I think he wants to show that you can fix your bike without buying a lot of stuff. I admire that. Good job,Joe!
Exactly
He’s not doing sponsors or selling swag. He’s humble. A great teacher.
Because he's flipping them, less he has into them more he makes. Simple as that
It took me decades before I learned that Japanese bikes don’t use Phillips screws. You need to use a JIS screwdriver.
12 ugga duggas ougata get it out with mr phillip
Vessel makes good screwdriver and are JIS
That's why all the screws a striped out. You can just grind the tip down on a phillips and make your own jis.
reading this.. and you just made me understand why i stripped the screws so easily on oil fill up cap on the front brake on my crf450
Same for old Tamiya RC kits!
I find these videos very therapeutic.
Yeah, I call it my daily machine repair yoga.
@@novicedronepilot how does watching substandard practices and being given a lot of incorrect information and doing incorrect procedures I guess if you want to fill yourself with lies and bullshit and monotony but I guess you could call it therapeutic because it doesn't require any intelligent thinking but the substandard practices kind of make you shake your head and you end up with a big fog in your head

“No leaking yet” is always a favorite comment.
Or absolutely nothing leaks, except for that little bit right there.
I thought it was that's what the seller said
The seller wanting it back, A testament to knowing the bike is worthy and trusting in your skills. Got the cycle humming along. Beautiful day for a ride. 2Vinnie needs to inspect the land and test the bike's speed.
I look forward to watching these videos every week. Hopefully 2Vintage never stops making content
I love that he not only fixes the bike but also teach you how to do it, a two for one deal!
2vintage: A comprehensive study in what is good and what is bad.
That's definitely a nice-looking bike... I dont blame the guy for wanting it back.
Dude I could literally hear and see all the sand from not cleaning those internal parts get a parts washer or hose it down with 3 cans of brake clean.
Best coment he's shade tree 🌳 mechanic bad practice comes back to bite you
If you do sell it back make sure you get all the time and money you put into back
He does this for the money, he'll make good dollars however he sells it.
Can’t beat a 2 Stroke for sound, performance & smell, smell even better with Castrol R ❤
I'll say one thing young man you know your bikes. Keep them coming.
He's learning.
Nice clean rebuild. I see the replacement cylinder was sleeved. That’s not a bad thing for someone who wants to keep it. Rebores aren’t that expensive. Looks like a good, un messed with unit overall 👍
Amazing video! Because of you, I want to be a mechanic on dirt bikes, Jetskis, boats, and ATVs!
96 was a good year for those. Really strong engines. Nice work.
I miss working on my dirtbikes in the 80,s and 90,s. I learned to same way by tearing it down and figuring it out. I remember me and my buddy put a 125 yz air cooled back together and it fired up in reverse rotation. put it in gear popped the clutch and the bike went backwards. we tried to ride it for a couple of weeks like that but couldn't so we figured out what we did wrong and got the engine running the right rotation and back to terrorizing the neighborhood 😂
You rode the bike backwards for two weeks?
I would have loved to see that!
ROFLMAO!!!!!
@richardstone5241 no we tried to ride it but couldn't the torque is to hard to balance it. But we all took turns and if was funny for us 16 and 17 year old kids playing around
@@user-sg5ws7zw5h Yep, good fun that unfortunately kids today will never know.
Haaa,I had a yz 400 that would do the same thing
It required advancing the stator timing a tad to stop that.
Such a nice engine in the bike. Too bad you didn’t clean up that rusted frame before installing the engine.
Joe i have been watching you for yrs now. I am sure you look at ways to improve your channel. Well you have done that in my opinion. You showing putting the power values in, and explaining it more talking threw the process is. I have noticed you have been doing this more in your last10 or so videos. Keep up the great work you do
My go to youtuber
Leaves the rest for dust
Keep doing what your doing as you do it well 👌
While putting the cases back together, you should always do it by tightening the fasteners from each end evenly and not just crank down on just one end. I'm sure this is why there was so much creaking when Joe was cranking down only on the left-hand side. Plus, the gap on the right side never closed fully as it should have.
He doesn’t know the basics !!!! Drives me crazy
Great vids, even if they are redundant. I liked when you took us along to get the bike where you talked the guy down to $600. Don't be afraid to haggle. They need your money more than you need their bike. Now, there's one thing you do that kills me, and you did it again in this video. How can you set that nice, clean engine onto that clump of oily, gunky mud/dirt?? I know you hit it with the power washer after ripping it around, but that specific area is nearly impossible to get fully, and you had a great opportunity while the engine was out. Take less than 5 minutes. But, I've been told I'm a clean freak...
Clean freak !
I was thinking the exact same thing. Opportunity missed but in the end it didn't matter. All is forgotten lol
Congratulations for opening the garage door before the entire room fills up with smoke. 😁
!!!! 🤣 Takes him forever to make a change
Seeing how you carefully run in fresh rebuilt engines I'm surprised anyone that watches you would want to buy one of Ur machines lol
I always taught the same
Fix it then ride it like an idiot
If he wanted it back. I would change him so much. For the parts and labor. Just like car shops do
If I bought that bike I'd have to take it apart and clean it.
He doesn't do that. Just makes them run and have no idea what happens to them after.
@@Catfish2255!!!! 🤣
He must’ve watched the video and now he’s kicking himself for selling! That’s probably a best case so you can profit for other projects and don’t have to list. I’d love to see your marketplace profile if you were closer for selling I bet there’s some good stuff on there hahah
Ol' Joe loves his dirtbikes. I'd like to buy it back, and here is $2 for your time
Your running stock jetting with a aftermarket pipe your absolutely lean
Joe,if you have to pull out the crank, replace the crank bearing!!
!!!! 🫵🤣
Someone sponsor him so he can have 2 boots ;)
Another great job "Smoking' Joe"!
i so badly want to clean that engine and frame 🤣
Use a small roller for the gasket maker between the cases instead of your finger
Don,t understand why you don’t invest in a parts washer.
Poor
You can make your own for cheap
I absolutely agree how can you assemble an engine that’s obviously not clean after a blow up like that there will be small debris everywhere 🤦♂️
@@gasman4451 in most cases that small debris won’t do anything. It’ll just sit in the oil and work its way through. Clearances exist for a reason lol. I didn’t change the oil in my old ‘03 atv for 5 years, auto clutch and all. It was fine. It’s not like these are built motors lol.
Hot water heater and a commercial sink is all he needs. I sell chainsaw engines and parts hot water is where it’s at.
I’ve had my beloved CR250 in a box for four months now and you’ve inspired me to put the piece of shit back together and take it for one last rip before I sell it. (Had it for ten years now). I’m gonna get me a gas gas
Sounds crisp, another rebuild done the proper way! Yeah man, well if the seller pays you the right amount, why not sell it, you have enough bikes i am thinking lol. Big Up!
Dealers don't wash your bike either when they work on it
Running great, bit pinky but livable. Great job. Awesome ride Joe!!
That bike is running quite a bit lean it has a pipe on it to me a 162 jet on a 250 seems a little small it should probably have like a 165 or even a 168 The pilot is way lean you can tell it doesn't have the ping ping sound when you let off it it has like almost like a runaway two stroke sound to it that's lean that's actually air screw I just did the jets on my banshee the other day it was doing that and you can fix that with air screw
needs to move the needle clip up one too
Stock jetting with an aftermarket pipe?
Great rebuild, sounds to me like it rips bigtime! Thanks Joe!
Man I’m really impressed how well that bike came out !! Great job !!👍
Thin layer of ultra grey for the case halfs. That thick layer will squeeze out when the cases are torque and can and will clog oil ports and lines. Or it will lock down the oil pump. Seen it happen more than once.
Love watching his video as i learn so much. He really knows what he is doing on these bikes, ATV, and UTV. I wonder how he got these skills? Was he a motorcycle mechanic before or just learned this all on his own with lots of research and doing it over and over again. His troubleshooting skills on issues are amazing also.
That's like the never ending bottle of assembly lube. It seems to always have the same amount everytime you use it!😂😂
Fantastic job getting Kawasaki KX back and running nice 👍
Let's buy Joe a parts washer!
The 1983 CR250 dropped sleeves into the case on the regular. It popped more pistons that Orval Redenbacher.
I would have installed a Spitzer valve in it. No idea what one is but it sounds cool.😁
How many previous owners try to buy their machines back once you've completely overhauled what ever was broken , and gotten them back to almost new conditions again ? ? Happy Trails from 🇨🇦 to the 🇺🇸 . ✌ out . L8R
@@johnbeattie5765 never it’s false video advertisement. Never once said that the seller wanted it back
Read the title if you can read
There was no Orings on the power valve keepers when reassembled. (The thing you drilled and used extractor.) Both missing maybe you did it on purpose? They won't fall off with Oring installed. Which gasket maker do you usually use? Damn I must be a clean freak, with the vapor blaster everything is shiny when I am done but at least use a power washer with a turbo nozzle. Still a great job, that's a fun bike I just rode 37-mile single track on mine on Sunday. (Idaho, 7300 ft altitude)
Glad to see that bike get some love!
I do enjoy your videos but as a person that repairs machines as well some things never make since to me.
First the used $200 cylinder can’t be honed. Its plated. You should always sent cylinder out to be replated . They will come back like new for just shy of $300 and the bore with be better than a new OEM cylinder. Powerseal is one such company. There are only I believe 3 in country and all do excellent work
Next if you’re tearing down a 96 with no history and have the crankshaft out, just have it rebuilt anyway. I fully understand the up and down pull on the rod test but in reality it should be disassembled and inspected to know for sure and the issue is that the rod may indeed feel ok but a fresh top end with maximum compression can easily show just how worn the crank bearings are.
Also yes, invest in a parts cleaner tank and a bead blast cabinet.
By now there isn't to hard of a search to find potential builders. They have to be as simple as opening up emails.
I think the seller should go 4000 back dang the amount of work done Joe lol
Nice job! I just bought a Polaris Sportsman 700 4x4 that wasn't running off Facebook. You inspired me to go get a project bike to work on with my son. We did get it running the other day, but had to order some parts for it and hopefully be able to drive it soon. Def an upgrade from my old Polaris 400 Xplorer 4x4. Love what you do! Take care.
Awesome job on the rebuild Joe.
Being a pipe fitter/welder for 32 years and working in crouched positions, squatted like you do working on these machines has caused chronic lower lumbar back issues from spinal stenosis, and bulging discs in L4L5 and L5S1 discs. I live with pain of discomfort every single day of my life the last 3 years. I’m only saying this because I’ve been watching your awesome videos for a long while now and seeing you in bent over and squatted positions I’m just giving you a heads up. Get you a lift to work on all these machines.
These videos are addicting. Love how much content you put on here. Never miss a video.
Joe I noticed when you were putting the original plug back in it looked bent on top , a wobble as you were hand screwing it back in
Should have mowed the grass while you where there I'm jealous at 78 I miss hooning but still get around on an old bmw 650 dual purpose bike when i feel like it keeps me happy stay safe😇🤩

With the new piston & what not, it seems to be running fine (these two strokes are always a tad temperamental).
You should get chuck and put it against your 98 CR250 for a few head to heads like back in the day
Don't forget that garages make profit on the parts too so not only the working hours.
I missed why you had to split the cases if the crank and bearings were ok? Thanks for sharing.
*Cause of piston failure= Hauling around all those stickers...
Thanks Joe
That is one of the fastest 250 years I've ridden on n fun bike n probably just as quick as the CR 250!
Had the same bike, used to hate that straight up and kick start.
Getting air lock in the fuel tank. Folks don't waste your money on those bling fuel caps.
Vinny says it just needs a little carb clean.
Reversing the drill does NOT produce a cross-hatch pattern. Just follows the same scratches you did in forward on the drill. just like threads on a bolt, left then right. Go up and down in forward only to get a 45deg cross-hatch.
Vinny wanted to go out to the land with him. He's like so mean for not taking him.😆
U ruud brother 👀👀😬🤨🤨
I'd say starting your own shop would be a worthwhile investment...still could video everything and wouldn't need a huge shop building.
Hes making roughly 12k+ per month in views, he prob doesnt want the headache. It would make getting bikes to film easier tho i suppose.
Having worked for myself for most of my life, I can say from experience that "opening a shop" is NOT always in the owner's best interest. He has a "shop" in his garage, and his overhead is minimal. Leasing or buying a shop is simply adding financial burden to a currently successful business venture. Building maintenance, taxes, state and local "licenses," multiple forms of insurance, etc, all take away from the profitability of the current venture. I worked out of my garage for 30 years and never had to be concerned with all of the other stuff. Many "shops" are an ego trip, which quickly come to reality when your checkbook is depleted.
JMHO, YMMV
@joevalencic5275 i agree with u, customers was my thinking. Running a shop brings legal obligations too. Consumer laws are pretty strong in us, which brings predatory customers.
If you charge customers to do repairs, you have to do the work as the service manual states it should be done. That's not happening here.
Joe mate put the bars more inline with the forks, near impossible to ride a bike with them too far back like that, previous owner must have struggled like that lol
Either Vin? or 2vintage doesn't fully know how to ride a bike or something is a bit off. Does sound like it needs some work on the jetting but these 2stokes should be Powerband to powerband shifting through all gears, I barely heard 1-2-3 PB and idk about 4th
I'm sure all the gears work and some cobwebs need to be worked out.
Again I don't know if 250 is to much for 2vintage or what.
Yes, good looking bike and great job on fixing it; hope the seller pays you good but don't charge top dollar as again, I would sandblast every part or liquid blast and that engine would be sparkling. (the way I think is if you have it torn apart, might as well make it look new as possible)
great looking bike again, seller if you read this, stiffen up the rear lol

WOW your actually cleaning awesome!!!!
What 2 stroke oil do you use that lets you run at 40:1 rather than say 25:1?
Just use Lucas stabilizer for your assembly lube,it's just as good but considerably more volume for your dollar,
Best riding gear ever lol !!!
That is a good looking bike Joe. Nice work as usual.
