Climbing Cerro Chirripo IN ONE DAY | Costa Rica

- Would you hike 40km in a day if it was the only way you could see Costa Rica's highest summit?
That's what it came down to for Viv and me when we couldn't get a 2-day permit for Cerro Chirripo's national park.
When those 40 kilometers mean that you're trekking through the jungle, forest, and eventually rocky planes, we weren't too bothered about the distance.
The hike to Cerro Chirripo's summit was unforgettable. From the moment we reached the 13th kilometer, the views stayed with us all the way to the summit.
Cerro Chirripo was our first mountain in Central America, and it was one to remember.

13:56 Just a clarification, we do have helicopter emergency services for Chirripo and other areas that are difficult to get to. So, if found, overall, you are safe and if needed, you would get a ride on one of those fancy helicoptersyou mentioned. But is it worth it?
Thank you for sharing. Really a feat to do that in one day. Great video and information! Pura Vida!!
@@josephdennehey4126 Appreciated 🙏🏻 Thanks for watching!
Pura Vida Amig@s. I love your spirit and joy of going to the mountains. I come from the University of Mountaineering, Gesäuse (Austria) and have been living in Costa Rica for over 20 years. Chirripó is one of my places of work as a professional, certified mountain guide. The reservation of the hut is always a big deal, especially in the high season from December to the end of April. The climb in one day is a great achievement and I would like to congratulate you on it. Be safe!
Pura Vida, thank you! Living and working in Costa Rica, especially working as a guide there sound amazing! Thank you for watching 🙌🏼
Guys chapeau to you two - inspired by your video (and by the lack of availabilities at the base camp) we tried to peak in one day. Despite being in good shape, after breakfast at Los Crestones we decided to head back. Bravo to you in any case :)
Well done for your attempt! That route in one day was by NO MEANS easy......
I hope you go back one day and give it another go. If you do let me know how it goes 💪
Epic video guys. Long but great looking hike!
Thanks Lach! Costa Rica is hiking heaven 🌱
Awesome video, man! I'm hyped for part two!
Thank you! Part two coming out in 2 weeks💪
That looks like an adventure. You really know how to challenge yourself ;) Beautiful shots and impressions. Congrats on mastering the Cerro Chirripo and all that in one day! Mucho respeto ;)
Gracias mate! The toughest part of all of these challenges will always be the 2AM wake up call😂
Epic final scene 😂... congratulations 💪🏻🎉
Thanks for watching!
Well done Cris and Viv!

Nice job…wish me luck
You got this 💪🏼

I'm going there in a week! Me and my bf are thinking about doing the same as you guys. Did you ended up paying the entrance fee/permit? Anyone check if you have a permit? Any gates? I will have a rental car, do you see a spot near the trailhead to park?
There's a ranger office in the town, you can see in the video the one we went to. You pay a fee & they give you a bracelet. I don't remember the fee being high.
There are no gates but you have to stop at the refuge which is 1hr before the summit to register.
There was a hotel 1 min walk from the start of the trail, we booked it and from memory, there was plenty of parking space there. Have fun and thanks for watching the video!
How long did the entire hike take (out and back)? No, I didn't watch the video.
At the end it says that it took them 16 hours and 30 minutes
Hello! Did you bring any bear spray for the wild animals? Also, can you get in trouble with the park officials if you start the climb early? Because it says the park is only open 8am-4pm
Hi. No spray. We had no issues with entering the park at that time, the rangers said it was ok as well. People enter the park at all times in the morning without issues. Doing the mountain in 1 day is quite common 😊
@@TraintoSummit Oh okay thank you so much for responding!
Is it true you need a guide?
