyone who can't tell that it was a recreation is not old enough to be on youtube.
So, in order to recreate a story where a runaway scraper causes thousands in damage, they drive a scraper around and cause thousands more in damage?
UA-cam, why did it take 20 minutes to buffer a 7 minute video? Upgrade your damn servers!
ELLO Guvnuh! I do believ we awe inna bit ofa fuck..
At 3:00 their was a cameraman on it!! Why didn't he do something to stop the darn thing??
Shoot the opposite side of the engine with the turbo, I've yet to see an internal combustion engine run for more then a minute or 2 without oil, I don't acre what kind of engine it is.
I sincerely hope the ignorant parents of those kids was court ordered to pay for all damage.
A furry steering wheel cover on heavy plant???
This is not the machines fault. Maybe you should've kept a better eye on your kids.
Run Forest Run!!!!
Those kids needed a damn strong telling off. And made to pay for the damage caused from their pocket money for the next, oh I dunno, thousand years or so...
Had I been those kids and started it the last thing I would do is jump off.
im fairly sure one slightly overweight person could have just jumped on. i mean its not flying is it?
true but you would think the farmer would at least have a shotgun, which would do a pretty good number on a radiator.
The engine will run for a while until it finally seizes.
oh......i hate when people say that.....wiht all due respect.....because when people say that because they never say any thing that is disrespectful
well there's your first mistake... thinking logically! LOL!
Kids want to dig their own swimming pool in 1 hour. Not counting $200 worth of fuel.
now at last some scraper-action!
hahaha "i did a bit of cross country running for the force so i had a bit of experience there"
yeah, takes a lot of training to run across an open field.
yea! I know. I was just being a smarty pants. Later, Rick.
wheres nicholas angel when you need him?
idiots calling a trex motor scraper a digger, and u just have to drop the bowl and it would stop one lever to pull and it stops
maybe it could work. If the scraper was in a low enough gear however, the bowl might not stop it.
How can a human run so fast and for such a long distance to catch that monster?
I thought the kids would of started it then the engine did a runaway
P.S. that was weird
I told you that Cops should HAVE to take Motor-Scraper operating lessons !!!!!
It looks like they hired Conan O'Brian to play the cop! LOL!
perigo eminente maquinas paradas com chave de partida no painel e um perigo
brave man thats all i can say
how could a machine that size move 30 mph? ive never ran one but ive seen them on a lot of sites and they usually only move slowly.
Why didn't the camera man on it do anything ?
The lady at the end looked a bit like Olivia Newton-John.
Some one issue these cops hair cuts stat!!!!!
anybody else do that as a kid?
Why is there a camera by the steering wheel during the whole thing lol
It's a reinactment
@Nodak81 dont forget the canadians and french too lol
The way I see it, if you can catch up with the machine jump up on the back and crawl over the top to the cab. I mean it's logical because if you fall trying to jump on, you don't get run over.
damn kids and their music
What a drama !!!!
I didnt know England had Hard Copy
CRAZY
It's obviously a recreation, but I wouldn't except your brain to comprehend that.
do not ever ever start a big machine even if it is so tempting
@popnstart cuz it wasnt actually run away...
Because this is a reenactment....
im sticking up for innocent lives but oh well i guess you havent seen the damage these things can do
