Just a little info about fruit bats, they usually don't swallow food, they just crush it in their mouth to get all the juice out, and throw the rest out, which is what makes them so excelent at dispersing seeds. They are also polinators as they tend to look for flowers and eat the polen/nektar. All kinds of bats are very important to the environment.
"Look at that thing, how creepy it is!" [Camera zoom in on handsome bat with calm, gentle eyes and cute wiggly ears] Oh yeah, and I bet you're terrified of kittens too.
Dave was really funny in this segment! He expressed people's fears & misconceptions in a humorous way that would be non-threatening to people who hold those misconceptions. Also, he didn't exaggerate being terrified or let any real fear he may have felt take the focus off the animals, the way some talk show hosts do around animals brought in by wildlife experts.
Why do they have to be so damn creepy looking?" She laughs & says, "They probably think the same thing about us." That's a great answer! Gonna have to remember that one. It gets people outside themselves & seeing things from the perspective of someone else, in this case, the perspective of another species. That's really important. So many people think the world is ONLY as THEY personally perceive it.
TheGizmoskate No, you're thinking of the pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles). The thin skin that forms a bat's wing is stretched between all 4 of its fingers, while the thumb is modified into a claw that it uses for climbing.
I'm sure he's very charmed to have a bat sharing his name XD . And I want a GIF of that bat eating the mealworm! It's still so astounding that those tiny little bats can live so long. It makes me wonder how fast their hearts beat in order for that to happen.
Awwwww says the audience. bwahahaha....my little bat nomnoms fool them every time! FEAR ME HOOMAN! nomnomnom I AM THE NIGHT! nomnom....ooo my favorite....WORMS!!! nomnomnom....
I used to watch his show ( my favorite was The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson) and seem to recall this particular episode thinking how cute the Flying Fox was you had. Letterman does seem to behave a little bit like a soyboy here, but maybe it's just that he seems dated now. So, did you and the bats meet Pamela Anderson?
I wish David Letterman what is reacted better, but he does that to get laughs from the audience and in this case that's a shame. When you go on a comedian show that's generally what happens. I am glad you were on the show and all the bats were absolutely gorgeous what sweethearts and the Flying Fox was just beautiful.❤❤❤❤❤
There are several. The woman on this show founded Bat World Sanctuary...literally. She sold everything she could, house, car, you name it to get start up money and I'm glad to say she is still there, rescuing bats all over Texas and the SW. That last one is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
I loved how she just rolled with the punches...excellent interview!
I love it when the fruit bat gets the grape! Her little ears are so darling!
Oh David, what a baby. :o)
Pretty cool opportunity to show the world beneficial and beautiful bats!
Thanks BWS.
The bat that was eating the worm was just as cute as the fruit bat :D

Malaysian Fruit Bats are my favorite, saw them for the first time at the San Diego Zoo and fell in love with them.
The fruit/fox bat looks like a little puppy! :)
"And, how would you cook it?!"....LOL, too funny....Bat World Sanctuary is still going and growing!
Those little ears on all the bats just do me in! They're so darling! ♡♡♡
Outstanding! It was very cool and educational!
He probably thought the last bat would be the same size as the other two. I know :-) The fruit bat looks SO CUTE :-)
I know. I love their ears....constantly wiggling left and right to pick up sounds. Adorable!
"Bats is smart -- gots radar!" -- a quote from Letterman (from an old show).

I wish he would invite you back. I only watch when animals are on.
Admittedly, the wingspan is a little unnerving, but look at that adorable face! Creepy?! Dave's such a wuss...
Adorable! Thanks for Bringing them on the show. But Dave is sooooo bad! How long to cook them... Bad Dave! Bad, bad, bad!
Creepy, lovable, huge, mesmerizing, and adorable. I wanna be near one, maybe not hold one, but I wanna be near one in person.
The audience was too obnoxiously loud. I wanted to hear more about the bats....
Is the same woman who does the videos?
