Thank you so much, ladies for showing so clearly how to deal with dirty antique doll clothes, without damaging them.

Hi Ladies, thank you for your doll clothes cleaning.tutorial. . I really enjoyed watching your techniques for cleaning, drying and ironing the doll clothes. I find I always learn something and enjoyed that you both shared your different approaches to the ironing techniques. I have done a lot of doll's and puppet's clothes and costumes and I am now a creative textile artist also. I noticed that you used a regular sized iron so I thought I'd share with you that I use a smaller less heavy travel steam iron or patchwork iron when doing my work on the doll/puppet costumes, some of which are miniature. For very small pieces I also use a Clover patchwork iron which has a small arrow-shaped head and an interchangeable barette shape too. I find it ideal for tiny spaces but I have to be careful of the heat as it isn't so easy to regulate it's temperature for more delicate fabrics. For cotton or calico it is ok, and good for smoothing those hard to get at seams. I really like your mini ironing boards ideas, so practical! I think I'll have to make one of those. I too have been using dowels too! Thanks again for sharing your expertise. ❤

Yes, me too. But she’s in her 70s and wanted to retire and move to her home in Oklahoma. We certainly miss her.

Hi, thank you for sharing your methods. I was curious what tips you have for removing cigarette smoke from a vintage 60's musical cloth knickerbocker Raggedy Ann Doll? Thank you.

Thank you for this video. I want to clean the original blue velvet dress from a 1965 Royal Doll Co. “Joy” doll. I assume the velvet is cotton. Do you recommend washing the dress as shown in this video?
Also, do you know of a good source to purchase doll shoes for my “Joy” doll? She is 11” tall and her foot is 1 3/4” long.

Hi! I wouldn’t do velvet like this. Or maybe try something similar as an experiment. We only do cotton clothing exactly like the video like this.

Hi there, I love both those products by Twin pines but wondering if they are safe and effective in cleaning an antique red velvet doll dress with mold and mildew on it? Thank you,
    Lisa

Hmm does Bradley have any tips for cleaning or freshening up vintage Barbie and family clothing? I'd love to see a video on that because unfortunately with fashion doll clothing, it wasn't made to be washed and a lot of items run which leads to their destruction. Thanks!

This doll a a ballerina and she has a lot of teal layers. I can’t seem to get she has like a belt and it is either glued on or something. What would you suggest?

so...a cautionary tale, don't do what I did! I was so excited to find a 21" Sonja Henie, all original, at an estate sale wearing a fabulous velvet skating outfit with sequins. She was extremely dirty, (so dirty that what looked like mouse poop fell out of her hair!) so, I decided to wash her dress. BAD DECISION. Those dresses from the '30s had celluloid or gelatin sequins that are NOT washable. Imagine my surprise after 15 min to see the sequins had swelled to tiny, sticky, jelly balls. In hindsight, I should have tested a small bit first. Fortunately, vintage celluloid sequins are still available so I will be doing my penance by sewing hundreds of tiny sequins back onto the trim.

Wht do you use to clean body of a doll? Do authentic boudoir dolls have painted on shoes? Any suggestions for source for purchasing shoes for these dolls? Would you repair chipped paint on nose or leave as is? Thanks.

Hi! I am unsure of these questions, especially without photos. I would post the photos in a doll repair group on Facebook, or a boudoir doll collecting group. Take care!

Wow that was filthy, I would definitely do repeated washing and rinses, when I do my own laundry and I think something might bleed colors I use the color catcher sheets and they work well.

One wash was plenty for my personal taste. I don’t like my doll clothing to look brand new.
