    Steve Clark, amazingly talented and gifted guitarist and songwriter. Died 8th January, 1991; ages just 30. Beautiful, sensitive man, still grieve for him.

      I don't think that Def Leppard were ever the same after the sad loss of Steve Clark... They lost their real individuality and the thing that really set them apart... No disrespect to Vivian Campbell, but he's not nearly as innovative as Steve was.

    The 'around your face' is titled because of the 'round stage'. Def Leppard was the very first band to ever do such a staging, and the last!! I am so very grateful to have seen them for this tour, in Houston, Tx!!! This was the second BEST concert I've ever seen!!!

      "In The Round - In Your Face" was Def Leppard's masterpiece back in 1987/88 in the US supporting Hysteria, and then again for the "7 Day Weekend" tour for Adrenalize. Metallica didn't do it until 1991/2/3 I think it was supporting the Black Album, and they added a few extra features like the 'inside the stage' section. Very cool. Def Leppard were the first Rock Band to do such a thing in that format.

      How was a 12-ish song set filmed over 2 days? It's an hour of music, it was one show.
      They're wearing the same clothes from start to finish

    • @dedblow
      @dedblow 2 роки тому

      @@Moonboy9001 They had one full show each night. Because they knew they were making a concert film, they would clean their clothes each night and wear them again the next night. Then they spliced together the best parts from each show and made what appears to be one seamless concert. I've read from fans that attended, that some songs were done multiple times. The power of editing.

    Original version is still the most amazing! Mutt Lange was like another member of the band, his talent for production and his contributions musically and song writing were awesome and he's a big reason Def Leppard found their sound, that sound that when you hear it you know who it is right away. Mutt Lange brought that out of them. Before working with Mutt they were a great band all talented cats but they didn't really stand out from the rest of the late 70s early 80s rock bands. They worked with Mutt for every album throughout their entire career and during their height of success until I believe the last album or two they did on their own.

    Just my opinion but 9 times out of 10 you'll probably want to listen to the original studio version of whatever song you're listening to. That's just my opinion. There are some better live versions than original but I think the original release is how the band intended the listener to hear it.

    In the round, in your face...The stage was round, rotated, and was smack in the middle of the arena. Tesla opened for them, as they were one of the only bands, "With the balls to play in the middle." I saw it in Dallas, Tulsa, OKC, Lubbock, and Midland/Odessa. Regret not going to Phoenix, Houston, and San Antonio.

    This performance may seem a bit random to anyone not familiar with the original song. Rest assured, EVERYBODY in the arena that night knew the song, and the band was definitely playing to the crowd. For this tour (In The Round - In Your Face), the band was on a round stage in the center of the arena, with the audience around them on all sides. The area underneath the stage was legendary for sex, drinking and general debauchery.
    You should check out the original studio version of "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" - and when you do, don't forget the instrumental ending to the song, which is called "Switch 625". Without it, the song is a classic, but with it, it's legendary.
    You mentioned "Pour Some Sugar On Me" - that was the fifth single released from the Hysteria album, and none of the previous four had gotten any success. It was also doomed to disappear - except that it was picked up as a favorite in the strip clubs in Miami Beach. That got the song radio airplay, and the previous four singles all became hits at the same time. Strippers saved Def Leppard's career, and made Hysteria one of the biggest-selling albums of in history. Hooray for boobies !

    • @simplesimon8586
      @simplesimon8586 3 роки тому +3

      Don’t agree with that assessment at all.
      The first two albums were moderately popular. More so in the UK. The third album, Pyromania, exploded into the US market capturing massive attention and dedicated followers. MTV played a large role in spreading recognition and appreciation for the Pyromania Album. It saw huge success and retroactively drove a renewed interest in the prior two albums. The popularity of Def Leppard was frenzied enough at that point to make it impossible to locate copies of either High N Dry or On Through the Night for several months as vendors were all sold out of the limited stock they had on hand and new stock had to be ordered and shipped in - often from the UK. Pyromania itself was better stocked and supply chains adjusted to the unexpected demand more easily.
      There was immense anticipation leading into the fourth album, Hysteria, that was amped up by the wait the band insisted on while their drummer recovered and relearned how to play with only one hand after losing his left arm in a car accident. Hysteria hit the US like a tsunami and had multiple singles playing simultaneously on both the airwaves and MTV. Woman, Love Bites, Animal, Rocket, and of course Pour Some Sugar On Me could be easily caught heard on the airwaves all within the same day as they dominated the market. Hysteria didn’t rely on the strip club scene for its success in the least, though it was certain that Pour Some Sugar On Me became an anthem in those venues.
      Def Leppard is widely considered to have been the greatest arena rock
      band of all times and established much of the direction taken by other rock bands throughout the second half of the 80’s. To portray them as a mediocre band with limited success on just one album, and that due to strip club adoption of one song, is a huge misrepresentation of history.

    I was always loyal to def leppard. I have met them twice and Joe Elliott has called me at home two times as well. The fact though is with the loss of Steve in 91 changed everything. Never made a great album with Viv Campbell. Steve was needed for that special def sound. I would say that straight to the remanding guys faces. Even losing Pete Willis in 82 was a big loss, though I respect Collen and I love Hysteria.

    As in most cases the studio version is better than the live version. This particular song has two studio versions and studio version one is the preferred more popular version because it does not have keyboards in the song.

    They have been through a lot. Steve's death (he's in this video), then Rick aka Thunder God was in a car accident and lost his arm! He still plays drums with the band. Vivienne, who replaced Steve had cancer. Great Story - My sister has been a Def Leppard fan since their first album. So, I bought front row seats as a surprise for her 2 years ago. I went there liking Def Leppard and left the concert loving them. They kicked azz live and totally blew me away.
