It's hard to describe the 2011 experience as a Cardinals fan. It feels so unique but I'd love to hear if there are compatible seasons for other teams. We basically were in the playoffs a month before the regular season ended. The last week of the season felt like a playoff series trying to get in after the slow climb all month. Then we take down the Phillies with a magical pitching performance from Carp. We beat the division rival Brewers. And then that World Series game 6...
Fellow Cardinals fan here. 2011 was just absolute magic. You had to be there. That whole stretch from late August on was such an amazing ride. From dead in the water to WS Champs, with so many great performances and dramatic moments, and to watch David Freese, one of our own, do what he did, validated our childhood dreams and gave us a moment that, as a baseball fan, felt like nothing short of The Singularity itself. Just absolute, blissful magic.
2021 Braves are really a tale of two halfs, pre all star and post all star break. They were a team that was not expected to be as bad as they were the first half of that season. From what I remember, they weren’t too drastically different from the NLCS team of 2020. Injuries plagued them and they did underperform. The trade deadline really made them a completely different team though and I believe they had the best record of anyone in the league from mid-July through the end of the season.
The Rangers definitely had the better team in 2011. The lost because a wild card team got home field advantage because of the stupid All-Star game rules. But the better team doesn't always win. That's what's great (and horrible about basebsll). Anyone that gets in has a chance to win it all.
1987 was not the Twins first World Series championship. It was actually their second. Their first came in 1924 against the New York (now San Francisco) Giants, though at that time, the Twins were based in Washington D.C. as the Washington Senators. So 1987 was their first World Series in Minnesota as the Twins, but not their first overall. Still, crazy that the Twins won the World Series that year considering their record (particularly their road record). Also, fun fact, the 1987 World Series is the only time the bottom of the 9th was never played in a best-of-seven baseball series (I think)
Right up there with White stealing 2B in the 4th. Smith missed the tag, but White got called out anyway, and would have scored on Sheridan's single a few pitches later. Things even out in the end, sometimes.
You forgot to mention the real MVP of the '87 Series. The Indoor Soft-ball stadium called the Metrodome. If you think about it, had the National League had home field advantage in 1987 and 1991. The Twins could very well be looking for their first series championship. 87, it was pretty much 7 blow outs for the home team. St. Louis couldn't hit in that stadium and utilize their speed. And the Twins couldn't get homeruns like they were used to in the then cavernous Busch Stadium II. The '91 Series was alot closer as both teams were really good. But again the home team won every game. The only other thing I'd ad would be. The 2006 Cardinals were pretty pathetic for most of the season, no doubt. But they had a ton of injuries going throughout the year. That team finally got healthy the last two weeks of the season. Plus, it was still the team that won over 100 games the previous two years. So the talent was there in the end. I'll always remember USA today beat-writer, Bob Nightengale. Predicting the Tigers would win in Three. St. Louis was given no chance to win it. Was that egg on his face.
Plus it's hard to call the 2006 Cardinals the 2nd worst team to ever win the WS when you look at the roster. Rolen is in the HOF. Pujols and Molina will get in. I suspect Edmonds will get in under the veterans committee. His career is comparable to Andruw Jones and we see the push to get him in. Wainwright is a fringe guy. Chris Carpenter won't be because of injuries, but when he was on the mound and healthy he was one of the best. We've certainly seen a lot worse rosters than this win it all.
#1 2017 Houston Astros a they had to cheat to win. During the game against peak Yu Darvish the broadcaster said Darvish must be tipping his pitches as the Astros knew every pitch. Well he wasn't tipping his pitches.
The 2011 world series was the most sickening I have ever seen. Twice, TWICE, the Rangers had the Cardinals down to their last strike in Game 6 only to have the damned Cardinals tie the game with the run-scoring hits. To hell with the Cardinals.
If Nelson Cruz had positioned himself & was more focused, he'd catch that ball & we need not have this conversation. But I totally agree with you--that sucked. The 87 Twins won the WS because in the lcs the Tigers were exhausted after winning the division on the last day and then faced the injury riddled cardinals in the fall classic.
So, full disclosure, I am a 4th generation reds fan, but I feel, objectively, the 90 reds don't deserve to be on this list... They were one of the few teams to go wire to wire and swept the defending champs in the series... That is a season that gets talked about as one of the best of all time if it happens in new York lol... ...and I'd say the 60 pirates could probably take the reds spot here... Micky mantle was quoted something to the effect that it was the only time he ever thought the better team lost...
I watched that 1987 Post Season and to this day I still cannot believe Jeff Leonard was the NLCS MVP for the losing San Francisco Giants and the Minnesota Twins, with those Homer Hankies, won the World Series. I am a bit surprised the 1926 St. Louis Cardinals (89-65), 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers (88-68) or 1974 Oakland Athletics (90-72) did not make the list. I would not be surprised that in the near future a sub .500 teams win the World Series due to the current playoff format.
I notice all of the teams on the list are from the last 45 years (as of 2023.) So a little bias by this Commentator and list. What I most don’t like about these UA-cam list is that it’s mostly in the person or persons lifetime. For a list like this especially for the long history of MLB at least make this list going back to what most MLB/Sports Commentators/Analysts and Historians agree as the start of the “modern era” around 1947 aka “integration/post World War 2”
About the Cardinals blowing 26 saves...I'm sure they came back to win at least a few of those games in extras. It would be frustrating to be a 100 win team if it wasn't for those final 3 outs...but you couldn't be in a better position than having to just fix that one part of your game.
1990 Reds DO NOT belong on this list. What you fail to mention was the fact it was their 1st place wire to wire season. The only other team to win WS in a W2W year were the '05 White Sox. Look, Lou Piniella took over the roster that Pete Rose selfishly sabotaged for several years, and won with it in his first season as skipper. The '97 Marlins dont belong on this list either. No, that team was built for that one year as Wayne Huizenga was going to sell that team right after. They had the highest expectations that year than any team. You know who deserves to be on the list? The '03 Marlins, 1918 Red Sox, 1945 Tigers, '59 Dodgers, '01 DBacks & the 2020 Dodgers Mickey Mouse title year should be #1 be the way.

As a cardinals fan, I love being called the “worst World Series winner” it’s not a bad title to have. It’s like calling Trent dilfer the worst qb to ever win a Super Bowl. Also that cardinals team that won in 06 had been the best nl team for over the past 5 years. Even though we were 83-78, the season before we were 105-57 and before that we were 104-58 and nl champs. That team, while not the best in 06, was ready for a title. The record is deceiving. That was not an 83 win team
Weird to see the 1980 Phillies on here, a team with Steve Carlton, Mike Schmidt, and Pete Rose. Tug McGraw was the best reliever in baseball that year and finished 5th in Cy Young voting. Also, the NL wasn't "weak" there was much more parity in the late 70s early 80s. Houston only won 1 more game. 100 game winning teams were rare in the 80s. It wasn't like modern baseball where 1 good team could beat up on 3 weak teams in their division for 50 games a year.
It was absolutely weak. The Yankees and Royals were the class of the Majors that year. As for the Phillies, other than those players, there wasn’t much else like I mentioned. Rose was good, but not as a run producer.

There's a good show called Baseball Seasons. It really gives in depth look on teams each season and the storylines for ball clubs. There were many great teams that didnt make it, but it puts into perspective who mightve been hot at the time. Picking a "worst" team to win it all is a tough one lol. My criteria for this would be a team that was a "1 and done" type, and having a mediocre regular season. For example, the 85 Royals and 80 Phillies were really good teams. They always came up short in the late 70s. Royals always were knocked out by the Yankees, and the Phillies came up short against the Dodgers several times. They finally got theirs years later, with less talent on their squads, compared to their heyday in the late 70s
Lots was expected of the 97 Marlins. They splurged on free agents in the offseason and were expected to be to a nl powehouse. Somewhat disappointed finishing 9 games behind the braves. But they had their number during the reg season. They were very talented a rode that + veteran experience to the title. Not the greatest champ but shouldn't b on this list. Replace them w the 88 dodgers.

Not a bad video but the mispronunciation of names always gets to me. The 90s Reds weren't great but they swept a great Oakland team to win the World Series. And their bullpen (Dibble, not "dribble", Norm Charton and Randy Myers) was dominant.
I thought the 1988 Dodgers would be number 1 on the list. They were a weak team that beat the mighty Mets and the unbeatable Oakland A's. The 2019 Washington Nationals were a big surprise as well. However, I knew the 1987 Twins would make the list.
The 88 Dodgers didn’t have the best offense, but they had a heck of a rotation, and found a way to win 94 games. The 2019 Nats were a really good team that got off to a bad start. While the bullpen wasn’t good, they had a solid offense, great defense, and the best starting rotation in terms of fWAR that year.
Rookie Tim Belcher, injured Tudor & Fernando, plus soft tossing cheating closer Jay Howell doesn't constitute a great staff to me. The offense was embarrassingly weak, esp once Gibson got hurt. 88 dodgers should've been in the top 5.
@@dfcintron: in 1988 Belcher was very good, Tim Leary was very good, Tudor pitched well until his arm fell off, and they had a really good bullpen. Oh, and they had some guy named Orel Hershiser.
It still turns my stomach thinking about the 2006 NLCS Game 7. The Endy Chavez catch being ruined by Aaron Heilman giving up the 2 run shot to Molina. And the bases loaded jam that could've been had Floyd and Beltran swung
Surely you could have looked farther in the past than 1980 in putting together this list. In my opinion, there couldn't ever be a worst World Series champion than the 1919 Cincinnati Reds. Even though they won 96 regular season games, it took them 8 games (in a best of 9 series) to beat a team that had several players who were trying to lose (the infamous Chicago Black Socks). The Reds were held to two runs or less four times in the series. Having said that, your top 10 list proves a point that I have noticed in recent years, which is that many teams advance farther in the post-season in the years in which they squeak into the playoffs. My Braves are a good example. Although posting very many good seasons in the last 30 years, the only two in which they won the World Series were in two of the three playoff seasons with the lowest regular season win totals. After winning it all in 2021, I expected the higher win totals in 2022 and 2023 would mean they would get knocked out early. Turned out I was right both years. By the way, the same can be said for the Cardinals, who in recent years only win the World Series in years they enter the playoffs as a wild card. And do I need to mention this year's World Series matchup between two wild card teams?
Wouldn't it be funny if the only championship ring Acuna will have in the end was the year where he wasn't even able to participate in the WS? Basically the 2021 season. The guy still has time but so did Cal Ripken Jr, though at least he did get to play in the 1983 series. Note that statmuse somehow thinks Acuna didn't get a ring and Google fell for it.

I may be a biased Cardinals fan but the 2004 red sox deserve a mention in my mind. The fact that they swept one of the best regular season teams of all time in embarrassing fashion is what does it. A bad series and a bad result

Lol the 2004 Red Sox? Really?? They won 98 games in the toughest division, they had TWO aces, and they had Manny, Ortiz, Damon, and Varitek in their lineup, all of whom were in their primes. They also had a great bullpen and a great closer that year. They then proceeded to steamroll the Angels, make the only 0-3 comeback of all time against their arch rivals, and then steamroll the 105-win Cardinals.
This isn’t an all time list. This is a list since you’ve been watching. 1945 tigers, 1959 dodgers, 1926 Cardinals, 1964 cardinals, 1916 Red Sox, 1925 senators… many options and all options for this list.

I'm Conflicted on the 2021 Atlanta Braves Season being #7. On One Hand, It's a Season I will NEVER Forget as a Braves' Fan. No Acuna, Ozuna, Soroka, and Many Others, Yet thanks to Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall, Jorge Soler, Ian Anderson, Kyle Wright (Before HE GOT REAL GOOD), Max Fried, Charlie Morton, and the Night Shift, we won our Division at 88-73, Smacked Milwaukee Out of the Division Series, Grinded Our Way through the Championship Series against the Dodgers, then did the Unthinkable and brought down a Juggernaut in the Houston Astros. On the Other, It just felt like... Everything Clicked from August Onward. The Cinderella Story, while Memorable, is one that can be explained. And Ultimately, I can understand how one would say we weren't 'The Worst' World Series Champion, considering we won our division, and our route to the World Series was both our team stepping up as much as it was many things going wrong for our opposition (The Brewers Offense 404'd after Game 1 of the NLDS, Dave Roberts 'Overmanaged' the NLCS, and the Astros Pitching had NO Answer for SOLER POWER!). So YES, I'm both Glad... and Concerned that the 2021 Braves Made the List. I just pray more World Series Championships will end up in Atlanta soon. Appreciate the Content as always Robbie! It's interesting to me that the St Louis Cardinals made the list of the 10 worst World Series Champions 4 times; twice as the winner and twice as the loser. The 2004 Cardinals won 105 games and were part of history as the Red Sox broke their curse by beating the Cardinals in the World Series. The 2005 Cardinals won 100 games and lost in the NLCS to the Houston Astros. The 2006 Cardinals won 83 games and won the World Series. It's easy to say that on paper the 2006 team was the worst of the three, but they were the team that brought the title home so you could also argue that they were the best since they have the World Series rings. The Cardinals appeared in 4 straight NLCS from 2011-2014, won the 2011 World Series, and lost the 2013 World Series. They only won 90 games in 2011 when they won the World Series and won no more than 97 games during the stretch when they lost in 2013. They won 100 games in 2015 but lost in the NLDS, not even reaching the NLCS. Was the 2015 Cardinals team better than the 2011 team? One has a World Series trophy and the other didn't even get there so I would say no. In a single elimination playoff like football, bad teams lose before they win the championship, but in sports where they play series, the best team proves it by winning more than their opponents. They might not have won as many games in the regular season, but they won when it counted. The 1985 Cardinals were robbed on a play against the Royals that cost them a single game. They still had a chance to win the series in the next game, but they blew it. The instant replay system in use today would have changed the call on that play and likely the outcome of that series, but by the rules of the day the Royals won. The Indians (Guardians) were heavily favored to win the World Series in '97 but absolutely out of nowhere, the Marlins came in and pulled off the biggest upset ever in World Series history even surpassing the Mets beating the Orioles in the '69 Series imho. Then soon after, the Marlins conducted a fire sale by selling off their best players to other teams and immediately came back down to earth from there on. The Twins of '87 as far as I know are the only team in MLB history to win a World Series title despite being outscored during the regular season. It goes to show that anything and everything that takes place during the regular season doesn't mean much in the postseason. No disrespect to either ballclub but I guess that's the way the ball bounces, no pun intended.
Sorry Roberto. The 1997 Marlins beating the now former Cleveland Indians was not a “shock the World” upset as say the 1969 Mets, 1988 Dodgers or even the 2006 Cardinals. A mild suprise no doubt. So sorry the ‘97 Marlins as the first wild card to win the Fall Classic are actually better than most or all of the teams on this of the “worst” World Series Winners of the last 40-50 years.

The Dodgers in 59 had one of the best rotations that year with Drysdale, Podres, and a young Koufax, along with some really good bats in Snider, Moon, Hodges, and Neal. The difference with the Giants in 2010 is they had a much better rotation with prime Lincecum, along with Cain, Sanchez, and Zito, along with an excellent bullpen.
To this day, I still don’t know why I said that. My guess is my script was autocorrected to Dribble, and I just read it without noticing. I’m basically Ron Burgundy reading off a teleprompter.
This list sucks. It’s an oxymoron to call any of these teams bad. They are World Champions and no one can take that away from them. I would say that no matter what your win record is, or your pitching staff’s ERA. You eliminate the team from the opposing league, you are the best that year.

The Dodgers had no business being in the same field as those Oakland A’s, but all the same they whooped them. On paper, were the A’s a better team, yes; were they the champions that year, NO!
The real issue was that they were pretty inconsistent that year. You know how streaky they get in the mid-2000s and after 2019? They were like that in 2000 as well and September was pretty brutal.

I have to disagree about the 1997 Marlins. They added so many great veterans in the off-season, so actually, a lot was expected of them. They also finished with the 3rd best record in baseball that season.
Also people forget that the Marlins actually matched up well against the Braves that season. If it weren't for the PED issue, Sheffield would have been in the HOF.

Right up there with White stealing 2B in the 4th. Smith missed the tag, but White got called out anyway, and would have scored on Sheridan's single a few pitches later. Things even out in the end, sometimes.
You forgot to mention the real MVP of the '87 Series. The Indoor Soft-ball stadium called the Metrodome. If you think about it, had the National League had home field advantage in 1987 and 1991. The Twins could very well be looking for their first series championship. 87, it was pretty much 7 blow outs for the home team. St. Louis couldn't hit in that stadium and utilize their speed. And the Twins couldn't get homeruns like they were used to in the then cavernous Busch Stadium II.
The '91 Series was alot closer as both teams were really good. But again the home team won every game.
The only other thing I'd ad would be. The 2006 Cardinals were pretty pathetic for most of the season, no doubt. But they had a ton of injuries going throughout the year. That team finally got healthy the last two weeks of the season. Plus, it was still the team that won over 100 games the previous two years. So the talent was there in the end.
I'll always remember USA today beat-writer, Bob Nightengale. Predicting the Tigers would win in Three. St. Louis was given no chance to win it. Was that egg on his face.
Plus it's hard to call the 2006 Cardinals the 2nd worst team to ever win the WS when you look at the roster. Rolen is in the HOF. Pujols and Molina will get in. I suspect Edmonds will get in under the veterans committee. His career is comparable to Andruw Jones and we see the push to get him in. Wainwright is a fringe guy. Chris Carpenter won't be because of injuries, but when he was on the mound and healthy he was one of the best. We've certainly seen a lot worse rosters than this win it all.

The 87 Twins won the WS because in the lcs the Tigers were exhausted after winning the division on the last day and then faced the injury riddled cardinals in the fall classic.
So, full disclosure, I am a 4th generation reds fan, but I feel, objectively, the 90 reds don't deserve to be on this list... They were one of the few teams to go wire to wire and swept the defending champs in the series... That is a season that gets talked about as one of the best of all time if it happens in new York lol... ...and I'd say the 60 pirates could probably take the reds spot here... Micky mantle was quoted something to the effect that it was the only time he ever thought the better team lost...
I watched that 1987 Post Season and to this day I still cannot believe Jeff Leonard was the NLCS MVP for the losing San Francisco Giants and the Minnesota Twins, with those Homer Hankies, won the World Series. I am a bit surprised the 1926 St. Louis Cardinals (89-65), 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers (88-68) or 1974 Oakland Athletics (90-72) did not make the list. I would not be surprised that in the near future a sub .500 teams win the World Series due to the current playoff format.

I notice all of the teams on the list are from the last 45 years (as of 2023.) So a little bias by this Commentator and list. What I most don’t like about these UA-cam list is that it’s mostly in the person or persons lifetime.
For a list like this especially for the long history of MLB at least make this list going back to what most MLB/Sports Commentators/Analysts and Historians agree as the start of the “modern era” around 1947 aka “integration/post World War 2”
To be fair to two of the teams you listed, they played in a time when the schedule was 154 games.
About the Cardinals blowing 26 saves...I'm sure they came back to win at least a few of those games in extras.
It would be frustrating to be a 100 win team if it wasn't for those final 3 outs...but you couldn't be in a better position than having to just fix that one part of your game.
1990 Reds DO NOT belong on this list. What you fail to mention was the fact it was their 1st place wire to wire season. The only other team to win WS in a W2W year were the '05 White Sox. Look, Lou Piniella took over the roster that Pete Rose selfishly sabotaged for several years, and won with it in his first season as skipper. The '97 Marlins dont belong on this list either. No, that team was built for that one year as Wayne Huizenga was going to sell that team right after. They had the highest expectations that year than any team. You know who deserves to be on the list? The '03 Marlins, 1918 Red Sox, 1945 Tigers, '59 Dodgers, '01 DBacks & the 2020 Dodgers Mickey Mouse title year should be #1 be the way.

As a cardinals fan, I love being called the “worst World Series winner” it’s not a bad title to have. It’s like calling Trent dilfer the worst qb to ever win a Super Bowl. Also that cardinals team that won in 06 had been the best nl team for over the past 5 years. Even though we were 83-78, the season before we were 105-57 and before that we were 104-58 and nl champs. That team, while not the best in 06, was ready for a title. The record is deceiving. That was not an 83 win team

Weird to see the 1980 Phillies on here, a team with Steve Carlton, Mike Schmidt, and Pete Rose. Tug McGraw was the best reliever in baseball that year and finished 5th in Cy Young voting. Also, the NL wasn't "weak" there was much more parity in the late 70s early 80s. Houston only won 1 more game. 100 game winning teams were rare in the 80s. It wasn't like modern baseball where 1 good team could beat up on 3 weak teams in their division for 50 games a year.
It was absolutely weak. The Yankees and Royals were the class of the Majors that year. As for the Phillies, other than those players, there wasn’t much else like I mentioned. Rose was good, but not as a run producer.

There's a good show called Baseball Seasons. It really gives in depth look on teams each season and the storylines for ball clubs. There were many great teams that didnt make it, but it puts into perspective who mightve been hot at the time. Picking a "worst" team to win it all is a tough one lol. My criteria for this would be a team that was a "1 and done" type, and having a mediocre regular season.
For example, the 85 Royals and 80 Phillies were really good teams. They always came up short in the late 70s. Royals always were knocked out by the Yankees, and the Phillies came up short against the Dodgers several times. They finally got theirs years later, with less talent on their squads, compared to their heyday in the late 70s
Lots was expected of the 97 Marlins. They splurged on free agents in the offseason and were expected to be to a nl powehouse. Somewhat disappointed finishing 9 games behind the braves. But they had their number during the reg season. They were very talented a rode that + veteran experience to the title. Not the greatest champ but shouldn't b on this list. Replace them w the 88 dodgers.

Not a bad video but the mispronunciation of names always gets to me. The 90s Reds weren't great but they swept a great Oakland team to win the World Series. And their bullpen (Dibble, not "dribble", Norm Charton and Randy Myers) was dominant.

I thought the 1988 Dodgers would be number 1 on the list. They were a weak team that beat the mighty Mets and the unbeatable Oakland A's. The 2019 Washington Nationals were a big surprise as well. However, I knew the 1987 Twins would make the list.
The 88 Dodgers didn’t have the best offense, but they had a heck of a rotation, and found a way to win 94 games. The 2019 Nats were a really good team that got off to a bad start. While the bullpen wasn’t good, they had a solid offense, great defense, and the best starting rotation in terms of fWAR that year.
Rookie Tim Belcher, injured Tudor & Fernando, plus soft tossing cheating closer Jay Howell doesn't constitute a great staff to me. The offense was embarrassingly weak, esp once Gibson got hurt. 88 dodgers should've been in the top 5.

Surely you could have looked farther in the past than 1980 in putting together this list. In my opinion, there couldn't ever be a worst World Series champion than the 1919 Cincinnati Reds. Even though they won 96 regular season games, it took them 8 games (in a best of 9 series) to beat a team that had several players who were trying to lose (the infamous Chicago Black Socks). The Reds were held to two runs or less four times in the series.
Having said that, your top 10 list proves a point that I have noticed in recent years, which is that many teams advance farther in the post-season in the years in which they squeak into the playoffs. My Braves are a good example. Although posting very many good seasons in the last 30 years, the only two in which they won the World Series were in two of the three playoff seasons with the lowest regular season win totals. After winning it all in 2021, I expected the higher win totals in 2022 and 2023 would mean they would get knocked out early. Turned out I was right both years. By the way, the same can be said for the Cardinals, who in recent years only win the World Series in years they enter the playoffs as a wild card. And do I need to mention this year's World Series matchup between two wild card teams?

Lol the 2004 Red Sox? Really?? They won 98 games in the toughest division, they had TWO aces, and they had Manny, Ortiz, Damon, and Varitek in their lineup, all of whom were in their primes. They also had a great bullpen and a great closer that year. They then proceeded to steamroll the Angels, make the only 0-3 comeback of all time against their arch rivals, and then steamroll the 105-win Cardinals.

I'm Conflicted on the 2021 Atlanta Braves Season being #7.
On One Hand, It's a Season I will NEVER Forget as a Braves' Fan. No Acuna, Ozuna, Soroka, and Many Others, Yet thanks to Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall, Jorge Soler, Ian Anderson, Kyle Wright (Before HE GOT REAL GOOD), Max Fried, Charlie Morton, and the Night Shift, we won our Division at 88-73, Smacked Milwaukee Out of the Division Series, Grinded Our Way through the Championship Series against the Dodgers, then did the Unthinkable and brought down a Juggernaut in the Houston Astros.
On the Other, It just felt like... Everything Clicked from August Onward. The Cinderella Story, while Memorable, is one that can be explained. And Ultimately, I can understand how one would say we weren't 'The Worst' World Series Champion, considering we won our division, and our route to the World Series was both our team stepping up as much as it was many things going wrong for our opposition (The Brewers Offense 404'd after Game 1 of the NLDS, Dave Roberts 'Overmanaged' the NLCS, and the Astros Pitching had NO Answer for SOLER POWER!).
So YES, I'm both Glad... and Concerned that the 2021 Braves Made the List.

It's interesting to me that the St Louis Cardinals made the list of the 10 worst World Series Champions 4 times; twice as the winner and twice as the loser.
The 2004 Cardinals won 105 games and were part of history as the Red Sox broke their curse by beating the Cardinals in the World Series. The 2005 Cardinals won 100 games and lost in the NLCS to the Houston Astros. The 2006 Cardinals won 83 games and won the World Series.
It's easy to say that on paper the 2006 team was the worst of the three, but they were the team that brought the title home so you could also argue that they were the best since they have the World Series rings.
The Cardinals appeared in 4 straight NLCS from 2011-2014, won the 2011 World Series, and lost the 2013 World Series. They only won 90 games in 2011 when they won the World Series and won no more than 97 games during the stretch when they lost in 2013. They won 100 games in 2015 but lost in the NLDS, not even reaching the NLCS.
Was the 2015 Cardinals team better than the 2011 team? One has a World Series trophy and the other didn't even get there so I would say no.
In a single elimination playoff like football, bad teams lose before they win the championship, but in sports where they play series, the best team proves it by winning more than their opponents. They might not have won as many games in the regular season, but they won when it counted.
The 1985 Cardinals were robbed on a play against the Royals that cost them a single game. They still had a chance to win the series in the next game, but they blew it. The instant replay system in use today would have changed the call on that play and likely the outcome of that series, but by the rules of the day the Royals won.

More often than not it isn't the team with the best record that wins the World Series. That's what makes the playoffs so exciting, once you get in, you have a chance to win it all if you get hot at the right time.
There is no "worst" World Series champion becuase they all actually won when every other team in the league would desperately love to trade outcomes with them.

The Indians (Guardians) were heavily favored to win the World Series in '97 but absolutely out of nowhere, the Marlins came in and pulled off the biggest upset ever in World Series history even surpassing the Mets beating the Orioles in the '69 Series imho. Then soon after, the Marlins conducted a fire sale by selling off their best players to other teams and immediately came back down to earth from there on.
The Twins of '87 as far as I know are the only team in MLB history to win a World Series title despite being outscored during the regular season. It goes to show that anything and everything that takes place during the regular season doesn't mean much in the postseason. No disrespect to either ballclub but I guess that's the way the ball bounces, no pun intended.

Also I would say the 2010 Giants are the “worst” out of the Even year magic winning Giant Dynasty.
The Dodgers in 59 had one of the best rotations that year with Drysdale, Podres, and a young Koufax, along with some really good bats in Snider, Moon, Hodges, and Neal.
The difference with the Giants in 2010 is they had a much better rotation with prime Lincecum, along with Cain, Sanchez, and Zito, along with an excellent bullpen.

This list sucks. It’s an oxymoron to call any of these teams bad. They are World Champions and no one can take that away from them. I would say that no matter what your win record is, or your pitching staff’s ERA. You eliminate the team from the opposing league, you are the best that year.

Seriously? C'mon, man. At least these teams all played the full season, with regular rosters, and playoff scenarios. The worst WS "championship" has to be the Dodgers and the 2020 Fishbowl/Patchwork/Greed season. Does anyone really think that is a legitimate title on par with the others in history? No. I would like to see the howling and gnashing of teeth about illegitimacy if the Marlins had won their third championship in less than 25 years. But it was the Dodgers, so it's a wink-and-a-nod BS title. Although the 1990 Braves have to be the overall top pick over a single decade of disappointment - one WS title to show for that regular season dominance. -the Dodgers are overall losers. Spending $2 billion in the Roberts era alone and one questionable title in 35 years. LOL.

I have to disagree about the 1997 Marlins. They added so many great veterans in the off-season, so actually, a lot was expected of them. They also finished with the 3rd best record in baseball that season.
Also people forget that the Marlins actually matched up well against the Braves that season. If it weren't for the PED issue, Sheffield would have been in the HOF.
