Being born&raised in London by Irish Parents(both were from County Kerry)and really were"Fish out water"in London! But when they sat around and played the Dubliners records, their life's seemed a liitle more tolerable.👍
Unforgetttable Dubliners forever. What marvelous and powerful voice by Luke. We will Love, you, Luke. We miss you but we keep you in our hearts and our soul FOREVER. 😗💖🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
One thought on the dubliners, there was never a look of jealousy in there eyes about each other As they all had there parts to play, in this truly amazing band from dublin, Ireland
I listened to this beautiful song in 1981 as an Irish pen-friend sent to me a cassette. Now I can enjoy-it like you and I still love-it, The Dubliners are wonderful. I dream of a visit to Ireland, with same Celtic spirit as we have here in Argentina :) Many Greetings and hugs Irish Friends!
miguel hopefully by now you've managed to make a trip to Ireland, You should definitely try get here, its a beautiful country. I would love to visit your country some day in the near future.
I am Irish-American, with relatives in Ireland, and I've never been. Though Im dying to, as well. I have a friend (i met online) whose Brazilian, but she's been to Ireland, and is in love with the Irish culture.
Saw the Dubliners just as they were here, way way back in 1969. The memory of their amazing performance has stayed with me all these years! They even came out during intermission to say hi to folks in the audience.
Scottish born and bred... But this was my Grandfather's favourite song. Good Irishman emigrated to Glasgow. I've never been to Ireland, but this song will always have special place in my heart.
I posted this to Facebook and a grandmother from Southern America with no Irish ties, recorded a video of her granddaughter dancing to this. The two of them were happy out listening to it. As an Irish man I was honoured.
Jesse Sands, my Big thanks for this reply. Another question; am I right when i’m comparing as equal with Liam Clancy and álso with Tommy Makem? That áll three should deserve a great Rememberance in the Folk Music!!
The voices blend perfectly in the same way as do the banjos, guitars and tin-whistles. Absolute magic! To make a simple folk-song like this sound so distinctive is superlative talent.
John Sheahan is the only original Dubliner who has visibly aged. Luke and Ciarán will always be remembered at the relatively young age they died, while Ronnie and Barney looked that old right from the beginning.
To someoneelse He must have been a top bloke or they would have thrown him out ...... only joking , they were all highly talented in their own way . A combination that will never be equalled.
I saw this performance on the Ed Sullivan show(which my family watched religiously) as a boy of nine.....my brother and I would sing the melody as we were going to sleep(didnt know the words of course, so wed make them up)....great memories brought back.....thanks for posting.....
Monica, we can listen his songs always. So his magical and enchanted voice ! Sure he is gone a long time ago. But we must preserve his memory through his many songs. And sure show his history and songs for future generations?! Why not?!
@@daisypeters3216 his memory lives on in those who sing for him and know of him. He inspired me to play the 5 string banjo, Barney inspired me to play the tenor banjo and Ronnie inspired me to play the guitar so they have an influential part of themselves left behind

I heard John say in an interview that they were meant to sing Seven Drunken Nights, but Ed Sullivan who was very conservative wouldn’t let them when he saw the lyrics. Muirsheen Durkin was a last minute replacement
As I heard it, Ed Sullivan barred the Dubliners after this show. He had heard them in rehearsal sing the phrase "and many's the house besides" and he said that they could not sing that on his show. They sang it anyway. He was furious. So, his show made The Clancy Brothers famous in America, but killed The Dubliners.
Interesting, never knew that. I knew something similar happened to The Doors for singing a lyric suggesting drug use but never knew it happened to the Dubliners as well
Is that a fact? Well the swinging sixties weren't so swinging in America then.I don't suppose Leonard Cohen got on his show then with his far more explicit lyrics

Thanks for your service mate. Welcome to your discovery of Luke. He was for the miners, the underdogs, the working man. He had a great affinity for Britain even tho he was a proud Irishman. Luke would have wanted the Brits & the Irish resolve their grievances in the pub over a pint and a sing-song.
