Morgan…….You nailed it! Excellent review. I’m sure you must know by now I am binge watching all of your videos. Thanks for all your hard work. It shows 😊
Gen X here and just found your channel. Very cool :-) I still love this movie and often re-watch it. I like seeing the city from the 80's...it's like going though a time capsule.
I love this series. Incredibly well done (I’m a huge film fan and a full on gen x - er. Worked in both video stores and record stores).. I’m wondering if this series is still going? And If you are taking any requests? Over the edge, that was then this is now, rivers edge, last American virgin, suburbia, class of 1984 all films that burned into my psyche
Morgan lives - post-MV! I saw this once years ago. It's a perfect time capsule of mid-80s NYC (more character, better music scene and MUCH lower rents). Had I been a teen I would've had the time of my life (minus the drugs, of course). Alas, I was born the year this came out. I look forward to more of these, you're always so thorough, Morgan. I've always identified more with Gen-X anyways so I couldn't be happier.
Vision Quest is 100% on my list of films to review, Bob -- it was filmed in my hometown while I was growing up and thus was a very big deal to me at the time.
I'm going back and catching up on your GenX series, not sure how I missed this one the first time around! WOW. The amount of known actors and pop culture stars in this, I had no idea! (Today I learned that Harlan from "Thelma and Louise" played Anne Carlisle's boyfriend in DSS.) I love Gary and Susan's scenes together, particularly where they're smoking up and Gary gets philosophical. "Does it even really matter that I'm the spa king of New Jersey?" Classic! This video was ACE.
This is when Madonna was in her prime in my opinion. I also love that style of necklaces and bracelets! when all the girls in high school were dressing like that. Damn that takes me back!
This film is deeper than you may realize and also more symbolism than just the jacket. Although it is associated with Gen X, most of the actors and the director are actually from the Boomer generation. It's a great film on so many levels.
Since you've wrapped up the MV reviews, what is more Gen X than 1986's "Band of the Hand"? A Michael Mann production directed by PMG fresh off his Second Season Double Episode of Miami Vice.
I liked your short description of what a Gen-Xer's basic views are. Even though it was the small version it cut to the point and is definitely true about a lot of us and our approach to the world around us... It's just too bad that the last two generations didn't understand where we were coming from. They basically took certain things we were into and flipped them over to the mainstream while also creating a wave of authoritarianism around it driven by their emotions and tendency to be easily offended along with their basic lack of humility. It's become a nightmare to actual independent thinkers and those who like being independent in general. These people seem to have a permanent stick up their asses. It's like they're wearing a Halloween costume on the outside that says, "I'm Liberated". But on the inside they're basically a bunch of yuppies.😂... Therest too much acting going on these days and not much in the way of originality. It's kind of sad too, because back in the 80's I thought great things were on the horizon. But just like in the past generations politics has a habit of ruining things.
What really got me with this film-and which you didn't really mention, is the glaring illuminati new-world-order symbol on the jacket itself, which seemed to be at the very core of the film. I wonder what the hidden message there, was.
The symbol is just the Great Seal of the United States. It's on the reverse of the one-dollar bill. No Illuminati link at all. (Edited to add: I should point out that, of course, you're not wrong that the Great Seal is associated with the Illuminati. But I can't really think of any reason why this lightweight comedy would deliberately contain an allusion to secret societies, instead of just using an image featured on US currency as a cool design on a flashy jacket, but maybe I'm overlooking something. If you have any theories about what it might mean, I'd be interested in hearing them. But I'm inclined to think this is a film entirely without hidden messages or deeper meaning.)
@@MorganRichter Look up the Illuminati Symbol, you'll see what I'm talking about. And it literally says ''Novus Ordo Seculorum'', which is Latin for New World Order.
How about the fact that Madonna became the queen of the illuminati? Coincidence? Maybe; maybe not. Btw did you ever see a very similar movie titled forever lulu aka crazy streets with Debbie Harry in the Madonna part and Hanna schygulla in the Rosanna arquette part? It's almost as good as desperately seeking Susan.

6:33. That was a 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles logo on the newspaper!

Love this review lady. You’re awesome! Thank you. This is just what I needed tonight.

You are awesome Morgan.
I had no idea that that was the same guy who was the drummer for sonic youth!
Thank you so much for these nuggets

This is exactly what i thought and hoped you would be doing. I need this. Thank you Morgan.

Thank you so much, Andie! :)
“Lackadaisical”? I love it. Keep em coming
Love it! If you don’t work with film, TV or entertainment that is fundamentally unjust!
hah you're back Morgan. I'm really glad.
One of my favorite 1980s movies is "Modern Girls" BTW. Guilty pleasure for sure.
Ooo! Great suggestion.
Forgot how awesome this movie was, especially as a New Yorker. And you can never have too many Miami Vice references.
I just realized that Madonna was eating Cheese Poofs while wearing lace gloves...like a boss
RIP Mark Blum.
Bruhhhh pleaseeee I love tuff turf too

I love that God made you.

Gotta do e.t. and weekend at bernie's
Nice to find out I'm not the only one who wants to live an in abandoned warehouse
I get this film and 1986 Something Wild confused with each other.
Madonna best look throughout her entire career was hands down her Material Girl look.
Madonna’s

Rosanna Arquette is so underrated as an actress...WTF happened to her career? One thing that this movie is lacking is a "Cure" soundtrack...
Never understood the fascination for this movie. Nor why on earth anyone green-lit the script
that could be said for any 80's movie except Full Metal Jacket
