Why would anybody want to miss on that great intro?
@@supmofo123Those would be Habs haters
In moving from New York to Montréal, I would not change my allegiance from the Yankees to the Red Sox, but I became an Expos sympathizer. The Vermont Lake Monsters were the VT Expos & were the Class A team with them from 1994-04.
I wanted Youppi! in the Mascot Hall of Fame when he got nominated, and I was so happy to see he did.
I sincerely hope that MLB returns to Montréal. It deserves to have a team back! A better stadium & hopefully a return to emphasizing finding & developing young talent players would be incredible.
Bring the Expos back!
Impressive documentary!
LET’S GO EXPOS ❤️⚾️💙
My fondest memories are summer days listening to the Expos on the radio. Thanks so much for the video!
Soon Soeihi Othani will be called the Babe Ruth of Canada, and you'll see a statue of Lionel Messi in the Montreal City Hall.
Well I would love to see Lionel starting pitch for the Marlins wearing an Expos uniform because of the popularity of the MLS in Miami.
Incredible documentary! I love this channel
NY sports fan here;
I always rooted for the Montreal Expos, especially during the late 90's on.
I truly believe that there were behind-the- back scheming to get rid of the Expos from Montreal.
I can only hope that Montreal can get another team soon.
I Miss the Expos! The last two years, I was at EVERY home games. The "cheap seats" tickets were 5$, but there was so few in attendance , that my friends ans I would always be able to get to lower sections , preferably near the third base, and security never bothered us. I remember one time, after I took my original seat in the rafters, a security guy told us to go down, because they were closing the section to revamp the seats for the next season, and so he literally escorted us to the our new seats near the third base. The Olympic Stadium wasn't the best place to play Baseball, I'll give you that, but the atmosphere during the games, was second to none! I think it is time, for the Quebec business community to get together, and bring back Nos Amours! Expos fan for Life!
Did you play hacky sack in the bleachers too? 5$ tickets, 10$ hot dog, and Pasqual Perez retiring a second based runner through his legs. That was the best 15$ i ever spent.
@@nightaudit8331 yep! You bet I did that!!!! Fun memories and awesome games.. Damn I miss the Expos!
It wasn't mentioned in this fabulous documentary, but it was a yearly tradition for high school kids to skip school for the Home Opener. We never got in trouble for it either, it was an unwritten rule that it was o.k,
those were great days loved going to watch Montreal expos
French Canadians are legends!! I want season tickets before I die... You guys did Montréal good!!!
Summers in Montreal are special.
I believe that this is your longest documentary yet. And once again, you're proving that you are the absolute best at montage on this platform Chris! You are ASTOUNDING!
Edit: Am I right in assuming that you were a huge Expos fan? 🤔😉 I was too!
My longest yes good catch! Huge Expos fan as a kid, great memories! Hoping I get to see the day they return⚾️❤️ Thank you so much John!
…and ANY documentary that quotes the Legendary Norm McDonald has my respect.
Montreal is also home to the event which gave the Expos their name, the greatest World's Fair of ALL Time, one which created a city within a city, the iconic "Expo 67"!
This documentary is awesome, bring me back in the time where I never miss an Expos Game. I did go see them around 40 times a year, If not, I was listening to the radio or TV before that. They departure was hard to take for me. Thank you for this video, bring me back to nostalgy.
Boy I can’t wait for the expos come back. This is my dream 🤞
This was a really special, and moving documentary! I really hope we get a team back here!!
I remember baseball players like Tim Raines, Andrew Dawson and Joe Carter very well. Tim Raines was the 1987 All-star Game's most valuable player, Andrew Dawson was the MVP of the National League's 1987 season and Gary Carter when he was a New York Met!!! I think if it weren't for Gary Carter's clutch hitting, the Mets might have not won the 1986 World Series! Carter wasn't a great percentage hitter, but he sure was tough in the clutch!
Im a Cubbie fan but I really miss the Spos. They were always scrappy as hell. No matter how little money they had, they always had plenty of fight in em. Baseball DOES need them back.
Sorry I was late 😪 I always love your videos Chris! Another amazing one!
With every video, this channel makes me want to move back to Montreal! Keep making magic!
After the Stanley Cup the Montreal Canadiens won in 1993, the 1994 fiasco was a massive hit to Québec and a tragedy for Montreal. It is still an infected scar in our pop culture.
Could you imagine winning the Stanley Cup in 1993, the World Series in 1994 and then the Expos drafting Tom Brady in 1995? We got so screwed😭
Thank you for putting this together. Emotional to watch. Thank you thank you. GO EXPOS!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it ❤️
The question still remains "where are they gonna play?"
PEEL BASSIN - This was supposed to be the proposed site for a possible downtown stadium had the Montreal - Tampa Bay shared project occured. However after that project fell through the land for the proposed stadium is NO LONGER AVAILABLE. The City of Montreal has approved the project that will turn Peel Bassin into a residential, commercial and industrial site. Construction is set to begin within the next few months. Also the train station (REM) that was supposed to be constructed had the baseball stadium seen the light of day has been scrapped.
OLYMPIC STADIUM - Well you can forget Olympic Stadium for the two following reasons :
1. MLB Commissionner Rob Manfred has stated on many occasions that if ever MLB was to return to Montreal it would be via a downtown stadium and NOT Olympic Stadium.
2. The Olympic Stadium is OFFICIALLY closed until at least 2028 as the stadium is undergoing renovations where a new roof (not retractable) and technical ring to support the new roof will be installed at a cost of $750 million (CAN). No other major changes are set for those renovations such as seating, sound, lighting, etc. The Olympic Stadium will just stay as it is.
So this still leaves the question...WHERE ARE THEY GONNA PLAY? The suburbs (North and South) ?
Many baseball fans in Montreal wanted ONLY a downtown stadium...PERIOD! Any stadium at the East of West End of the city is a no go. And besides there is no land available on the city itself. So this leaves the suburbs.
There too (suburbs) there is NO land available because the land is PROTECTED by the Quebec Government Agriculture and Wetlands Protection Act of 1978. And the Government has NO plans to change the Law (Act).
Merci ‼️
Definitely had cool uniforms and logo.
What people don’t realize is the location of the Olympic stadium where the Expos played. It’s in the East end of Montreal far from downtown and is an absolute nightmare to get to, one of the reasons for their downfall. The only way a team would be successful again would be to have a new stadium closer to the downtown core.
I’m a Jays fan, I’d be over the moon if the Expos returned. I miss the classic Canada Day matchup.
I agree, bring them back!
Je souhaite le retour des Expos aussi. Le temps dira. Merci.
Great compilation, much appreciated. As a lifelong diehard Expos fan a lot of this footage was familiar to me from former retrospectives like Les Expos Nos Amours (hosted by Donald Sutherland), The Colourful Montreal Expos (narrated by William Shatner), Triumph and Tragedy (narrated by Matt Vasgersian), The Perfect Storm, etc. but you wove the clips together to tell the story of the team very effectively.
It was cool seeing comedians like Norm MacDonald and Bill Burr chime in about the Expos, and some of the lesser known clips out there as well, so thanks for adding those. Too bad that wife-beating loser Jonah Keri features so prominently in old Expos videos and chronicles. I could've done without seeing him again. His commentary may be of value in advancing the narrative but his personal conduct will forever make him an embarrassment to the Expos fanbase at this point. It was more than a little ironic to hear him talk about how sane people will inevitably leave an abusive relationship, considering his wife had to leave him to avoid being killed. What a POS.
That said, I loved this collection of interviews and footage and couldn't agree more with the title of the video. In fact, it's well-past time to bring back the Montreal Expos. Nothing would make me happier. Let's get it done!!!
Mira- Lest we forget- Puerto Rico tried to help save Los Expos in 2003-04 hosting 44 'Home' games to hope you survive- Ironically- Our first skating rink opened Oct 15 2004- It is now gone as well. Que triste...
I hope the expos do come back to Canada I’m not Canadian but Montreal sure be back in mlb.
Hopefully the Expos will be back!
My Tom Brady limited edition Mitchell and Ness came in the mail a week ago. As a Patriots fan, as well as a huge baseball history fan, it was a must buy. I was born in 1998, and didn't strongly get into baseball until about 2003-2004. I didn't even know the Expos moved until I got MLB 2k5 and saw this new Washington club with Expos throwbacks. Then I put 2 and 2 together.
In 2010 MLB Network made a documentary on the 1994 Expos, and Andre Dawson was elected to the Hall of Fame. Carter and Dawson were honored in D.C., and I was hooked on the Expos history. I can remember clearly, from the time they moved until Gary Carter died, it was almost like "Montréal" and "Expos" were a dirty word, or a stain on MLB History. Sort of like people on the outside had a view of "Yeah we had a team there, but they're gone and it's not important. Look we're back in the Nation's capital."
Then Gary Carter died.
I can remember watching MLB Network that day, and the vibe that day and over the next few months was "This isn't right. Their greatest player, tragically dead long before his time, and the team he's most associated with isn't even here to honor him." I firmly believe his death worked almost like a sacrifice of sorts. When he died, the perspective really changed from "Montréal was a failure. A mistake" to "Wait, the fans weren't the problem. The players weren't the problem. It was really on the league. They did Montréal and the Expos wrong, not the other way around." I believe wholeheartedly without Carter's passing, you don't have the tiniest inkling of MLB returning to Montréal, you don't have the Blue Jays play exhibition games at Olympic Stadium, you don't have the Nationals honor the Expos in 2019. Almost like a flash, everything changed.
Although as a Red Sox fan I want the Expos back in the National League (look up how the Cleveland Browns return was handled in 1999, that's what I want for the Expos), a division of Boston, Toronto, Montréal, and the Yankees is a money maker. Although I'd rather see Montréal, Mets, Philadelphia, and Washington. Old vs. New Expos and renewing old rivalries.
Since 2010, I've considered the Expos my 2nd team. I can't wait to see them in action one day live. You deserve your team
P.S. SDS, Add Olympic Stadium to MLB The Show
Sorry, I had to add, Jonah Keri talking about an abusive relationship at the end here is ironic ain't it? Fuck him
Montreal definitely deserves another MLB team. If the NHL is going to put a team in Atlanta AGAIN!!!! MLB should certainly put another team in Montreal
The NHL has not put a team in Atlanta as of May 2024 expansion is not likely to happen until the following decade
If I had many billions of dollars I would build a stadium and lead the charge to bring baseball back to Montreal.
I miss the Expos. The team leaving when I was a kid tore a hole in me as a sports fan that still lingers to this day and sure it's nice we have the Jays and even got to see them win a pair of championships but still that longing for the Expos remains. For most sports fans, you never have to endure what a fan that lost a franchise had to endure but what makes the Expos hurt even worse is that we all knew that had the strike not happened, the Expos would still be in Montreal today. In the meantime, Montreal needs to dismantle that fugly Olympic Stadium, even if it cost 1b or so to remove it and build a proper ballpark. At worst use it for the Universities and community and use it as a giant carrot to bring MLB back where it belongs. Vive les Expos.
I love to see Lionel Messi doing a pitch for the Marlins wearing an Expos uniform on the truth because of Messi and MLS and InterMiami, that it makes sense for Lionel Messi wearing an Expos Uniform as soccer is becoming bigger in Miami.
And in Washington the heart-breaking loses continued till 2019 (a WS vIctory with no home wins).
Tim Raines was dope 💪
I truly hope someday expos will be back.. but it will be hard!!!! First of all we need to proove to the MLB that we still are a baseball town.. the best way to do it it's to full the stadium for 82 home games with no empty seats.. we also need to build a new stadium. And to finish, we need a guy who has deep pockets to own the expos .. it's not cheap to buy a franchise in the MLB....it's the price to pay for the mistakes of the past
the game was rained out Sunday night which became blue Monday
Bring back the expos!
Bad idea...I remember watching the Braves play their road games in Montrealin the 1980's and the place was a tomb. Silent and boring maybe a thousand fans at best during the week.
Where will they play ?
Towards the end of the video there’s a quick look at several proposed stadiums.
Yeah I musta missed it
Too long I'll watch it later, imaginr Cristiano in Montreal, well MLS and Cristiano might be interesting.
Montreal as a international port. Why can't a NBA or MLB franchise grow here?
Actually quebec city is older
Montreal is 4.5 million.
Quebec City is 800k.
Therefore not one of Canada’s ‘Big 3’
It's not going too happen!
They need a outdoor stadium and then bring the expos back
hahahahahahahahaha
It will never happen
No, it will never survive, it is just too political here now and there is no place for a team to play, the big O is dangerous and needs to be torn down, it is also a dangerous play for the players to play unless they want to slide on pavement, also the english speaking community has declined that there will be very little support
The Expos were the best farm team for MLB... fck Lauria till this day
