As a note, body pillows don't always have characters on them so it isn't solely an anime thing. I usually buy and use body pillows that have patterns or solid colors.
There is a design where instead of a character it just has a picture of a pillow

I have had a longer pillow since I was very young. Not saying they're super common, but I've had one basically my whole life. But also yeah it's just a solid color. The only pillow I own with something _designed_ on it is Y0da from Revenge of the Sith lol.
